    With respect to Whistler: it was not built just for the Olympics; it has been there for decades. It was absolutely designed to look the way it does, as were a number of other BC ski resort towns.

      There is a colony of herons with dozens of nests beside the tennis courts in Stanley Park. Worth checking out between April-July to see the baby herons.

    An alternative to Capilano suspension bridge -- a little smaller but completely free of charge -- is Lynn Canyon suspension bridge.

    • @2ddw
      @2ddw 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Now here is someone who knows what they're talking about. Of course, you don't have the cliff walk, or tree top stuff but FREE. Oh, and the bridge is much more, how should one put it,... "thrilling".

    • @kayak2hell
      @kayak2hell 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed, Lynn Canyon suspension bridge is free and has a waterfall below and beside it. Also, the 45 minute loop from the suspension bridge to twin falls is a very scenic hike through a gorgeous douglas fir rain forest.

    As a local Vancouverite, if you want to go somewhere close for skiing, I recommend Mt. Seymour and Cypress, and not Grouse mountain or whistler.
    The reason is that whistler is a bit farther than the other three mountains, and for Grouse mountain, you are forced to rely on using the gondola to reach the very top or back to the bottom. The lines can get painfully long, sometimes taking around 1-2 hours at worst, even if it's at 10pm
    On the hand, Mt. Seymour and Cypress don't require you to use the gondola as all you need to do is to drive up to the top. But anyways, this doesn't necessarily mean that you shouldn't go to Grouse Mountain or Whistler at all since they are really beautiful mountains.

    • @the6ig6adwolf
      @the6ig6adwolf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@jaygray7102 What size screen are you looking at? Lost Lagoon (the dirty brown water) is in the middle left side next to Stanley Park pitch and putt. Canada Place can be seen in the shot, you can see where Davie meets Denman at the bottom of the hill. Harbor Tower can be seen....should I keep going? It's all there but I will agree that the shot is from an angle that isn't used often.

    • @jaygray7102
      @jaygray7102 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@the6ig6adwolf Yes, please go on and on and on because none of the things you say are clearly, or otherwise, visible...are. The muddy water (centre of picture) could be Lost Lagoon. What you're saying is...the causeway isn't in the picture at all, nor is Georgia St. The only thing I see that looks like it MIGHT be white sails are not clearly visible - I have to use my imagination to see them, they're barely poking above another building IF that's even what I'm looking at. I see something that could be the Harbor Tower but there's more than one city with a building that's virtually identical. Still don't see Davie or anywhere it's supposed to be connecting to Georgia. Guess people will just have to use their imagination.

      @@marcrchz No? What don't you like about, aside from the weather? ;)

    • @marcrchz
      @marcrchz ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CowboyBoomBoomSlim The weather isn't really the bad part at all. Vancouver looks shiny from all these videos, but the reality is different. One of the bad things is the infrastructure. The "downtown island" is a really tiny place, but there are cars and stroads everywhere despite so many people. There is hardly a place to relax outside as a human outside of waterfront or the beach. Cars have to go through everywhere, it's extremely loud and it stinks, the limited space is rather designed for cars other than humans. It's hard to walk through anywhere downtown without feeling stressed. The worst thing is probably the poor people. Vancouver is full of poor people and has a huge drug problem. There is this smell everywhere. East downtown is the worst area and you don't want to be there at any time of the day, but it's also outside. You see these rich immigrants who can basically buy a life in Vancouver by buying a permanent resident status if they are rich enough to invest half a million in a company, and they drive these loud luxury cars through the city while the poor and/or drug addicted people lay there. Any foreigner can also just buy property there, so things are crazy expensive and native people from Vancouver move away because they can't afford it. On that side Vancouver just feels like a playground for the rich foreigners and the poor watch it from outside. The people also seem very cold and not so friendly and happy as they tell you. Of course the city is build on foreigners wich isn't really a terrible thing at all, but i could barely hear english anywhere, and can't see much of that culture at all. That is why Vancouver might not be as great at all compared to any other european city.

      I really appreciate you sharing this with me. For the last few months I've been connecting with people, made and reconnected with valuable friends and tbh I find it more and more difficult to leave the country. Thank you for making a beautiful video of my beautiful city. It is a good introductory tour of Vancouver, covers all the must-see places. However it is misleading to say that it takes 4 hrs to drive to Whistler, it is only an hour and the half the most. You took 4 hours because you must have stopped at many places along the way. Taking a Sea-to-Sky gondola up the mountain, stopping at Shannon Falls or Whytecliff Park ? Horseshoe Bay ? Why do you think Whistler Village is "fake"? It is built for tourists, so it is full of restaurants, shops and many hotels. Yes, anyone planning to visit Vancouver must reserve at least 2 weeks, to see them all.

    I live here and it is is very good city. I like the rain and it does not get to hot or cold. I can’t imagine living in Calgary or Toronto with -15 in the winders or +40 in the summers.

      A Torontonian here 👋🏽. It doesn't last long. But every winter at some point it normally gets much colder than -15. It'll always hit at least -20 to -25 for a week or so each winter. I'm always jealous when I see the temp in Vancouver!

      It's a good place which is why it is more expensive to live here than Calgary or even Toronto. The non stop rainy days though are very depressing, especially in the winter with short day light hours.

      @@koonchan2241 it only became expensive before the olympics. My brother in law is an architect here and he told me that the Asian market destroyed all affordability when they put their laundered money into our market. In the 90's you could buy a house for under 300k, weather has nothing to do with it.

      @@lolamar6064 300k in the 90s is not the same amount as now. Laundered money or not, the government is interested in the money inflow and turned a blind eye on it. It is actually around 2013 or so that housing became expensive. Depending on how you look at it, if you have a property before that, you net worth would have doubled on paper.
