At the time of DOOM 2016's release, our hobby group played the OST so much, that my friend who was hosting banned it from his house. We still sneak in a song every once in a while just to work him up from time to time. He did finally play the game 2 years ago and understood finally why we loved the music so much
Totally agree about doing something which totally puts you in the zone. As a black-belt in Taekwondo, I remember driving home as a beginner and being confused by how calm a driver I was. I normally find all of the idiots on the road really annoying and get a bit worked up. I asked our Master what was going on and he explained that because I was so focused on putting my hands and feet in the right places, everything else got pushed to the side. He called it a moving meditation. Great channel, North, keep up the good work mate.
One of my brother’s models is Sergeant Baldface, a poorly painted Ultramarine sergeant with a bolt pistol and chainsword. To everyone else he’s an old firstborn, but to us he is a veteran. He has fought many battles, the first being against orks (since we got the Assault on Black Reach box). Sergeant Baldface has been a major part of our hobby career that I made a new Primaris version of him for my Deathwatch army. I run him as a Judiciar in game, and as an ork specialist in lore.
My store ran a 30k siege of terra game with a custom two foot center piece as the defensive walls (the ramparts large enough to fit a basalisk). While normally id run custodes I choose to take out almost 2000 points of milita infantry (it was 6k per side). We played a whole Sabaton playlist as the 6k points of traitors crashed against the milita's trenches with the Loyalist marines comfy on the ramparts shooting down. Roughly 1500 points of militia held the line while I zeroed in with 500 points of artillary on my own defensive line. When I hear any of their songs I remember turn three looking at my box of over 200 models worth of dead militia.
Playing split screen Halo back in the day with the CD player on led to some epic moments, mainly by brother shouting “DIE DIE DIE!” As “i will survive “ hits the chorus…
In terms of music, When I used to go to Games Workshop in 2009 to play and paint, the manager had a metal playlist of his own playing through the speakers. Most of the bands I'd never heard about and most of the play list only had one song from many bands. Except Disturbed. He had every song from the Indestructible album playing every day, and every time I listen to a song from that album I get reminded of the simpler times, before University work started to take a toll and the stresses of adult life really hit.
Once had Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds playing in the background in an OPR game, simply cause I was up against my friends Necron army and he brought his Doomstalker (fighting machine) to the action. Uuuuuulaaaaaaa!
Music for game nights Haven't had a warhammer night yet, but on boardgame nights or D&D nights we were rocking the classics! Some Metallica and Ozzy, sure. But mostly classic rock. Kiss, Aerosmith, whitesnake, van halen, Toto. Especially "Africa" by Toto. Was on every time without fail.
Sounds great! This is the sort of thing we gravitate towards too. Classic rock/hard rock/some metal but you can still think and socialise without shouting over it. A lot of our group like metal, but there's a time and a place for stuff like Slayer or even death metal, but for me that time is not when you're trying to concentrate on a game
I have these boar boyz in my attic, I'm going to photograph before I strip them. once I get more incomings than outgoings in my financial situation I'm going to repaint them
It's not really my cup of tea per se, but the chuggy bouncy guitars of nu-metal is the soundtrack of the hobby in my mind. If only because it was all that GW shops seemed to play back in the day where you could actually take your cases in and play a game on a weekend and the guys were putting their own CDs on. I do distinctly remember one of the staff members used to play a lot of rock renditions of videogame music in our local too, so you'd get stuff like The Black Mages version of Final Fantasy tunes, F Zero's mute city as a guitar piece and the like.
We always play mesbg with Lotr OST playing at the background of course 😅 Games like BB and Total war also have some great tracks for their similar games
I can be a bit eclectic at times with my music choice while hobbying. But my main music is normally death metal. I won't mention the names here as that alone would make Satan himself puke. 😂
*ssdi social security/disability income check. Daryl was definitely a dick but what happened to him I'm not necessarily calling karma as that might be pretty extreme but like you said north, just an old price with no self awareness

“does your mother know” by ABBA always sticks with me. During a D&D game when my rogue was trying to steal the evil wizards staff.
