Dorothy must of had lack of faith, even towards Glinda not believing she could of went back to Kansas before she left munchkin land. That also included not believing the ruby slippers could perform such a miracle. Glinda allowed Dorothy to go thru the tough times in order for Dorothy to appreciate her life back in Kansas and come to the conclusion there is no place like home.
Such a classic! I was shocked and amazed to find out in 2010 that my 45 year old secretary had NEVER actually seen this movie! I couldn’t believe it! She had lived her whole life without ever once seeing this film. 15 years later, I’ll bet there are even more people who’ve never seen it! Especially with “Wicked” now out in theaters.
@@josephclegg3562 surprisingly enough, there are LOTS of people that haven’t seen it, or believe that it’s a cartoon from the 1970’s. Most of them are millennials or Gen Z.
This isn't the original. The original is a book written 39 years before this movie. Then followed many sequel books, a massively successful stage extravaganza, more musicals, toys, games, three radio series, and seven big-screen Oz movies, two of which were adaptations of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz." And for the record, there have been other adaptations of the book, but no remakes of this movie. 🙂
The original was in 1910 as a short movie and followed by a feature length movie in 1925, both silent movies. THIS version itself is a remake you cluts.
@@peterheimsoth159 Original as in MOVIE, not the exact original source. But this movie isn't even the first to be adapted. There was a version done in 1910 and 1925, the latter being a feature film.
Judy Garland was so memorable in this film and NO ONE could have played or sang it better! With the recent selling at auction of a pair of her ruby red slippers for 28M dollars Judy has an immortality that few in this world could maintain! Nearly a hundred years soon after this film was made Judy Garland will always be remembered!
Why Scarecrow doesn't say anything to Dorothy when she's saying goodbye?? Tinman and Lion said something but he doesn't, even when she told him she will miss him the most of all. Now that I know Judy and Ray Bolguer were close and love each other so much, i'm guessing he was so sad filming that scene that he was almost breaking in tears and didn't say a word, just smiled to her.
Really, it honestly paints Glinda as a little shady to me... Why not tell the girl eager to go home she could already go home? And she frames it as a journey of "self discovery". So I've decided to now call Glinda "Glinda the Mildly Okay Witch". She wasn't bad, but she wasn't as good as she claimed
Glinda would’ve caught these hands tf you mean I had the power to get home this whole time and you didn’t tell me cuz I wouldn’t have believe you 😂😂 girl she almost died 😂
She was never in any danger, because the shoes and Glinda's kiss protected her. Dorothy had some growing and learning to do, and without her journey, that would never have happened. Besides, it was all a dream.
Really... Makes Glinda seem a little shady that she withheld information and then made Dorothy go on a quest... Resulting in the accidental death of the Wicked Witch of the West and the Wizard finally leaving Oz, presumably leaving Glinda with full control of Oz

@@mysteriousbaloney622 and girl would've believed any way to get home! She believed Glinda enough to seek out a Wizard who turned out to be a fraud, so I doubt she wouldn't believe that the shoes could take her home

The one thing that has always bothered me about this story, is the celebration of death. Ding Dong the witch is dead. Like that's going to solve their problems.

I want to know - what happened to Toto, when Dorothy got back home? He bit Miss Gulch on the leg, and she was going to take him to have him put down. Maybe all was forgiven in the end?
Not many films are as perfect as this one. One of the all time great movies
U might want to hear the terrible behind the scenes of this movie
Yeah
I have seen the "Wizard of Oz" countless times, but I always shed a tear when Dorothy tells the Scarecrow, "I will miss you most of all".
Why?
@@gustavmielke777Because of her obvious bias and not thinking of others feelings!

One of the most special movie quotes ever:
“There’s no place like home.” 💓
It was a common saying, and a song, long before this movie. It's even in the book, which was of course published 39 years before the movie's release.
I love the entire movie, but l've always loved the ending more.
Incidentally, the tune of the song is playing just as Dorothy's waking up.
@@mikebasil4832 “I’ll get you, my pretty!”
“Toto, too!”
Amen to that, Dorothy. Amen to that.
A masterpiece of film/cinema.

I think it’s very sad…because the Wicked movie is not good at all.
The book is so much better then anything, even the movie, I read it in 7th grade and couldn’t put it down ❤
So many remakes of this popular classic have been made, but they will never beat this, the original.

One of the saddest scenes in film: when Dorothy has to say goodbye to her friends the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Lion.

@@dukeofglasgow9354 Both, in fact.
So is the film at the beginning and the end really in black and white or does Dorothy live in a black and white world?
I thought that was a damn dramatic way to introduce Technicolor to the movie audience. A lot of thought went into that one.
It's actually sepia, not black and white.
Kansas is described as grey in the books I believe so they shot it in black and white to emphasise it's relative lifelessness
Glinda the witch of the North
