    For non-nomadic people, Loop x Ulta offers refillable skincare, bodycare, hand soap and I believe tooth tabs. Not a huge selection of options right now but they are working to add more companies and products. How it works is that they ship your items and will come pick it up in their special tote when you're done to be sanitized then refilled.

      Oh my goodness I didn't know they were starting a program together!! That's SO exciting! Working at Ulta was one of my first jobs as a teenager and this makes me SO STINKING HAPPY TO HEAR!!! They've truly come so far! Hopefully they also stopped throwing out returns too haha. This is exciting progress! 💛💛💛

    What do you mean by a “safer alternative to fluoride” in toothpaste? I’ve always been under the impression that fluoride is incredibly important in dental care?

    • @amelie3012
      @amelie3012 3 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      I was quite surprised I could only find tooth tabs with no fluoride unpackaged in my area, until I walked into a handmade zero waste toileteries shop I had never been too. I asked if the tooth tabs have fluoride and the owner replied "yes, because I consulted a dentist when designing them and he insisted that they should always contain fluoride. Hence, I refuse to sell fluoride free tooth tablets". I have full trust in that shop now, I could tell he cares more about health and safety than the whole "natural" marketing

      There is a brand called hey humans available in target now that is vegan and cruelty free and has a flouride toothpaste in a recyclable metal tube. And it's only $4 to boot! It's my new holy grail toothpaste after years of wondering why there wasn't a standard flouride toothpaste available in a metal tube.

    • @jaydeanita
      @jaydeanita 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      The right amount of fluoride is incredibly important for dental care! It can cause dental issues if over consumed though, which is highly unlike unless people swallow their toothpaste... Not sure why it would be considered unsafe?

    • @BellaHardcastle

      I bought Zao eyeliner, it’s a French brand so it might not be sustainable from an emissions pov but it’s the only liquid eyeliner I could find with a felt tip and a really great formula. I tried 100% Pure but it flaked off after a while and had a brush tip. Anyway the Zao one has a bamboo case with a recyclable refillable ink pot, so if you decide you like it it may be worth it to buy lots of refills, like I plan to do when I use mine up (and I’ve had it for almost a year)!

    For those of you looking into getting toothpaste tablets, you won't be able to find one with flouride because the FDA doesn't allow tablets to have flouride at this point. That's why we see nanohydroxyapatite in these tablets instead.
    The reason that flouride works to prevent cavities is because we have a chemical called calcium hydroxide in our bones (our teeth are bones). When we eat sugars, it makes our saliva acidic (I say as I'm eating chocolate). Since hydroxide is a base, our acidic saliva reacts with the basic hydroxide in our teeth and makes a hole (aka a cavity). The flouride subsitites for the hydroxide in our teeth, forming calcium flouride, which isn't as affected my acids and prevents cavities
    Nanohydroxyapatite (the substitute used in tablets) is also effective because hydroxyapatite is the main compound in bone and enamel. It provides a coating that protects your teeth. So it's perfectly fine to use and better for the environment :)

    • @9melissal
      @9melissal 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a couple tooth tabs that have flouride so I'm not sure why the other companies claim they can't.

    • @bri.du.nguyen
      @bri.du.nguyen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@9melissal My chem professor told me that the FDA does allow flouride in tabs but I've seen tabs with flouride on them too. So I'm not sure about the specifics of making a flouride tab with the FDA regulations. Flouride is great for the teeth, but also is hydroxyapatite. So as long as there's a compund that will prevent cavaties, I think it's fine.

    For makeup companies I love Elate! I do my entire face with Elate now 😂. I have super dry skin and have found that the refresh foundation as well as universal cremes have been game changers for me. I know that the products can be a bit expensive at first but I like to think of it as how much makeup should cost. Every couple of months they do a “we made too much sale” and lots of stuff is 40% off and I got a bunch of stuff then. Otherwise you might be able to find things on Etsy!

I used to wear just black cloths, but few years ago I decided that I was going to add color to my cloths and let me tell you, it did make me more happier and confident and approachable So much that every time I when on a run few people stop me to ask me where was the rave? I guess I over do it with the colors 😂

    In my personal opinion for earrings, I opt to wear surgical steel barbell body jewelry in either a 20 gauge, 18 gauge or my most common- 16 gauge. The best part of wearing barbell earrings is that to change up the look, I only have to change out the ball section of the barbells. Plus, allergies to surgical steel is quite uncommon as surgical steel for jewelry is made out of the same quality of surgical steel as instruments used for surgical procedures. This means that the pricing of the jewelry is quite affordable while the jewelry is nearly indestructible by any means other than melting the jewelry down.
    Another bonus of this type of jewelry (classified as "body jewelry") is that through how they are made means that the chances of it catching the items on hair, face masks or clothing is quite close to zero if at all.

    My favorite eco friendly mascaras that I’ve tried would probably be Pacifica’s newest vegan collagen mascara that comes in a glass tube!! It seems like them as a company have started coming out with a lot more sustainable packaging as well. Otherwise Target has 2 new brands called PYT, where all the packaging is either recyclable and/or made of recycled materials, (tried their mascara & it’s also great!) along with Billion Dollar Beauty, who sell single pan products, & they even have their own magnetic palette! I use their brow pomade & some of their eyeshadows, & I love all of them. :)

    I will wear recycled poly leggings, and Prana's have pockets which I definitely want pockets, AND they don't give me camel toe at all! But on top I really only want to do natural fibers like organic cotton, rayon, and tencel because synthetics tend to really hold odor. I sweat a lot! I do find that I have to wash my workout leggings almost every time I wear them because they stink really quickly (same problem, synthetics hold odor), so I really want to try some merino wool or organic cotton leggings next. I would have gotten some from Pact but they didn't have a high waist, which I'm finding that middle rise waists just don't look great on me anymore. I have squish even if there is muscle underneath. 😅 There are a million leggings in the world but only a few companies that meet my many needs.....

    What do you all guys think about a sustainable skincare product which is totally organic?
    can it hit the current market?
    will there be enough potential buyers?
    would really appreciate your comments on this ?

    Um .. I'm quite sure you can't lie about gold or silver being 'real' cause of the number of constallation. Silver mostly has 925 stamped and gold 333 or 585 (the most common). I never had issues with that cause I always (if not in the discription) asked for pictures of these numbers. I think its the safest thing to buy second hand since these have rules. Not like clothes that change messurement from brand to brand

    Have you unlisted past videos that aren't sustainable or you no longer agree with?

    • @SedonaChristina
      @SedonaChristina  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes! Sadly though, it's less my content I have a problem with (tbh I was never the most consistent lol so there wasn't much) but more so the people I learned from first, before I educated myself on the intersectionality of environmentalism. When being "zero waste" and "clean beauty" were the hot terms on the block and the only solution. I did a whole video about it late last year. Hope that clarifies! xo 💛

    • @emmak4938
      @emmak4938 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally feel ya on that! We'll be moving into an apartment (probably) for the next year and then indefinitely hitting the road so I'm already feeling the minimizing/on-the-go struggles. It's a wild one, but we do what we can, right! Big hugs!! 💛 xo
