Hey! Great presentation for 'the visual learner' as you write on your blog! Many thanks for sharing, I'm looking to build one of these for next spring. Much love from Stockholm, Sweden.
Thanks, mom! Moms are so great. I have seen about two-dozen videos of people doing this, and I would say your advice is spot-on. I would also think the thermometer is an important part. Hoop houses can get too hot as well as too cool, and most people I know are mindful of feeling cold, then get a jacket, but people often get too hot before they notice. Ready to see the next one.
I'm in zone 6A (catskill region) this is awesome to see! Been dying to figure out a way to keep growing greens in winter. I love how it's doable in a weekend, and it's awesome to find someone who does this on youtube in my grow zone!
Seems like the substrate would also be useful if the fall is too hot. Adding some shade cloth might help to cool down the soil and wrapping the bottom foot with material may dissuade rabbits and deer.
Truly love your content and garden is extremely neat! Thank you for such fine work! Can you provide a link for your freestanding black trellis as well as the solar lights?
So glad to hear it! I think these are the arches you mean? @ ok cool I watched the video an got a full explanation, my next question is if your using 16 foot pieces how tall is when you bend them over for a 6 foot wide, how much head space is what I’m asking
Would you be able to share the link to your greenhouse plastic source? I have a couple of single cattle panel trellises that I'd like to turn into a hoop house for the winter.
Thanks! Here's the link for the planters: click.linksynergy.com/deeplink?id=aqDOGVpT1gI&mid=982&murl=www.gardeners.com/buy/elevated-cedar-planter-box-2x8/8608960.html and here's the link for the arch trellises: click.linksynergy.com/deeplink?id=aqDOGVpT1gI&mid=982&murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gardeners.com%2Fbuy%2Farch-trellis-for-2-foot-x-4-foot-planter-box%2F8612976.html
Your set up looks like it's very open, but for anyone watching who isn't in a field like area.....you gotta be aware of your winter sun! I spent two years mapping the sun light and sun times in every section of my yard so I know what area gets what direct sunlight and how much. That includes noting what trees cast the main shade etc.... it really helps when you're trying to work with specific plants and their needs. Especially in the winter when the sun is lower in the sky. I have maps for every season to make my life easier when planting or moving things around. Have graph paper. Have your growing areas as close to scale as you can manage. Do recordings for sun rise and then on a set schedule every two or three hours do the next recording. I'm insane, so I did a new recording every hour. I have trees on my boundary that cast different shade, so I wanted to make sure I knew where my sunlight was ll day to sunset. Spring, summer, autumn, and late winter. I keep track of light shade and full shade too.
I came from TikTok because my friend sent me your video, and GIRL LEMME TELL YOU… Im very Pleased that I came here. I also live in New England and always wanted to know If I can grow plants in the winter. I never grew plants so I’m pretty excited about this. Next year is going to be an amazing start. Also I wanted to know what camera are you using? I actually want to record when im going to start.
Glad to hear it! I film on a canon r5 but that’s way more of a beast of a camera than most people need I had it from my wedding photography business. iPhone is honestly just fine for getting started since it shoots in 4k!
the compost shouldn't cost anthing near $114. I can buy 2 cubic foot bags for $3 which would take about 5 of those to go 2" deep for 2x 30" beds 12 feet long, so $15.00. Could get 1.5 cubic yards for about 35 if can haul it.
You’re right, it’s crazy high. I confess I’m a compost snob and since I wanted to hedge my bets I opted for the most pricey stuff because I trust it the most!

Couldn’t have done it without her!
I'm grateful that you pointed out that there is an inside and outside of the panel. I wouldn't of noticed that.😊
It can be easy to miss, glad you caught it!
You make the transitions and camera movement look easy! Great tip.

Oh perfect!! Glad it was helpful. And yes so challenging finding others in your zone who you can look to!
Zone 5B, possibly moving towards a 6A, mid Hudson Valley region NY. 😊 So much fun to see fellow garden enthusiasts growing in such similar conditions.
Have to do a part two on adding the plastic once it cools off! If I added it now all my seedlings would fry 😅
Seems like the substrate would also be useful if the fall is too hot. Adding some shade cloth might help to cool down the soil and wrapping the bottom foot with material may dissuade rabbits and deer.
Yes please!! And how you'll close the ends.
Love it! Im waiting for the snow to melt so I can put up my 10x12 gable roof greenhouse. Been planning and cutting all winter. 💚
I’m so glad I came across your TikTok. I have been wanting to start a garden but thought I was too late in the season. Thank you!
Perfect! Glad I could help.
Great job on the video
Glad you enjoyed it

I thank you very much! I clicked on the last link for the solar lights but I was unable to find it there.
Easy and fast! Great idea.
Glad you liked it!
A helpful tip is using ratchet straps to bend the panels!
Oh nice wouldn’t have thought of that! Thanks!
So what about like barbs an stuff on the cattle wire won’t it rip the plastic how are you applying it wi rn out rolling
That's why I flipped the panels over, so the sharper edges faced down and can't scrape on the plastic

Link to tarp clips ??

Sorry I don’t have a link up yet! Check out Bootstrap Farmer
Great instructions. Thank you! I like the planters and archway behind you. Where did you get those?

Yes sunlight is key, we do dive into this further in other videos 👍

Do you plan on using the hoop house as the place to germinate your spring veg plantings?
Oh yes for sure 🙌
Have you posted part 2? Also, how are you closing the ends? TY in advance. this is terrific cannot wait to build ours.
Not yet! I can't put the plastic on until mid-oct. The ends will be plastic as well, I'll go over all that in pt 2 :)
How tall is it?
About seven feet
I buy my cattle panel at Tractor Supply for half the cost per panel listed here ($26) at Tractor Supply. Two panels = $52. Just an fyi.
It totally depends on where you live. I’ve heard huge price ranges
