What do you do when the gap between the door and frame is too wide? cut a piece of wood to narrow the gap or are there any spacers to fill in?
This has additional applications. My dad has dementia and this thing gives us peace of mind that he cant unlock the door and wander out at night.

I would recommend a normal slide lock for old people. People are more tense when they can't open it or see how the mechanics works. But looks nice.
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but would this work if you have crown molding on the door frame or does it have to be a flat surface?

I don't get it. How does it lock when closed? It appears to just open by hand... other similar devices have to be lifted up to open from the locked position but this does nothing of the sort. I know there must be something to it I just cant see what it is. From the look of it when trying to open the door it would just swing out of the way.
Don't know if this helps. You can see the person pushing it to the left before swinging it open. Push to left to unlock then swing out of way. Doors are not capable of doing that.
I t has a spring and a groove that locks it in.
That lock is on a flat surface. My doors have molding around them. What then? Chisel to flat surface?
You shouldn't have to chisel anything. The Door Guardian mounts inside the door jam where it is flat and the way it is made, when it is open it should clear any variations on the molding.

I put two on my front door frame that has molding. The slot and short screw is for adjustments.
No chisel at all....never even thought of using one.
It's a 10 minute job.
EDD mounted, let them come.

I'm not happy with mine, my advice is to buy a cheap chain lock, it does the same thing, the door guardian is over priced, and mine is hard to open, it's actually a problem! If I ever have a fire it will prevent easy access to escape. I wish I saved my money. I bought 2 of these and one of them won't even fit in the door jam unless i chisel the frame,
duh you gotta chisel a mortise . nothing , that's good in life is easy , don't be a lazy fool .you have a child to protect . it shouldn't be a problem to install this unless you're a useless person
So tell me after you get your front door installed and pay 3k for a nice solid wood door. Then take a hammer and chisel to it.

Lol sure bud . im a home owner and. HVe a nice home 3 bedroom 3 floors bi have. French doors and. 2 normal doors . i wouldnt pay 3k. For a solid door. .. Im a catpenter and would do that myself mill it from a slab . still wouldnt be 3k.. Have a good one
