  • The fine folks at HTVRont contacted me recently to see if I'd participate in their big spring blow-out "Fans Carnival" celebrating their 5 years in business
    ( link here: bit.ly/3LWgPYa ),
    and I said "Yeah, I will!" So here is the second video featuring HTVRont products, specifically Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) and also their Teflon Sheets used with HTV. I cut and weeded the HTV, wrapped it around two tumblers, then wrapped those cups with the teflon, pressed them both in my tumbler press, and voila -- two gorgeous, tooled-leather-patterned tumblers!! The HTV gods were quite delighted. See the HTVRont store here: ebay.to/3LYBPgN

    The tumbler press: I don’t recommend this tumbler press anymore. Not because there’s anything wrong with the machine, but because the company selling it has very poor customer service. If you’re interested in a tumbler press, Mr. Nola’s Glitter is selling one, plus they’ll do lots of online demos with it, and they have great customer service! The press isn’t up on their website yet, but I believe they’re taking preorders if you email (mngcustomerservice@gmail.com). If you join their FB group, you can see the press in posts there.

    I love Swirls! Mostly swirls of color, but really any swirls at all - I think they add a beauty and grace to everything. So after I started making soap a few years ago, and needing some sort of biz name that didn't sound like everyone else's version of suds-r-us, I decided on Luxinda Swirl. Luxinda is a twist on my real name, and I quickly started putting swirls of color in all of my handmade soaps.
    Now I'm branching out a bit, and I want to keep adding swirls to everything I do!

      Great video! I use HTV on my tumblers for text. I experimented with one of my tester tumblers and it worked both under and over resin (not in a tumbler press, I used a small iron). I'd post a picture if TH-cam would let me.

    When you use HTV the clear carrier sheet that's on it shouldn't touch any or part of the same design cause the HTV will stick to the carrier sheet if at all possible can get it seamless like the black one you did is gorgeous they are beautiful I've been working with HTV for years love it and there's so many colors, designs, patterns I love watching your videos you explain things like no one else to help people like me that's just starting out making tumblers there or only a few like you that explains things if everyone could be like you that's why they called tutorials to help teach others and you Luxinda do just that..........

    I wanted to suggest this but was afraid you would think it was nuts 🤣 you have seen me use an actual iron to apply iron on a tumbler press is way safer and easier. Also I am pretty sure you could use the laminator to use some of the htv on papers for the other channel, or try it anyways I've again ironed on paper I'd think a laminator would work 🤷‍♀️

      Thank you!! Yes, I saw someone awhile back (Everything Tumbler Tutorials maybe?) add an HTV name onto a tumbler with her heat gun. It didn’t seem particularly easy, but it did open the door to having a lot more vinyl prints and designs available.

    Htv is so much easier to weed. I don’t have a heat press but I wonder if I could use a heat gun or even a iron.
    You could use the same pattern and spray paint over it then do a wood grain. That would be cool. That just saved a ton of time. Both turned out beautiful. They looked pretty darn prefect to me. Great job.

These are so gorgeous!! Thank you and Happy Easter.

      Thank you!! Well, we'll be finding out soon, because that's my next test - LOL! I'm hoping that because the press is only for 15 seconds, then pause, then 15 seconds, that there won't be enough time for the heat to really affect the resin. And KS Resin is rated to 450-degrees F, soooooo it should work. 🤞

    I wonder if you should have placed vinyl and removed transfer tape before pressing. Place Teflon wrap and then press?

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that might be pretty difficult to do -- while I was able to pull the excess HTV off during weeding, it stretched and tore quite a lot -- it's very firmly stuck to the backing and doesn't really want to release until it's heated. I might have been able to do that if I'd wrapped it on then used a heat gun on it to try and release the backing, and then wrapped it in something like parchment paper and pressed it. I can tell you that the Teflon sheet directly on the HTV during pressing will transfer the texture of the Teflon sheet onto the HTV. The vinyl goes from being flat and shiny to being matte and textured. Which can be really cool looking, but maybe not desired every time.

    didnt know HTV works on tumblers, how was it after washing? oh and will it also work on ceramic or glass mugs?

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  ปีที่แล้ว

      It sticks great when heat pressed onto a painted tumbler, then I covered the entire cup with a coat of epoxy resin. So the cup washes fine in that situation. I’m sure it will also heat press onto mugs and glass fine, although I’m not sure in those situations how it would hold up to repeated washings with no protective layer over it.

    Question: does it feel "raised"? Can you use HTV that would be used for fabric? How did you fix the seam on the green one? why did that part lift? was it the overlap? I didn't see you sand the cups. Was that a necessary step or just skip doing it and stay shiny? Sorry for so many questions. Thanks.
    Donna

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the HTV does feel slightly raised, but that disappears under resin. This is the same HTV that is used on fabric. Those extra bits on the seam were vinyl from the overlap, and because they came off the backing, they were easy to just press down (they stuck fine). But, yes, I'd have less trouble if I did a better job of trimming everything first so there's no overlap. I did not sand the black on steel one, because I didn't want scuff marks. But the green one had been sanded before I sprayed it green. No worries 😊 Thanks for watching!!!

    Hi! Just did a few. Question....do you spray seal before epoxy? I used glitter vinyl, pain in the butt. So wondering if these should be sealed to prevent fisheyes etc

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I would say it’s always safer to go ahead and seal if you aren’t sure. Especially if fisheyes might occur. I haven’t worked specifically with glitter htv, but it certainly sounds like a good idea to spray a layer of clear over the cup. In general, spray sealing can’t hurt and just makes the whole project take a little longer. Let me know what happens 😊

    May I ask why you painted that tumbler first?

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most folks spray paint their tumblers to achieve a certain base color. You can also paint on a base with a brush if you don’t have spray or bad weather prevents using any at the time. Or you can leave the stainless showing, which gives a different look to the tumbler.

  • @oonavega1230

    Those tumblers look like they have multi colored lights on them! What’s giving that effect?

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That amazing sparkle in the reveal shot at the end is because I added a squirt of Marabu glitter alcohol ink and a dash of "Brite" glitter from Peachy Olive Glitters to the layer of resin I applied to both cups.

  • @aneternaloriginal
    @aneternaloriginal ปีที่แล้ว +1

    With HTV do you still feel the layer of vinyl on tumblers/glass?

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you heat press HTV onto a tumbler or coffee mug or whatever and don’t do anything else, yes you will feel the edges. If you resin over the whole thing (and that may require a couple layers of resin), then no, the surface will be smooth.

  • @ritaurbina8281
    @ritaurbina8281 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I haven't tried resin yet, do you have to wear a mask to do this procedure?

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s another one of those personal choice situations. Some people do wear a respirator, some people don’t. I happen to wear one, but you should do your own research by going to the website if the specific epoxy resin you’re using and read their MSDS (material safety data sheets) about the potential dangers, then you can decide if a respirator is the way to go.

    • @Luxinda
