Changing Disney Songs Into DARK Minor Keys 🎃

- For this video, I decided to take some of my favorite major key Disney songs and change them to horrifying, dark minor keys instead.
The end result is... somewhat disturbing.

I tried to use my piano skills to create the best arrangements I possibly could, but I'll warn you- it's still jarring to hear a major key song put into a minor key.
Also, I welcome any lyric re-writes to match the darker tone ;)

I love how "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" immediately sounds like a villain song when you flip it. The rest turn out a lot more dirge-like.
It's like the song was given to Scar instead of Simba.
it sounds like 'i just cant wait to be king' means simba will like murder his father and not waiting until his time
The "Part of Your World" one sounds like it would fit the OG ending of The Little Mermaid. Just takes all the stuff that happened to a whole new level of DAMN.
I personally like the original story more than the Disney version

I thought I recognised it.
OMG _I See The Light_ is so haunting. I can easily imagine it being played with new lyrics in a movie adaptation of the book "What Once Was Mine" that explores an alternate universe where Rapunzel's mother the Queen drank a potion from the wrong flower, the moondrop flower, which gave Rapunzel's hair killing powers, much like when she recites the Decay Incantation in the "Tangled the Series/Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure". I just started reading the book. It's by Liz Braswell and is part of Disney Book's _A Twisted Tale_ series that re-tell the classic stories.
Whoa that's a pretty crazy twist on the original! The idea of killing hair never even occurred to me!

That book is SO GOOD! I might like it even better than the actual story. Yes.I said it. It's AMAZING

Instead of a hopeful song about clarity, it's like a gloomy song about someone following the light and going into the afterlife but it's also kind of what they wanted
Or the haunting relief that comes realizing you've been decieved and left in the dark for years. That everything you ever knew was a lie... but now you can make a new life for yourself.

Well that was interesting. Part of Your World seems to make more sense in a minor key because she's trying to get out the ocean and experience what it's like on land. A Whole New World sounds weird the Lion King one makes Simba sound like he's evil lol.
Part of your world already mixed major and minor keys.
And the minor Just Can't Wait To Be King is Scar's version.
Simba was kind of a d*ck as a king in part 2. It took a while for him to realize that.
Dark Beauty and the Beast belongs in Once Upon a Time when their relationship is in a dark place.
That was such a quality show!
"I see the light" was my favorite, sounds like a much sadder, lonely version...like something Rapunzel would sing if Eugene had in fact, stayed dead and she couldn't save him :(
Darker Alternative Sing Reasoning:
I Just Can’t Wait To Be King: *Simba waiting for Mufasa’s death so he can take over*
Part Of Your World:
*Ariel is left isolated, never getting legs and her true love*
Beauty And The Beast:
*Belle forced to be with the Beast, never gaining trust and him never changing his actions/temper*
I See The Light:
*Flynn never came and Rapunzel was left with Mother Gothel for her entire life*
A Whole New World:
*Jafar accomplishes killing Aladdin, never giving him the opportunity to be with Jasmine*

Why does “Part of your world” not sound really dark? It still has a bit of a beautiful tone to it most of the time!
Hans Christian Anderson's original [tragic] story of The Little Mermaid.
That's a great question. The original actually has a lot of major AND minor chords mixed together to create that sound of longing! So when you invert it... it's still a lot of major and minor chords. So it's not all happy switching to all sad. It's a mix of both switching to a mix of both.
It sounds sorta bittersweet to me.

This version of I See The Light seems like a dark reprise if Rapunzel's promise to Mother Gothel was kept and Flynn rider didn't cut her hair. Because he died before she had a chance to save him. So Gothel kept her prisoner in the tower for the rest of her life and probably afterwards too. This is what Rapunzel would sing after Gothel condemned her to her miserable existence, mourning everything she could have had.
Damn..considering how much I got sick of Part of Your World growing up, I was not expecting to like it as much as I did.
Also, Beauty and The Beast sounded like something out of a War Film..

I've always been tired of musicals and it was made worse by how incessantly happy they insist you be. Consequently, I think these songs sound better than the originals.

Also I love it how Beauty and the Beast turns from a lovely romantic song to a kind of funeral march 🤔😅
So gloomy and hopeless
It struck me as despair and loss as well, like the singer is lamenting the Beast finding Belle. "I thought he loved me, but now he loves you. *resigned sigh* Tale as old as time, I suppose."
A Whole New World was already dark, this just reinforces that indefinitely.
I've discovered that minor keys are my favorite, they don't strike me as spooky, darker maybe, but just overall more interesting. Likely due to their rarity

Beauty and the beast minor plus the lyrics(just spoken) makes it sound like Mrs. Pots was talking about people dying. That is so creepy.

Why does everything sound better in a minor key? It's like minor has little teeth and hooks that grip your heart. Major rarely can do that. Only recently figured out why I don't like Mozart as much I should - he rarely wrote in minor keys. Entirely too cheerful for his own good!
I tend to prefer major keys, but I know what you mean. Minor has a sort of gravitas to it.
The best is when you have a mix of both! If you haven't heard it listen to Chopin's Ballade 1, it has a lot of dark sections, but the major key part in the middle is absolutely breathtaking too.
@@CoreyLennox True! That's one of my favourite pieces of music. Doesn't quite top op.48 no.1 nocturne in c minor, though, imo! It also has that major middle, it's like mourning followed by reflection followed by a nervous breakdown and then battered resignation. I think a lot of the nocturnes follow a similar pattern. There's a little pool of lyrical tranquillity in the middle of many, sandwiched by heartbreak. It's like he goes on holiday to Scotland halfway through them. 😁

Simba if he was raised by scar and goes insane, and kills his whole pride just to be king, singing to their skulls and puppeting them as if they were talking back to him (Zazu and Nala), relaxing back upon a stone throne gazing up into the cave's black abyssal ceiling, chuckling with a deep voice as the abyss stared back, his laughter the only voice in priderock.

I Just Can't Wait to be King - If Simba was kidnapped by Scar and groomed to be the key in Scar's usurpation plan.
Part of your World - It's revealed that Ariel is actually Eldritch being and her mere presence on the land causes insanity and chaos but it's all something she can't control. This is sung after she has to kill Eric in a mercy kill as the world falls around her.
Beauty and the Beast - Belle fails to kiss the Beast before the rose wilts and while they're still together, he's now permanantly a beast.
Tangled - I haven't seen the movie enough to get a good idea for this one.
A Whole New World - It turns out that the Genie is actually a malevolent "Monkey's Paw" kind of genie and he twists Aladdin's wishes for his own gain. This song is set to him finally being freed and planning to rule the entire world.
For Tangled... it would be Mother Gothel killing Flynn and taking Rapunzel to a dungeon where no one could rescue her again (her plan at the end of the movie!)
This is incredible!!! I think all it needs now are lyrics and you got a villain song for the heroes or maybe more sorrowful song for the villains……..🖤

I imagined the Beauty and the Beast one was Belle singing after beast dies and she's alone in the castle, Part of Your World was a version of Ariel whose home life was much more toxic so she wants to escape, and the Lion King One as Simbah being the ursurper in the story rather than Scar.
