Loved the term “edimental”! Although it is warmer in the climate where I live, I plant basil in April and then pinch off a few tops every week or two and put them in glasses of water on a sunny windowsill to propagate new basil plants. Once they have some decent root growth, they go back in the garden! A never ending supply of basil until fall!

Thanks for the heads up about perennial nasturtiums. Will see if i can source any. I have some asturian cabbage tree which i saw on your videos and am going to plant very soon.
Also i take from your narrative that you are pretty much on board with whats going on regarding the food supply.
Its vital people realise that your videos are a potential life line, and i mean LIFE line, IF and only IF they will actually put them into practice.
Come on people, dont lets roll over and let them cow us down, we can see this through! Stick with Huw and others that are going out on a limb to advice us as subtly as they can. Real food shortage incoming.

Also holy Basil I makes a wonderful tea. Lastly I eat as much fresh basil as possible while I can on pizza, sandwiches, tomato salads, and anywhere else I can.

Sowing broccoli in May...man I'd love to.
I've just finished all my sowing, up-potting and transplanting and everything is already struggling. 90+F days already and Spring isn't even officially over. All my pollinator flowers are going to die before anything can feed off them.
I moved back to the desert in December (Southern Nevada) and have been kicking butt setting the garden up since. I've thrown all my seeds at the wall to see what will actually survive the heat as I have MINIMAL shade that is usable and couldn't even consider planting brassicas until Sept.
I'm also doing the bulk in containers so I can move them around to see where things will be happiest and of course have loads of 'experiments' going.
I spend all day in the garden fretting over crops that have wilted by noon and are being beaten up by high desert winds.😮‍💨
I'll be needing to fatten up my seed stock again it seems😆

    • @joannc147
      @joannc147 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I’m agreeing with the other posting….you’ve got to invest in some shade cloth. You can certainly mimic a “hoop house” or tunnel and secure the 40% shade cloth thereto. Line up your containers underneath. Good luck!

When scaffolding is up, a netting goes on the outside of that. When they'd finished, I've traded a long sheet for a cake. It is sturdy to use tie wraps on and bamboo canes, so you can easily create your own set up, like Roman blinds. Have some sturdy shrubbery stuff in pots on the outside to break the wind. 🌿🌷🐦

I'm a very impatient Gardner and on my allotment I have some power with a solar panel but I really want a heat mat to greatly improve germination times but I can't create enough power. I had a thought. If I raised a paving slab, prob the thick local authority ones up on bricks then put candles underneath it, I could warm up the slab, put my trays on top and keep them warm to increase germination times. If I made an olive oil candles they would last a lot longer than using tea lights. Have you ever seen anything like this before?

🤣🤣 Love that! I even planted 8 leeks last month. They look great. Have I EVER eaten a leek?…….um, no…..but Huw says…..and so I planted them.

Purple sprouting broccoli takes up too much space for too long a time for relatively little reward compared to other veg !

Huw, I love your videos, but the subtitles are dreadful. Would you like someone who understands your accent to write them correctly spelled? Because the AI you appear to be using thinks you're growing Ober Jeans! Lolol.

It's TH-cam that does the subtitles, not AI I am choosing🤣

I was watching the subtitles and it kept saying Neriums while I was looking at nasturtiums. Neriums are deadly poisonous, of course. Please consider writing up your scripts and uploading proper subtitles rather than relying on the automatic nonsense generators. Captions are very important for accessibility for the deaf.
