    The first time I saw Johnny play was mid 1972. I've seen him at least a dozen or so times over the last 40+ years, up until 2013. I got his autograph 4 different times, the last time, I met him at a meet and greet, before the 2013 show. I handed him a ratty (almost 40 year old) tour shirt to sign. He looked up at me with a grin and signed it. He had to know I was a life long fan. I reached out my hand and he shook it. It still makes me smile when I think about it. I now have that shirt framed with other ticket stubs and autographs. He was one of the best. R.I.P Johnny, SRV, and now Jeff Beck. You were such a big part of my life growing up. You are missed.

    So talented. Plays and sings like only Johnny Winter can. What a treat this was for all those guys listening. ‘Still Alive And Well’ just says it ALL. He’s missed very much.

      Amen! Met Johnny three times post Richard Hughes/Randy JH era...he's just like you described! Bobby Torello was a monster, Jon Paris was always just too cool, Tom Compton was quiet and conservative. I remembering sitting on their bus and chatting...it was truly an experience any musician would have loved.

      Winter and Hendrix shared a lot in common...mainly, they were so incredibly fluid...their fingers just smoothly flew up and down the fretboard--think about the many hundreds of hours of practice, to get to that level of virtuosity. Both Jimi and Johnny were deeply rooted in the Blues, with Johnny leaning more into a bluesy style of his own. Jimi and Johnny did jam a few times in NYC, and actually recorded a few tunes at the Record Plant studios. IMO, those two men were simply the finest players of their era...and thankfully, Johnny made it to 70, despite his having struggled with heroin, methadone and booze for decades.

    I got to sit down & chop it up backstage at Winter’s End festival then saw him play a cosmic approximately 90 minute set that was unbelievable.
    A cherished memory.
    Believe me, I have lived an interesting life.
    Great video.
    I loved Johnny. He is the real deal…

    Had the privilage of seeing him a good dozen times...my first guitar hero, from '70's high school and connection to the real Blues, via his friendship & Grammy winning work with the immortal, Muddy Waters‼️

    I remember watching this when it came on TV. It was a WABX Detroit radio station run show but on local TV. They featured Johnny and a young Ted Nugent to name a few. It was great to see musicians in such a laid back format :-) Peace

    It's nice to see Johnny Winter acknowledging the McCoys as a good band that got trapped into a 'Bubblegum Rock' image - and that was the reason that they dropped the McCoys name and went with JOHNNY WINTER AND instead.

    Saw Johnny at the Spectrum in Philadelphia in the 70s about six rows from stage crowd was jammed like sardines and swaying cause so tight remember some chick as a backup singer dancer and Johnny was playing his firebird between her legs turned out in an interview he was quoted as saying he was messed up on acid as the stage was revolving one of the best shows I ever seen Johnny was at the top couldn’t tell he was tripping

    This has got to be the best of the best of Johnny....just jammin'....wow what a translucent sound coming of that Firebird with just a bare hint of amp grunge....shows off the utter clean--ness of his licks.

    • @curbozerboomer1773
      @curbozerboomer1773 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is what impresses me about Johnny's playing...so fast, yet very clean licks...Hendrix could stay with him, but was a little bit sloppy compared to winter. both guys were skinny, with very long, strong fingers.
