Turbo Jet 390 horse thats the call out on the air cleaner just sounds cool.

Not a chance. He and Wooderson are car friends. He even smiles at the end when Wooderson is laughing. They were just having fun, I don't think there was any animosity here. If anything, Clint was with 'his people' here, and when he beats up the nerd kid it's because he doesn't like nerds. There was a time in America when people were threatened by intellectuals and blindly hated them.
Ive also heard Melba Toast is used for soaking up soup, Wooderson could call his Chevelle Melba Toast because it soaks up the competition? I don't know just some opinions.
Absolutely phenomenal scene: the cars, the dialog.. but let's not overlook the soundtrack! "Never Been Any Reason" by Head East is the only song that could make this scene what it is! Pure rock n roll with American muscle cars!!
I would have liked Clint if he remained the same person at the Moontower as he was talking to Wooderson about their cars, I always felt they did a total 180 on Clint's character from this scene to the Moontower scenes.

That car oughta make more than 390HP. When you consider the stock LS5 454 made 390 in 1970, and Wooderson's is bored over with an aftermarket intake and carb, plus higher compression (11:1 as opposed to the stock 10.25:1), I'm imagining it's over 400. And Clint is right, those wimpy F70 tires will not hook worth shit. Now, a pair of L60s... still wouldn't hook because bias ply, but it'd be a lot better.
BTW slicks are bias ply. The softer tread compound and soft sidewalls absorbing the shock to the tire on launch is what makes them hook. Drag radials are great too because you can corner with them on the way to and from the strip. But you know all this. We are a dying breed.

Dude if Clint had tried to fight Pink or Wooderson, all he had to do was throw one punch and either would have easily thrown him to the ground with one hand, and then pinned him there with a foot to his neck! And if you notice Wooderson effortlessly pushes Clint away with that same one hand, and he again stumbles backward like a rag doll following that second fight you were just talking about. That there just shows that Clint knew his place all along!

The dollar went further in 1976 than 1996. Also, people traded out cars every 5 years or so in the past. Wage stagnation noticeably started between 1978-1981 so this is before the combination of The Great Inflation and Reaganomics created the world we knew by '97.

I own two T.A,'s a 76 455 four speed and a 80 with a GM performace parts 350 crate engine, had to get rid of the 301,lol I'm a T.A. nut with that said their has been numerous stories and documents on the 73-74 SD455's they were probably around a high 365-380hp yes they made 400+ftlbs, they underated the hp due to the stage of smog motors and going for fuel economy, some of this cars un touched have dynoed high 300hp, not so much for the 76 455 a whopping 220hp, so I made extreme mods to mine!!
