Thanks Jim, while we could muttle our way through this as we do most new things, it’s a pleasure to have a mentor to look things over and offer advice from someone who has “been there done that”. Full credit to my wife, honestly we had been looking at a few boats online. Amy grew up on the water with power boats and I grew up near all things mechanical. This ad had two photos of a sad boat covered in oak leaves sitting n front of an old garage. As she says we were COVID bored and decided to take a look, after all it was only 10 minutes from home. My experience is with cars, I’ve never owned anything fiberglass but I had a few ideas about good and bad. We looked the boat over and, well the hull and deck seem solid (no rust TeeHee) I didn’t see any thing that said set off alarms so Amy and I chatted and agreed that since the boat had been online for a couple weeks(the owner acquired it in a estate purchase, didn’t know what it was….neither did we…) we offered him a safe value that I knew I could recover from the trailer. As Jim indicates, the owner took it. After agreeing on the purchase Amy and I researched the VIN plate (again car experience) to realize these Catalina 22’s are kind of a thing…

Looks like the gelcoat is in good shape. If it's powdery, Jim will probably recommend buffing it out with a good buffer like a Makita 9237C and some compound. I just did that on my boat using TotalBuff rubbing compound and after sealing the job with Meguiars Marine Wax it looks almost like new. Have fun!
