Another tip for learning to jump (while rolling): even if you are trying to jump over something (a line/cone/etc), do not try to jump FORWARDS, just go UP! your rolling momentum will continue and you will travel forwards! However, if you try to jump forwards as you might while not skating, especially when you are beginning, you are likely to overbalance and fall! If you need to go further, you either need to jump higher/lift your legs more (increase your time in the air) or skate faster (increase your forward speed before you jump). This is, admittedly, coming from a derby skater, not an artistic skater, but one who has learnt the hard way (and artistic skaters don't tend to wear the thick kneepads we do!) Also, if you feel unsteady, bend! Soften that landing and bend your knees! Don't land stiff or you'll unbalance!
Great advice. My coach always told me think of going up not round. The higher you go the more time you have in the air to execute the skill. Brilliant. Thank you x
Well, Derby Rolling and Artistic Rolling are two different things. I like Skaties style and format of skating. I was able to learn more tricks, gain more fluidity and gain more confidence in my overall technique. She talks in a way that isn't making anyone feel "small" but rather in a way that boosts confidence, self-esteem and makes you feel like you're learning. I am going to be sticking to Skaties style instead.
Im so happy i found out about artistic roller skating. I wanted to learn figure skating, but i cant afford to go to an ice rink, and i dont wven know of any ice rinks near me. I plan on getting roller skates next month or the month after! Cant wait!!
These are great videos!! Thank you so much for doing these. I understand how time consuming making these videos can be. I run West Lothian Artistic Roller Skating Club in Scotland. We don't have easy access to fars coaches or judges so this is a great point of reference. I'll be sharing this with the club for sure!!!👏👏👏🥳
Thank you. These are so snuggly. They’re ice skating tights so they’re fleece inside. I got these on eBay. Search up ice skating practice wear and you should find them.
I have been looking for a skating “order of operations” type video or curriculum for the longest time. This made me so happy. Because as someone who’s past the very beginner stage but not quite at the intermediate yet, I felt I was stuck and not making progress. This gives me direction and a good set of skills to master before I start trying tricks. 🥹🫶🏼 Thank you Skatie!! I’m so excited to get out and practice! It’s also worth mentioning that I probably would not have been able to translate all of the directions on the form, so im super grateful for the visuals 😅💕🎉
I really love your videos and appreciate them so much, wish more people could've seen your videos and work for people who want to learn roller skating!!!
This is getting shown to my daughter as skating homework ❤ Ill do them with her though... She has had her skates since earily Aug and trompimg on the carpet is still her idea of skateing and i try to get her to stop thinking their just shoes with wheels as lifts and get her head around useing the wheels too... Some structure could be good for her as im just not that good at teaching her to do stuff like this as i may need the stucture aswell to keep things simple as i was already doing really well at her age and i had no one to teach me. I just knew that skateing was all about rolling on them way younger than she is now from the get go and was street skating at 4. i think she thinks they are high heels at the age of 7.
@@Skatie okay, now they show up in my recommended videos! Thanks for sharing. I am working on the level 2 and 3, since I'm still new at this, but I am excited to see what I am working towards!
This is a great guide for me who doesn't have access to artistic roller skating physical courses! Thanks @Skatie
Have lots of fun x

This is really good for me. Now I know what I need to be working on and can see progress happening. So I know I’ve got the basics down.
That’s a great way to use the skills. Have lots of fun. 🛼🛼⭐️⭐️💕💕

Wow this is great video feel like I should be paying for this type of information. Thank you So much ❤
Thank you so much xx
Thank you teacher

Awesome! 👏
I'm still grade 3, haven't practiced much lately and not that brave to jump just yet... hehehe
Gotta keep improving ✨🛼
Thanks, dear Katie 🤗
It does feel like grade three is quite increased in difficulty from 1 and 2.
Love this!! Could you please make something like this for small place as well? We don't have many skate rinks in Japan 😭
I have a small space video. Getting rink time can be so difficult. th-cam.com/video/9_WCm_VvLY0/w-d-xo.html
This is amazingly helpful. Thanks!

Skatie you are a great teacher, thank you for making these videos! May I please ask about the pants you are wearing? I want those pants

So glad this is helping. Honestly it takes me a few minutes sometimes to work out what they mean in those basic skills descriptions! 🤔 😜

Thank you so much. We have so much fun filming the videos each week and all the lovely comments make it worthwhile. 💕💕💕⭐️⭐️
This was absolutely fabulous! I can't wait to practice in the rink instead of outside for a change. Thanks a bunch.
Have fun 💕💕
Lovely. Enjoyed this. If you could do a video per grade like you mentioned that'd be sweet.
I’ve added a playlist to my channel called grades 1-3 and that has more detailed videos on each skill to help break it down more.
This is such a great guide and you are the best teacher! Thanks, Katie 💕
Thank you for your kind words xx
Thank you ❤️🕊
💕💕⭐️⭐️
Would it be hard to do these in a smaller space? I dont have a room as big as the one in your video.
I love your videos by the way!!
A lot of this can definitely be done in a smaller area. I have a few videos on things to practice in smaller spaces too.
I LOVE YOU SKATIE ❤😄 thank you for your videos
Thank you so much 💕💕
Can see progress

This is amazing! Thank you!

The structure should really help. Have you gone to a rink together. A big motivator for children can be seeing their peers doing it!
Have you or could you do Grades 4-6? That would be awesome to see

what is the model of that skates? I am looking for skates for artistic / figure skating
They’re Roll-like dance plate and Risport dance boots. They’re a fabulous setup and really comfy
@@Skatie do you reccomend some cheaper substitutes? :D and maybe something avaliable in Europe?
could you do a video on cleaning suede roller skates
That’s a good idea xx
I find it hard to keep my knee straight as i T-push. I end up going to the side unintentionally. Its really upsetting.
Are you trucks adjusted? They may be a little too loose if you’re having trouble controlling the edge.
Hi Katie! what cushions do you recommend for a beginner/intermediate (Grade 3) quad skater weighting 55 kg/ 8.6 st? thanks ...
I’d look at a medium hardness. You may want to go softer as you develop your skills but a middle hardness is a good place to start
Is there a FARS 0 or -1 for me?
You’ve got this. Take your time x ⭐️⭐️💕🛼
Where did you get the grade level to roller skates
They’re from the federation of artistic roller skating.
I'm sorry Skatie, but those skate leggings are so aesthetic and elegant! What are they called?
Thank you. These are ice skating practice leggings, so they’re really thick and cosy too.
My sto is on the wall 😂😂😂😂😅
😂 💥
I’m grade 3
Nice. Grade 3 gets harder with the edges but it’s great once you master them.
if anyone interested, i have a original official pdf with all grades.

this whole time i thought i was learning 1st grade artistic roller skating..
3 for the price of 1! 😂. Hope you had fun working through the video ⭐️⭐️💕🛼
Perfect! Bring on grades 4,5 and 6…I’m ready coach! I 🛼❤️⛸️
The videos are all there, ready when you are xx
