For those that need numbers, the strips are 2" wide and approximately 33-3/4 long (that just happened to be the length of plywood I had on hand). This will fit 19 clamps total, but of course you can make it as long or as short as you need. The holes are 1-1/2" diameter. Measure one inch from the end, and then 1-3/4" thereafter for the spacing. Hope that helps! EDIT: Also, here's an update video for those that need verbal explanation - th-cam.com/video/AGeJTyT_9qk/w-d-xo.html
Jody, I’ve been watching you for a long time and haven’t seen you do a video like this. Big departure from your typically instructional videos. It was good though. Simple and let the video explain itself. Thanks for sticking with it! I like it when your stuff comes up in my feed. I’m happy to watch your growth lately. I hope it brings you prosperity. -Nate
I watch a lot of youtube woodworkers and I didn't really need another subscription, but your "Lefty Pride" shirt sold it! Nice project. I look forward to more content.
It's so refreshing to hear someone say you probably haven't seen this before and not "you have never seen this before " That is a great idea and no I haven't seen it before
I work in my 10x12 shed that has to share space with my garden tools. I built one of these and screwed it into the inside of my shed door with room for at least one more. Awesome idea.
I like the silent treatment. And the clamp rig is cool too. Reminded me of the scene from The Wire where the only dialogue was the use of one particular word over and over.
I just finished organizing my clamps horizontally and now I have to start ALL OVER AGAIN! Thanks a lot. Seriously though, my wife will be happy that she doesn't have to worry about a clamp falling on her head while she's getting something out of the deep freeze. Have a perfect place of wasted space for this.
Great idea! After reading all of the comments, I was surprised to see how many people had the same question, and it got me thinking. There are a couple of ways this could improved upon: 1) put a pivot at the bottom and a latch at the top with a chain to prevent the whole thing from leaning out too far. This would allow the whole assembly to be leaned away from the wall, separating the clamps for easier installation & removal. 2) Bolt the whole thing to a tapered board that’s wider at the top. Same effect as #1 but always leaned forward and requiring slightly more space. 3) reverse where the pivot is so that you can pick the bottom up and out for easier access to the individual clamps. This would probably be more prone to jamming up as each clamps tries to lay flat when the assembly drops back to vertical, though. No talking: JSK Koubou has done alright for himself using this approach, and I’m a big fan of his channel…
While I had trouble keeping up with your running commentary (LOL), That's one COOL IDEA! Thanks for sharing that one! Everyone can profit from this one.............
Great idea! I've been doing something similar for a few years. Not nearly as nice, and not quite as many clamps on hand to store. Ha ha ha! Great video as usual, different but maybe every once in a while it's nice for you and us to have a "quiet" moment??? Either way, thank you sir!
Great innovation. For the record I like when you verbally walk us through the thought ptrcess and the build. I am not complaining just letting you know my thoughts. I always learn something new from your content. I will watch everything you publish. Thanks.
Gotta ask -- it looks like each of the clamps is resting on the clamp below. Does this cause a "tangle" when trying to pull a clamp out or do they come pretty easily?
This was the first question I had as well. Could be that a different viewing angle would reveal that it's not an issue. Or that maybe it is an issue, but could still be efficient storage for your lesser used clamps.
Looks like a good space saving idea if you have several F-clamps, you group your clamps by size and hang multiples (4-5?) of each size In consecutive holes so when a size is needed you pull the top one from the size group. What I don't understand (can't see it) is if the bars from clamps in higher holes interfere when removing those in the lower holes.
Yeah, that's what I'm getting at. It seems like when you would pull a clamp out, there is a clamp making contact above it and/or below it, meaning that every time you pull clamps it's potentially a two-handed job (or you might pull multiple clamps) I imagine this would be pretty easy to overcome with a little knob next to and under each hole that keeps them separate. Either that, or have the hole strip extend outward from the wall at one end so the clamps can hang down freely with a footprint that's still pretty small. But yeah, either way this is all speculation. Either it's an issue and he'll resolve it, or it's not, but either way this is a clever way to save on space.
Hey! I just uploaded a new video addressing the questions and concerns people had in this video. If you want to watch: th-cam.com/video/AGeJTyT_9qk/w-d-xo.html
I have all my f-style clamps hanging on two large L-brackets. I have so many now that there isn't any room for the smaller ones and I don't really have room to add another L-bracket. This idea could be just the arrangement I need. It's got me thinking about making a bracket that would allow two of these to hang from. As far as my L-brackets stick out from the wall, and the spacing between them that I have available, I could make 4 of your storage strips and easily double my storage capacity without taking up any extra space.
Clever AF That's useful stuff I miss in YT videos I love stuff that makes me think about things in a new way. Especially when it comes to clamp storage :)
Boy, If I had that many clamps, it would be the best way to store them and take almost no room at all. I'm going to subscribe to the channel and see what you have.
Hey! I just uploaded a new video addressing the questions and concerns people had in this video. If you want to watch: th-cam.com/video/AGeJTyT_9qk/w-d-xo.html
I literally have 8 clamps. 5 of them are stored on the shop vac / dust stopper cart rim. Others 3 just on a shelf somewhere. Lol. I try to use the lease number clamps possible for any project.
Great idea! Your videos are always intelligent and original. I miss your commentary though! I think you always do a great job discussing your builds or techniques. Anyway, hope you are doing well!
They say that you can't have too many clamps. You also can't have too many ideas on how to store them! :-) However, I am not fond of unnarrated videos. As a rule, as soon as I realize that a video is in that style, I turn it off and move on. I stuck it out on this one just because it was from you. Your narration and commentary are generally so wonderful, please don't stop doing them.
Not sure where you live, Troy, but Jody used Baltic birch for this project. Big box stores don’t stock it. Places such as Rockler and Woodcraft usually carry it-when it’s available. The war that Russia started has pretty much shut down the importation of BB for now. It’s very expensive if you can find it.
I was really disappointed not to see a different camera angle at the end. It's not really clear how they're all hanging together from the side. Also, do you need to hang all the clamps of the same length in sequence? Then switch to another length? Have to say, I've never been a fan of silent videos, and your commentaries are so good, it's a step backwards for me to have you go silent. I've loved so many of your previous videos.

not sure I like the "look" of it and how they will stick out a bit but given where you put them next to the cabinet I can see how this will be useful and space saving. Interesting not having you talk, I like it but still prefer the verbal comm instead. Cool though.

Brilliant! That's the tiniest amount of space holding all those clamps imaginable! Such a simple and elegant design, it's an instant forehead-slapper.
Cool idea, do you have plans for a right handed version 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
@Bowers Custom Woodworking, LLC Okay, listen here, you... 😂
In metric? 😮
A wonderfully creative use of otherwise dead space. Definitely the sort of thing my tiny shop could make use of.
Nice. I also enjoyed the quiet video and just watching it unfold without narrative.
As someone with INCREDIBLY little space in my workshop, this might be exactly what I’m looking for.
Thank you.
ditto.
I put one of these vertical racks together yesterday - brilliant!
Wow! That's genius in its simplicity.

That's such a great idea. Especially for shops with limited space.
Thank you for that!
Great idea! Your right I have never seen clamps stored like that. Going to have to do this myself
What a cool, minimalist space saver!
Love the simplicity of this, you nailed it.
Looks like I’ll be redoing my clamp storage when we get home.
As usual, very slick and bright. Also functional.

I dig the unconventional video format. This is a creative use of space. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoyed the different delivery in this one. 👌
Some of my favorite makers don't speak in their videos. This is another genius outside-the-box creation. Keep up the good work!

BRILLIANT!!!! It takes up soooo much less too valuable space.
That incredible! Such a space saver.

This is a massive space saving, great idea, thanks for sharing

Now that’s a bloody good way to store clamps
After seeing this, I rushed out to my shop and made one! Thanks for the terrific storage idea!
Was really hoping you were going to air guitar with the rack at the 3:05 mark! Great project, as always!
😂 I thought the same thing!

Separation of clamp sizes mitigates the issue.

Love your design, very practical!
You're right...I haven't. Looks like a great solution.
Excellent idea! I've been looking for a simple way to store mine in as little space as possible.
Great idea! Love your T shirt on this video. I am left handed also You know what they say about left handers (we are suppose to be real smart).
FREEKING BRILLIANT
your right never seen that before and hell Ya I'm going to make that
Love it! Great idea
...an old saying.......Silence is Golden !
Clever AF
That's useful stuff I miss in YT videos
I love stuff that makes me think about things in a new way. Especially when it comes to clamp storage :)
I love it! Just bought a bunch of clamps from Lowes (they had a great half-price sale on Jorgensen f-clamps) and this will be perfect for that.
Clever! Miss your dulcet tones, but what a great idea!

Brilliant as usual!!!
You need to come up with a brilliant idea for pipe clamps now.
Great idea!
Is it easy to get the lower clamps out while being overlapped with other clamps?
I was wondering the same thing...

Oh... Wow! 😯
I'm definitely copying this idea! Thanks, dude!!! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
This idea wins with its simplicity and efficiency. I am definitely applying it to my workshop!
I like it! Great use of material!
Love it!
In the final shot as you put the clamps up, I could hear you thinking, "Hm. I need more F-clamps."
Great idea, and I'm stealing this one too.
Great idea!!!!!
Great idea
❤ love this!
That is a grand idea!
True that! Never seen this before
Brilliant! And last night that wall of my house fell down…
I literally have 8 clamps. 5 of them are stored on the shop vac / dust stopper cart rim. Others 3 just on a shelf somewhere. Lol. I try to use the lease number clamps possible for any project.
I have just built a rack for my longer camps but still have a lot of shorter "f" clamps in a box, this might just sort out my problem. Thanks.
Great idea! Your videos are always intelligent and original.
I miss your commentary though! I think you always do a great job discussing your builds or techniques.
Anyway, hope you are doing well!
That’s brilliant 😮😮
Mine are just clamped onto the oak beams above my head, luckily it's a fairly low ceiling
Good idea 🙂
I spent 10 minutes trying to get volume on my TV this morning 😂 eventually realised you were going Japanese. Great video as usual 🇮🇪
Ha! Very interesting. Is it easy to take them out? Let’s say, one in the middle?
I do the same sort of thing horizontally, but with PVC pipe lengths and hammers.
Paint me green and call me impressed. Nice!

Nice, takes less space than any I have seen before. Keep up the good work.
Great!
I LIKE it. Hey Mikey...
imma try that
That’s bad ass, but how does it effect taking clamps off that are in the middle. Btw, I’m about to through out what I just made lol.
