Been using cattle panel trellis for 5 years. Love'em. Mine are not as thought out as yours, well done👍👍. I like puttin our maters, cucumbers and beans on them in summer. They also see sugar peas twice a year . I simply made 3/8 re bar candy canes for ground staking. This way I can move them easy. 100 ft run, dang it somebody's gonna be in the kitchen 😂. Ya'll gonna be proud of that. VERY nice.
That was the best trellis bed video I have ever seen, and it is not just because you are lovely to look at. I have one that I did myself and it is wobbly and uneven. Now I know how I can fix it.
@@SalmonCreekLiving I agree, quite a few folks build it and you can tear down how it will break. I am doing 20 raised beds and going to cattle panels between the beds. Keep my veggies growing up, nw Oklahoma has wind, last year I did 3 panels and grew my cucumbers, tomatoes and squash up but squash bugs killed everything off early so doing grow beds with 2 sided tape on the outsides so the bugs get stuck??
Fantastic work on the trellis! It’s great to see such a practical and innovative approach to growing winter squash. The 96-foot design not only saves space but seems like it will make harvesting a breeze compared to navigating a ground-level vine jungle. We’ve been looking for ways to optimize our garden setup and seeing your trellis in action is truly inspiring! Thanks for the detailed breakdown and the helpful links-definitely considering this for our next garden upgrade. Keep up the great work; I'm looking forward to seeing your harvest results!

Yes, snakes can hide under there. I live in NY, so we don't have poisonous snakes, but I hate every one. I've been known to go shoot them when they are sunning themselves on the manure pile, and once, I had a pitchfork in my hand spreading mulch out in the garden when one slithered out, and I shot the pitchfork at it and one tine actually speared it. Lucky shot!! I plan on trellising much more this year. I'm always dragging cattle panels around for various uses. You do an excellent job filming and those are the sturdiest panels I've ever seen. I'm always just 'sewing' them together with balin' twine. LOL!
You are lucky to not have poisonous snakes. We have cotton mouths, copperheads and rattle snakes to worry about!!! As for the pitchfork shot, that sounds like all skills to me!! Haha. We plan to dive deeper into trellising this year also. It is just so much more organized in my opinion. And of course I appreciate the compliment on the filming. We really do try our best to get good shots of what we are working on!
@@SalmonCreekLiving My mother was from Alabama (only 10 miles from where Jim Neighbors grew up, LOL!) and had snake stories. Even on the border of NY/PA, there are mountain rattlers, so I've been told, and my farrier grew up near Philly, about a mile from the Susquehanna, and said there were copperheads down in the rocks on the river bank. I'm just above the PA border - and hope they don't move north in 'global warming'.... Take care!

@@njkay0033 that probably depends on where you live. There are no laws about killing snakes in my area. Fall under vermin like rats, mice, gophers, etc. I agree with you though that snakes are generally beneficial to have.
That is a great design. I hadn't thought of using both sides like that. I think most people put the posts on the inside if they are planning on covering it with plastic at any time. But if you don't need to, this is the best looking tunnel I have seen yet!
I definitely like this design for maximum strength. If I ever cover it in plastic then I would most likely wrap the T-post in foam pipe insulation first so they would not tear the plastic

I am looking to add 4 trellises this year and maybe another 4 next year mainly to grow different kinds of gourds, cucumbers and Malabar Spinach.
Thank you! We plan to post updates on all of the projects we have going on. We have built several trellises this year and plan to build another 1 or 2!
Watching your video reminds me of watching one of my videos. My daughter is also almost always playing in the background. Excellent build and instructions. Hard to replace the treated wood when you might need a loan to do it in cedar. New Sub!
Thank You! She sure knows how to make the best of the little things in life. I try to learn from her. And no kidding about the cedar. I would love to use it but its out of the budget!!
This cattle panel trellis build was an awesome job done. Thanks for sharing this video of the build as I have never seen one built before until today. Interesting how you go from a horizontal grow, to vertical grow in under 12 minutes, lol.
@@SalmonCreekLiving I also think this is way better than people using PT lumber and using cattle caging for a trellis as chemicals from the PT can leak from the lumber into the plants that are being grown.
LOVE the long tunnel! I've had 13 panels for a long time. This year, I'm making a LONG tunnel like this. I've already moved them. One thing I have learned over the past 8 years growing this way, is that the beds where I put the panel base in the MIDDLE of the beds perform great. Not on the edge of the bed. I plant the vines to grow inside to outside, and it shades products like lettuce inside, and on the outside for full sun, peppers. Some panels, I experimented doing a M or double hoop where they meet in the middle, those are the best. I have plans to do 4 long tunnels where they meet like a M eventually. It might take awhile to get that many panels. The other thing I always wondered was should I align them East to West or North to South. East to West works good for me. Good Instructions, thank you.
You definitely sound like you know your way around trellis growing!! We plan to try some lettuce under this trellis. Maybe something a little more heat tolerant like romaine. My trellis openings face north and south. This is just because of the way our entire garden is laid out. However, if I had it facing east to west, it would seem to me that my north side would not receive much sun. Either way good luck with your new tunnel!
@@SalmonCreekLiving I was concerned about the N side too. However, I’ve had equal harvest off both sides. I think the vining plants really cover the centers well and it just doesn’t seem to matter. I’ve grown small melons, squash, beans, cherry tomatoes and cucumbers all successfully.
Outstanding. A master at the age of 30 just like me...30+ years ago. Consider adding a galvanized ridge pipe and 2 sides right where your cable ties in. Use tee junctions every 10' to run a strut from the ridge to each side, completing that uncrushable triangle. Then come to my house in Louisiana and build me one, because you love me..heck, you are me.
Well I guess that is a compliment! I would come build it for you but since I am you....I'm already there!!! Haha Thanks for the tips and for watching also.
Thanks! Glad to have you on the channel. Painting them would have been a good idea. I plan to build a twin to this one in the winter. I may try that this time!!
Thank you for the tips this looks like something my husband and I could do. We live in Australia so things are slightly different here. Can I possibly as what gauge the cattle wire panels are that you have used please.
Great looking build! Me being a Texan! I thought I had an accent! And yeah I know I'm the one with the accent you don't have one! Lol I'm going to subscribe to your channel young man! And yeah I'm older than dirt, so you're a young man! Keep up the fine work, and y'all stay safe!
Thank You! Yeah I definitely have an accent. I have got use to being different over the years. There is nothing at all wrong with being older. As long as we are getting older then we are still living!! Thanks again
Excellent job, best build I have seen in a long time. What are your thoughts of making a greenhouse on maybe a quarter of the tunnel. For people in the north, it would allow plants to get started early because of the short growing season.
Thank You! We are putting a lot of thought into making it a greenhouse for the winter. If I do it will most likely be used to extend the fall season on some broccoli and brussels sprouts. Our winters are fairly mild here in zone 8.
Great instructional video! Looks like the best set up for a cattle panel trellis I've seen on youtube. Keep coming with these great videos. I am currently looking for farmland in the South and so I'm curious to know what state you're in? Thanks, Eric, currently in Houston
Thank You! There will be plenty of shade under the trellis but since all the vegetation will be on top the winter squash will get all the photosynthesis they could want
Wow great instructional video. What size are the panels? I’ve seen some with varying sizes between the lines and also rectangles or squares. Does that matter?
Thank you! The way I built mine, it would not matter if the panels had square or rectangle holes. These panels actually had some of both and measure 50 inches by 16 feet
Def not Forrest Gump. Tom hanks did an an awful fake Alabama accent and the whole thing anti-southern, and shot in California with stock footage from here.
Love the video, catching up on your library. Curious about one thing. What state is Salmon Creek in? It's just I'm picking up like 12 accents and I want a reference. The internet is giving me Washington and California and that doesn't track with the accents. I would expect Alabama or Mississippi. There is some creole mixed in there.
I hear a little Carolina Brogue. Are you from the outer banks or Cumberland county? Great looking trellis setup. This helped me make up my mind on my setup. Thanks!
I did this myself with grapes. Here is the downfalls of iit from my experience One side may get shaded more than other. The top was hard to harvest and was slow and challenging. Hard to wrap if attacked by wasps as I don’t use poison. And lastly it’s spendy. I took it down and now working on vertical walls to give garden dimension and a maze feel with the new food forest in the desert lol
It will definitely be a learning experience. I plan to only grow winter squash on it. I think with mine facing North to South the plants will get an even amount of light. They may not get full sun because one side will get more sun in the a.m. and less in the p.m. And of course vice versa
Quantum, Your tunnel doesn't necessarily have to be tall & out of reach. If you make your tunnel wider, the top is automatically lowered. I didn't want to have to grab a stool/ladder to harvest, so the tunnel is high as my arm can reach when I lift it straight up. No strain!!
I like how you put your build together. My one comment would be to replace pressure treated wood with Neem Oil painted wood. Pressure treated wood contains cyanide which will leach into your soil over time and then be absorbed by your plants that you are growing.
No doubt treated lumber always brings up controversy. At the end of the day I think we should always use what works best for our own situation. We grow to become as self sufficient as possible. Personally I am much much more concerned about the herbicides and insecticides that are sprayed directly on the foods we consume. If you can stay away from those then you are way ahead of the game from a health standpoint. But if you are have the extra time to use the Neem oil, then that sounds great to me!! Thanks for the comment.
@@SalmonCreekLiving You speak the truth. I have been gardening a long time and do so organically. I use intercrop techniques that includes permaculture. We now grow the majority of our fruits and vegetables at home. Then, use canning, dehydrating, and freeze drying to keep foods up to a year. We save a lot of money over the year just by gardening.
Absolutely! We may do that to this one. I would recommend putting the raised bed boards on the outside of the T post. I put my "level" boards on the inside of the T post so I am going to need to add something on the outside to secure the greenhouse plastic to.

Then come to my house in Louisiana and build me one, because you love me..heck, you are me.
Well I guess that is a compliment! I would come build it for you but since I am you....I'm already there!!! Haha Thanks for the tips and for watching also.
Your reply was 😂😂😂!
great trellis i like the clamps
Your detail and explanations are very good. Thank you/
Thank You!
Ah, a man that does it right. Sub'd. :) Only thing I would do different is paint the t-posts black so they don't stand out.
Thanks! Glad to have you on the channel. Painting them would have been a good idea. I plan to build a twin to this one in the winter. I may try that this time!!
I’m subscribed and sharing ya dude. I took so much away from one video. Thank you.
Thank you! We greatly appreciate you sharing. Glad the video helped
Fantastic Job. Thank you for the great video.
Thank You! Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for the tips this looks like something my husband and I could do.
Dreamy ❤
Great instructional video! Looks like the best set up for a cattle panel trellis I've seen on youtube. Keep coming with these great videos. I am currently looking for farmland in the South and so I'm curious to know what state you're in?
Thanks,
Eric, currently in Houston
Thank You! I'm going to make videos as long as fine people like yourself keep watching! I'm in Eastern NC. Good luck with your land hunting
Great work great 👍 ! How do you get no “grass or weed” growth around your garden area?
Great video, very well thought out. Your instructions are simple, and easy to follow. Where did you get your stainless zip ties, and tensioning tool?
The links should be in the description for easy finding. But they were purchased from Amazon
This is great and so simple. Thank you! Will it shade itself too much I wonder?
Thank You! There will be plenty of shade under the trellis but since all the vegetation will be on top the winter squash will get all the photosynthesis they could want
Yesssss !
Epic trellis run 🎉😂
Thank You!
You can cover it during the cold days as well... Especially if you want to start early...
Great tutorial! Thanks for sharing this! 💯
Thank You! My pleasure
Nice job, I got some good ideas from you. Just subscribed.
Awesome. Thanks!
realy like to see how it performe over the years
Beautiful job.
Thank You!
Hi I like your design. I want to know the hole size of the fence trellis
Trellis vid was awesome, but you should make an arm workout video as well lol.
Thanks! HAHA Consistency is key to all things working out.
Merci from Montreal Canada
You're welcome! From NC USA
I did this with muscadines and they growing faster than ever and sjready halfway up
Excellent video! I’m sorry to say though, watching this video I can’t stop hearing Forest Gump, but in all fairness I’m a die hard Gump fan! 😂
Haha I have heard many things about my accent over the years, but never Forest Gump!!
Def not Forrest Gump. Tom hanks did an an awful fake Alabama accent and the whole thing anti-southern, and shot in California with stock footage from here.
Where did you get your grid clamps from, and how much were they?
I would very much like to get some for a cattle panel quail run I intend to build.
I can’t remember the exact price but not very expensive
I want to hire you to come build one like this for me in Aberdeen NC
Nicely done.....thx
Love the video, catching up on your library. Curious about one thing. What state is Salmon Creek in? It's just I'm picking up like 12 accents and I want a reference. The internet is giving me Washington and California and that doesn't track with the accents. I would expect Alabama or Mississippi. There is some creole mixed in there.
The accent is really a secret southern blend! Haha I am from NC.
@@SalmonCreekLiving Lol, Nice. I would never have guessed it.
I hear a little Carolina Brogue. Are you from the outer banks or Cumberland county? Great looking trellis setup. This helped me make up my mind on my setup. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed the video. I'm not actually on the Outer Banks but I am from Eastern NC!
@@SalmonCreekLiving heck yeah! Same here.
How much does a section of cattle fence cost nowadays? $300? ,$400?
What did that whole setup cost?
I really didn't keep up with the entire cost. I know I paid $22.99 for each fence panel and I believe $5.29 per T post
That’s beautiful. What’s the size of the cattle panels?
Thank You! The panels are 50 inches tall and 16 feet wide
Quantum,
Your tunnel doesn't necessarily have to be tall & out of reach. If you make your tunnel wider, the top is automatically lowered. I didn't want to have to grab a stool/ladder to harvest, so the tunnel is high as my arm can reach when I lift it straight up. No strain!!
I didn’t hear you talk about the boards. Are they treated?
I think I mentioned it but if I did not 2"x8"x16' treated boards were used for the beds
We save a lot of money over the year just by gardening.
hi where i can buy the panel ? Ty
Could this be made into a high tunnel?
Absolutely! We may do that to this one. I would recommend putting the raised bed boards on the outside of the T post. I put my "level" boards on the inside of the T post so I am going to need to add something on the outside to secure the greenhouse plastic to.
How long and wide were the cattle panels?
The panels are 16 feet long and 50 inches wide
@@SalmonCreekLiving thank you. I thought they would have bern longer to span the seven feet with enough height to walk under them
Yeah, I know what you mean. It worked out great. I love the 7-foot width and there is plenty of head clearance.
Hello Sir,
My name is Marius from Romania/Europe and please tell me what size have you for one Panel Trellis (one arcade) length x width ???
I want to calculate for my size for one Panel Trellis because I need a height for arcade of 2300 mm!!!
Thank you very much for your help !!!
One panel is 50 inches x 16 feet or 1270mm x 4876mm. My entire trellis is 7 feet wide x 96 feet long. Hope this helps!
@@SalmonCreekLiving thank you very much, its ok!!!
Have a nice day!!!
