Yuja Wang is not human. I just can't believe an earthling can do what she does. She is from some far off planet that sent her to earth to show us what is possible if we continue to evolve for a few more thousand years. Carry on, Yuja, we will catch up with you eventually..
@@kennethpiters6231 You may be right at that. One thing I notice about her is the musculature of her hands and arms. It seems different than most people.
@@throckmortensnivel2850 Its more the fast twitch capability of her musculature, perhaps transition time down neurons and across synapses, uncanny proprioception to know where and how to jump reliably. The things that go into that grab-bag called talent. But on top of that, an exquisite sense of musicality that comes from god knows where. I have been listening to great pianists for 70 years, and when I hear her it's almost shocking. She could dress as a nun and I would still be in awe.

Yuja Wang's pause before sitting seems an underpinning of her authenticity as a person and an artist: as an artist because it reflects an encore not previously rehearsed (although there's nothing wrong with that; Horowitz did as much); and as a person because she is unafraid to show her need to think about what she will play next.
It is nice that the young artist makes precious musical petitesses such as the Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka or the Variations on Mozart Turkish March by Volodos/Say/Wang or the Carmen Variations of Horowitz known to a wide and always happy audience. An excellent choice according to the interpretation of the Hammerklavier Sonata.
The pictures at the end linking to other videos....I mean...are people so afraid of loosing the attention of the viewers that they have to destroy the video currently running with links to new videos before the first one is done playing.
Another lot of mess....clear it up love or just try a slower pace ...u'l regain the control of melody and bring clarity to octave runs which are weak, subsequently unclear and sounds over peddled, adding more power...many parts of that sounds like a harsh typewriter at work ...ps, nice dress
It's deliberately meant to keep you hooked on and on endlessly on the platform. That's how people get addicted to their smartphone for hours and specifically kids.
Yuja Wang added two encores that she has often played before: a Mélodie arranged by Sgambati from Gluck’s Orfeo ed Eurydice and Nikolai Kapustin’s Toccatina, part of his Eight Concert Studies for Piano, Op. 40. Composed two centuries apart, and both extremely different, they represent the type of work where “you are putting out a lot of emotion”. However, one is still looking forward to the day when this phenomenal interpreter will devote less time to compositions with “exciting elements” and more to those “philosophical and psychological pieces (that) need to undergo a long-term thought process” (to quote the pianist herself).“ (bachtrack, 9/2021)

I was privileged enough to hear Horowitz perform his variations at Constitution Hall in DC when I was a young girl. I could not believe what I was hearing and was literally shaking. After the performance his wife Wanda Toscanini let me into the dressing room to meet him. I was like Cinderella at the Ball !
Oh my God! You can hear every melody wherever it is; including multiple times underneath a lot of other material! This is such a typical Horowitz arrangement. If you are a virtuoso, why not enjoy it:)
Here we see the difference between expressive passion and technique, and how both are vital to a great performance. For example look at how she plays around 2:54 - she literally punches that chord into the poor piano!
Just for her gorgeous and refined taste in dress and generous sincere smiles i already like the video even if she wouldn't play. But of course she also plays with mesmerizing technique and great musicality. She has so much to offer. She would be successful even if she didn't play the piano or played the piano and wasn't such an adorable and sexy woman to look at but she has both. She is lucky for what life has given her.
she even beats the legendary Argerich. Which I - as a argerich-loving boomer- relentlessly denied for years. But I now have to admit it, she is No 1 in the world. No doubt about it. Better is the enemy of good, as we say in german.
In theory, all pianists that play horowitz or cziffra pieces should play on the piano of the respective pianists to justify any comparisons in pianism. I enjoyed her performance though.

My sentiments exactly. If you play the piano, you know how utterly other worldly she is. Except, we will never catch up to her.

What I love her performance is how crisp and spacific each note is, beautiful
A great performance of a legendary transcription.

She's as bad as your spelling 😂
(respectfully offered) perhaps you mean "peerless"?

I totally agree. It’s infuriating. I hate them too.

Great music, stunning and rythmically brilliant, didnt realize Horowitz wrote these variations.
Horowitz famous 1968 Carnegie Hall Television Concert final encore,,,it is on TH-cam.

Just one word to describe her performance. Incredible!

Fun fact, the first time I heard her rendition of this piece was on spotify, and I did indeed think it was two pianos!

Wow! The piece sounds much better in this moderate tempo than in the hysterical tempo that she chooses at another concert.

She plays so much staccato that the main theme is lost in the percussion and scales, check Horowitz version, it is more musical and coherent.
