1.31, on a simulator you have never been on, and then someone who works with it tells you that your time is close to what an F1 driver would do
I'd say that is quite an accomplishment
He was a champion in competitive league racing on the old F1 games, so it makes sense
Garden Yes, but Max's personal best in the actual car in qualifying for the British GP was 1:26.602, so still quite off the pace of the ultimate pace of the car, and I also doubt 1:31.xxx would be his personal best in the sim either (at least not with qualifying setup/mode).
Yes but that was with Party Mode and i mean if the guy said that it was close to max in a sim than that weights more than you thoughts tbh
TheJokerit19 but Matt just did a few laps... Max drives the car and in the simulator for the entire year
The "impressive" thing is having found an actually decent time in that short amount of time, it is harder than it seems (I tried something similar in an event with 50 thousand euros Assetto Corsa setup, which is actually far from the setup in the video but gives an "idea" of the context)
This is probably not the best lap time Matt could have pulled out, if he had spend more time with it, probably he would have reached a pretty nice best lap

Probably so that people don't get put off by the prices.
Much more important, there was a multipla!
Because the series is in partnership with esso, and they probably want people to focus on what they do with red bull, not their fuel prices. (thats my guess)

Corne 011 the graphics don’t really matter
Corne 011 unfortunately (or fortunately, considering the quality of the driving) simulators pushes much more on the physics side than on the graphics side
But trust me, the quality is incredible when you drive a very expensive setup like that

Yes rFactor Pro or something. rFactor itself only exists because of these sims. rFactor is basically a budget version of the sim software.
This looks great. They should open these simulators in many countries so that we all can get the jag of it.

there is obviously much more to it than a lap time in a sim, most of us can do good lap times in f1 2017 for example that doesn't mean you are as good as max or lewis....
But later you hear that he used too much fuel and got disqualified.

With the lap time of 1m31.38something you would've qualified dead last, but at least you got within the 107% rule (1:32.645 based on the fastest Q1 time). I'm confident I could at the very least beat the time of the 107% rule in this type of sim as well. BTW, they finally changed the steering wheel model from the old pre-2015 'butterfly shaped' version to the current 2015-present one featuring the LCD display.
I guess that they car was not on qualy mode, the challenge was for fuel saving, consider that on the race the laps were around that time (1:31.xxx)
That could very well be it. When the driver development engineer said ''Which is quite close to what Max would do in the sim actually'' I was a little surprised, and wondered how can he only managed 1m31s in the sim, which is around 5 seconds slower than his personal best in the actual car in qualifying (1:26.602), but I guess it was a reference to his lap times in the sim with similar setup to Matt's. I'd be surprised if Max (or Daniel for that matter as well) only managed 1m31s in the sim with qualifying setup as well.
TheJokerit19, Dan and Max probs use a lot less fuel per lap. Matt's quick, but I doubt he's professional race driver quick.
i know its a simulator not a video game but the graphics are so bad xd
I have to wonder whether the graphics are only a question of them not wasting time on developing better graphics or whether they would actually struggle for computing power had the graphics been better.
There is processing power out there to run pretty lifelike graphics on simulators so that is not an issue and they are only running 3 projectors. The projectors are also a limiting and expensive factor, from the breif shot I saw of them they don't appear to be high end sim projectors (I think they are Barco F22's). I would say it is down to evaluating time/cost and training benefit. Better to spend the money to get the sim as accurate to the real car as possible than to make it look good.
graphics are actually pretty decent. not last ps4 style but are from rFactor.
They can update it but instead more beneficial for the team to have the exact feeling of the actual car rather than worrying about aesthetics

Rubbish: not a single word on who made the sim or how, and very little actual footage of the game itself. Not really interesting.
If you really want to know, the sim is based on rFactor Pro. A version of rFactor that's so realistic it's used for car development and race training. Graphics are shit though :p

I thinking the main role of these sims is to train in the logistics of competing in a race, such as fuel, pits, timing, strategy, learning the course layout etc - rather than the actual driving of the car.

This is advanced level where everything is programmed to be close to the actual cars that the drivers drive.
How does rFactor Pro compare to the publicly available versions of rFactor?
Quite close with Max's times yeah right. I'm sure he's at least 10 seconds slower. Serious sim enthusiastic could be like 2 second slower maybe :D

rfactor and no vr headset? Pff would rather play at home with a rift and a sim that actually feels good like asseto or race room. rfactor is garbage
It's the Pro version. Used only for real world vehicle development and vehicle dynamics research like RBR researching setups for a race weekend. It's pretty safe to say you've not driven this sim. Only professionals and some lucky contest winning basterds have.
Edit: No it's not. It's rFactor, only with a heavily modified physics engine to fit RBRs needs. So probs nothing like the original, except its ugly ass graphics...
