Ho, man! You should be in the movie business. The lighting, the camera moves and short depth of field, and the music are top-notch. If you still have the raw footage, and I say this because I'm starting to lose a bit of my hearing, I would back the music off just a bit so we could hear you better. I don't want to miss one word. PS. Kudos for the graphic overlays done so well. Bravo, my friend.
Beautiful work and done with mastery! Always a pleasure to see an artist at work employing skills handed down by other generations and then mastering it himself, so others can appreciate it! Congratulations!
Just wanted to say this video I watched for the first time 2 weeks ago. So I thought I'd give this a try. It took me awhile to get my mix to a thickness I liked but otherwise I copied what I saw here and was able to run 3 rooms in my house. Looks perfect. My friends loved it and contracted me to do this in their house. That was 7 days ago I'm now lined up to do 3 other homes in the next 2 weeks. Thanks for this educational video.
I'm encouraged by the way that you made it so doable, i know that it's not a walk in the park but at least i know it's achievable as I've been thinking about either putting one of those or installing a coffered ceiling, Thx
no wonder in Chicago there are only about 100 real plasterers.I'm in the painting field and let me tell you my friend that's an art.keep up the good work!
They are actually part of my union and we just did the floors for them in their new training hall. You are right though, there isn’t many of them. They do some real cool stuff. I think some job lately has been keeping them all busy too. Cheers!
Question: do I have to hire a band to play music in the background when i’m working on the moulding? And, will they do it for free or will I have to charge it as an extra cost to the client? I’m just concerned the client may have issues with the extra cost incurred. Can I not just do it without the band? Seems a bit unnecessary to me. Regards
Plastering is a art I myself learned that art from my father to and running moulding is a gift that I learned aswell it's lovely to see a traditional trade been completed so well people do not appreciate the work that goes in to it that man has to make the mould runner before he even starts .well done and a pleasure to watch from one craftman to another. Gallagher plastering.com
I am 2nd generation plastering. I never learned mold running from my dad. I can repair crown molding point to point, but I wish I had learned this skill.
Such an art. Well done. So…is there a special type of insert into the electrical box that allows a free-spinning arm? If so, can I buy one or is it homemade. ??
I have always wanted to know how to do this lost art. Thank you for posting this. Just one suggestion, for me the music was a bit loud and made it difficult to hear you. My hearing is not what it used to be. Once again thank you.
nice job simple but nice... no one pays for this kind of stuff any more is al go go go... just look at very old building with gargoils etc...i use to do angels, gargoils, ogees... now no one pays for the art. if you can live doing this nice for you...
Not familiar with concrete glue . And what is the dry stuff in middle of plaster ??......and what are the screws in cieling for ?.....looks good though
So i need help i have an older home 1900s. were im trying to repair the crown plaster molding that my brother ripped out of the front . I need suggested where i can make a mold
I feel like you left some crucial info out.....what products did you use? You clearly used two different products to make your mix, but you didn't say what they were.
I just bought a tub of plaster of paris and the warnings say not to get it on your skin and protect you eyes, mouth and nostrils from the fine powder. You can imagine my expression when I saw this guy plastic wrapped inside a shell with this stuff and then mixes with his handssssssssssssss...........
You couldn't do it MORE complicated? Nice that you can do it straight on the ceiling, but how about doing it on the table and THEN putting it on the ceiling, huh? haha Imagine modelling? Do you do it at the ceiling or on the table? Food for thought.
There's a second guy/gal holding the camera, if done in one peace, try to use the other person to help you. If you are alone, you can cut the piece in two. Mark the outline of the circle on the ceiling and glue/ screw it in place.
Sorry, but can you imagine the cost for a plain plaster ring like this? Probably $500. in labor & matls. including set-up & clean -up. Compared to buying a large ,ornate medalion off the shelf for $150. It does not make any sense for such a plain ring.
s. Giustino it's about how traditional it is that's why people kill plastering you want what's cheap but let me tell you plaster lasts a hell of a lot longer than drywall

Yes, I found it very difficult to hear everything bc the music was too loud

Is the 789 thumbs down because of the music ? Because you cannot fault his work , thumbs up from us .
True and pure craftsmanship here on this video.
The music is so loud one can hardly hear what he says, instead of special effect on the video you could simply do a simple and clear video.
I'm encouraged by the way that you made it so doable, i know that it's not a walk in the park but at least i know it's achievable as I've been thinking about either putting one of those or installing a coffered ceiling, Thx

That's awesome.I Never knew about this until today. Your work is perfection , you can tell you've perfected your craft to an artform. Great work sir.
Stunningly simple and elegant
I like the creativity man...I'm a Swazi carpenter.... can design, lay out the kitchen cabinetry, ceiling designs....
Absolutely stunning work!!! I love working with plaster. One day I would love to be skilled as you are.
P
I love that this was shot like the intro to a soap opera
Nice insitu running mold mate-like the screw idea for keying in the mold to ceiling.
Must be the last guy in the USA with such skills. Great.
Craftsmanship, a lost art. Very impressive.
Ahh...gauging on a board, old school lime and gauging. nice job from one plasterer to another
Awesome!! A lot of people would rather just go to Walmart, but those are not the kind of clients a good craftsman needs 😉
OH!!! I can't believe there are still REAL craftsman out there!!!. I wish you lived in my town. I can't even find anyone that can finish windows!!
Janice Gwyn I moved back to Scotland. 😂
:-( America's loss
Janice Gwyn omg..why that's happent?
santo raja it was called recession. I'm now in Dunoon Scotland. .been here to long time for a move 😁
Janice Gwyn. Where do you live??
You know that this kind of work is expensive right?
the mixture is
drywall compound and plaster of paris.
that's why it takes 72 hours to be painted.
Lime putty would require 3 weeks to cure properly for painting.
What do you mean by 'drywall compound'? Bucket mud, pre-mixed?
A real work of art! What materials are you using for plaster mouldings?
Beautiful. Thank you for posting this!

Music so anoying, cant hear instructions!!!
Well Done! The music is pretty but I'd rather there be no music so I could hear him clearly.
Music's a bit loud? Can't really hear you.
Nice vid though 🙂
This man is a WIZARD
Gracias for your video I like it's a wonderful job. God bless you

Gran obra arte felicidades señor
Nicely done, but definitely should be wearing a mask to prevent silicosis. That stuff never stops cutting up your lungs & never gets out.
Not familiar with concrete glue . And what is the dry stuff in middle of plaster ??......and what are the screws in cieling for ?.....looks good though
Can you made it in the ground on piece of plywood cover with plastic and then stick it in the ceiling it will be much much easier for you?
Mahmoud Mairi you can do it right on plywood just make sure to put vasoline where the mould rubs then hang it up with straight moulding plastere
This guy is bad ass.. Good job
Brilliant video mate👌🕯🚬☕️

EXCELLENT OUTCOME from a genuine craftsman !!!! Job well and nicely done !!!!
Beautiful, cost for the ring, $500+, close?

What mix do you use? Is it lime putty plus plaster of Paris or just the latter?
I feel like you left some crucial info out.....what products did you use? You clearly used two different products to make your mix, but you didn't say what they were.

THIS VIDEO IS AWESOME . WHERE DID YOU GET THAT TOOL TO DO THIS WORK?
running moulds are made by hand using timber for stock and slipper pieces and usually a thin metal plate template cut to profile for the shape.

Do you really think you could attach a piece that size to the ceiling by yourself?
There's a second guy/gal holding the camera, if done in one peace, try to use the other person to help you. If you are alone, you can cut the piece in two. Mark the outline of the circle on the ceiling and glue/ screw it in place.
