- After several years of abuse on the beach & in the bush, the GQ Patrol is full of rust & covered in dents. After my recent trip to Cape York, I told myself I would send it one last time through the $1000 Track as a wagon & then it would be time to chop it into an extra cab ute & rebuild it fresh & ready for it's next life.

Yeah mate! Same spline, just a bit of dicking about to get the horn working trimming the plastic and that, I never bothered with mine.

Yeah I’m keen on the finished product haha, I suck at working on something slow and taking my time.
CAM Fabrications from QLD do rear wall kits for dual cab and extra cab chops. And a lot of people use a grinder to cut slits into the tube to curve it
Yeah I did look into those, ended up making one from scratch will be in part 2 👌🏻
Go the tube and weld in bends mate?
Yeah it was an option. To get some prefab bends but we’ve gone another way now so that’s all good.

Mate I just completed a chop on my swb patrol. I went wellside and used a hilux rear window and rear mount radiator. Lot of work but look great.
Nice dude! I definitely would have gone a style side i love the look but I have so much rust, and I mean the whole intention was to have less panels also.. but yeah I do rate the look

Ahh from memory there is a fair bit of rust down in the bottom rear corners, but if you hit me up on Insta you’re welcome to take them if you need some and they’re any good

Yeah I’ll certainly do my best, never done much with sheet metal it’s already a pain in the ass but I’ll keep at it!
A lot of fatigued metal in the old wagon, will be heaps better after the rebuild.

Yeah dude, all of the other work aside from the 37’s (play tyres) is currently being worked on, and I’ve been on the phone to the chop engineer all week, I’ll include a bit of that in part 2. 🫡
