Jake Master.... You are a Serious Fabricator..... Im hanging with you till you blew me away with the electric diagram on the honda light system and then incorporated a start swich within and added contact tabs and wiring.... That my Man was some serious ingenuity ! Totally impressed..... and i've only seen one video!
I was once a motorcycle messenger for Western Union International in Hawaii where I grew up. I used a Honda Super 90 to deliver my telegrams and put thousands of miles on that machine, and it never complained or gave me any trouble at all. The only thing I ever had to maintain on it was change the points and condenser, change the oil and sparkplug periodically. I never even had to adjust the valve lash for all of those miles! I have now a 1970 Honda trail 90 in near mint condition. I will never sell it. That particular Honda 90 CC mill is one of the best engines man has ever produced.
Such a good feeling seeing an engine come together. Also this series has been super useful. I'm taking a look at some CT90s this weekend to restore and I'm loaded with a lot more knowledge now when I go to take a look. Thanks!
I enjoy the series and your humor. Comment on rings: I would have installed them in the cylinder and measured the end gap before installing them on the piston.
I just received a Honda CT90 and your video was great ..My CT 90 was only 3 when it died. I am about to go through the electrical system. I use a cork type gasket paper. when replacing gaskets. they squash nicely.
I once made a carb bowl gasket for a Farmall from a cereal box. It has ran perfect for the about 15 years now. I just had to very lightly coat it in rtv sealer.
Eagerly awaiting! I paid 10x what you did for my CT90, and I have also blown by you in buying a gasket kit. But I need to take it apart to put it back together. Lead on!!! I love your "cross purposing", esp. that valve compression device! That was awesome (IMO)
Enjoying the series very much. A question though. No concerns about tolerances of the valve stem in the valve guide letting oil pass? I'm wondering if that's what's up with my engine.
I think that typically the reasons for oil burning is either piston ring/cylinder issues, or the rubber valve stem seals. I won't say much about my bike because I don't want to spoil the series for you, but keep watching. In the beginning of part 11 I briefly talk about something that is similar to your issue. thanks!
Strange how you seem to have a good set of tool and equipment in your big garage, but you wont go out and buy gaskets and o rings for a couple bucks. I'm loving these restoration videos by the way :-)
I know its just a budget build, and its been sometime since it was new, But as a journeyman mechanic, Its really painful to watch this guy work. At least he has a sense of humor and a lot of knuckle busters to show for it, just put some more grease on it, LOL!!!!!
I can’t for the life of me get the camshaft in. I’ve tried every which way flipping it 180 degrees etc. Any tricks or something I did wrong? Any help would be great! Thanks!
is the st90 and the ct90 motors the same ? im having trouble getting my 72 st90 started not sure about setting points at all all i i know is what i have found on youtube and she still wont run . i have fuel and spark . could it be valve lash ? could you pm me some how ?
I was just going to write and tell you that, while I appreciate being thrifty, reusing that intake valve was the last straw! But then I see that you replaced it. : ) It was likely why the engine wasn't running well, because of the unleaded fuel.
I don't know! It was a long time ago. Probably I was thinking the screwdriver acting as a lever was something like the ancient guys moving stones with levers.
Ahh what a shame :-(, ive made time wasting mistakes as well, you never feel quite so happy the second time round :-(. But its a little engine and easy to work with so you can perfect the gasket matching, and with clever editing it looks as if nothing had happened, awaiting a re upload of this video ha ha :-)) Hope its got spark, oops thats the brain jumping in without my permission lol.
Just use a gasket kit,??? no bloody silicone,it peels off inside the motor, blocking oilways etc....a big no/no..and cylinder base gasket is awful..$15 bucks to do the job correct..cant watch any more..but you did show how to line the cam up with the chain timing etc..so a thanks for that..
Eh, i'm out. I stuck around to part 5 but using axle grease as assembly lube, leaving gaskets out, not even measuring tolerance of anything, i can't do it. There's cheap, and theres stupid cheap, and part 5 is thoroughly into stupid cheap territory. A harbor freight micrometer is 15 bucks, theres literally no reason to not at lease know if the parts you're putting in are remotely in spec.
Nothing against a low budget restoration, but to save on the cheap, but vital seals, that's just bungling. You mistreat poor Honda just like her previous owner did. You're just totally stingy, that doesn't go with that Porsche you are hiding under the cover in your garage.
I'm only 15 and your videos have made me learn so much about dirt bike engines

Great videos! Entertaining, and well documented, makes for an educating watch.
I learn so much from your videos and I'm only 14 every time i watch a new vid i learn something new keep i up man
SO glad you don't use grease for assembly lube, as grease displaces oil.
KEEP making videos, you are a natural filmmaker, very informative and very entertaining. The shirt on backwards ending had me laughing out loud.
your garage diy fabricating is awesome I wish I could be that creative and save all that trouble

Future Jacob. Priceless.
Frank Vargas haha thanks Frank. The guy's a know it all.
I almost shit my pants

Your a funny dude...entertaining.
***** Thanks! Glad you liked it.

N Martin Glad you liked the video! I just put up the next episode, check it out.
Great video and love your humor

did I miss the valve seals being installed or did the H90 not use them?
I have the same hacksaw but I use mine for cutting the tops of deer skulls off

u forgot to put gasket between cylinder and head 13:16
What did you do with the ct90 motor after you replaced it with the 125?
I know its just a budget build, and its been sometime since it was new, But as a journeyman mechanic, Its really painful to watch this guy work. At least he has a sense of humor and a lot of knuckle busters to show for it, just put some more grease on it, LOL!!!!!
I fabricated a wooden piece the same way for a spring compressor.
8:06 old grease ragg is his tshirts lol
Well shit Yea, I got a bag full of my kids out grown clothes... Buy rags? Lol no got plenty haha
Damm bro, your editing is too funny hahha
I can’t for the life of me get the camshaft in. I’ve tried every which way flipping it 180 degrees etc. Any tricks or something I did wrong? Any help would be great! Thanks!
I couldn't get mine out, but it worked when I took the valve adjustment screws out. That might help get it in too.
That piston needed more work. Still looked rough around the grooves.
Why no assembly paste? It’s cheap as chips.
i make my own paper gaskets all the time, never been a issue.

Excellent
Scott Pessetto Thanks!
What brand of Gaskets do you recommend for the top end?
I only used honda and vesrah and they both worked good. I avoid the no name stuff on ebay
Jennies Garage thanks for getting back to me. I ended up ordering Vesrah gaskets for the 1974 ST90 I am restoring so I'm glad you recommend them.
if your shirt is on backwards its tuesday if it is inside out and back wards it is thursday
When is part 6 going up???
colby jellum I'm trying to get another video up by the 15th, but we'll see how it goes :)
Nine dollars well spent.
What is the joke “this is an old pyramid builders trick” from?
I don't know! It was a long time ago. Probably I was thinking the screwdriver acting as a lever was something like the ancient guys moving stones with levers.
Head gasket ?
❤❤

zx8401ztv no way, I'm keeping it real! I hope it has spark too. Haven't even checked the stator or coil yet. Fingers crossed.
Doesn't say if camshaft can be put in wrong
cool just like Mcgyver
Iseekoutthetruth Thanks man! Sometimes that scrap pile can be handy.
👍😄
Fact
Ohhh... I hate when that happens!
Cap10323 yeah kind of a face palm moment, but that's life!
Shouldve changed that piston tough
It wasn’t long after getting Elsa she was being beat with a hammer
You need to find some used oil to soak in because you're so cheap you squeak.
Your cheap squeaker squad
Just use a gasket kit,??? no bloody silicone,it peels off inside the motor, blocking oilways etc....a big no/no..and cylinder base gasket is awful..$15 bucks to do the job correct..cant watch any more..but you did show how to line the cam up with the chain timing etc..so a thanks for that..

Some corners can be cut but you abuse that right ...Keep away from Honda engines...
sorry,, I cringed through the name for a machine, but had to bail out when I saw grease go on the valve
