I live in China. This person might care about their pet, but an average person here does not care about animal rights at all. Chinese people have just moved out of extreme poverty and it will take a while for most people here to not look at animals as a source of food or a status symbol. It is not that the Chinese people are lesser than others, it is just a case of setting priorities which we all do as humans.
