How many miles does it have? I knew someone who had Green SS 454 that he bought brand new. He fell asleep at the wheel and crashed it into a moving train! He lived but the car didn't
I'm 45 and my first car was '71 Malibu. Swapped out the tired 307 for a lightly warmed over 350 backed with a TH350. Bench seat, 4 wheel drum, power steering and A/C. Ripped the dead air con out when I swapped the engine to save weight. I later planned to Vintage Air it before she decided she wanted to be a BBQ more than she wanted to continue to be my daily driver. Miss it to this day, but they're so out of range monetarily, I doubt I'll ever be able to own one again.
My first car, I was forced to buy, at exactly 16 years old, by my 28 year career Army Dad, was a $900, purple with black stripe 1973 Gremlin 232 6 cylijder auto. I told my Dad after almost daily getting into fights at school, that I was going to wrap it around a telephone pole if he didn't let me sell it. I used the $1000 I got for the Gremlin with a new $39.95 Earl Sheibs special paint job, and I than bought a $1000, black on black 1966 Chevelle Malibu, 327/375hp auto and went from being called not so nice names, to car wise, one of the coolest kids in high school. By the way April could pick up my 63 year old self in a YUGO! As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
My cousin had a 70 Chevelle with the 454. Black on Black but no stripes. He later had thin pinstripes added to the fender and body lines front to back with little flourishes at the tips. For the 1st two years he had it he drove it a few times a week but then someone tried to steal it out of his driveway and he cleared out his garage and the car lived there for the next 45 or so years. The only time it came out was for maintenance or the 4th of July. He fired it up. Came down the driveway and as soon as the front tires hit the pavement he let it rip. Always 10 minutes later he would be back and put the car away in the garage for another year. When he passed away his new wife sold the car before any of the family could even ask about it. She HATED the Chevelle but loved the fact that it was worth a boatload of cash which she got when it sold.
This was awesome, one of the best April's Garage episodes yet. That Chevelle was so clean, the knowledge you two have on these muscle cars is badass. It would be so cool if you could get your friend Dwayne to let you borrow his 911 GT3 for a future Saturday special.
Rock Crushers were developed for the higher-powered vehicles. And the whining sounds i hear are identical to the sounds i hear when driving my 66 GTO. I put a Rock Crusher in it back in 1984...
All the Muncie 4 speeds whether a m21 or m22 had somewhat of a whine to the gearset somewhat straight cut gears a dog box on the other hand in today's market is real straight cut gears and really make a lot of noise also no synchros in them and shifting is violent and very noisy ..
I talked my mom into buying a new '68 SS396 when I was 16 years old. Caught the fever bad and I have owned a '64, a '66 SS396 and a '69 SS396. Guess you could say I am a fan.

Dude and Dudess, I had a '69 396 SS. For about 3 months, I was 17, and the insurance I had, more than doubled when I told I bought this thing. The only cool thing about not having this car anymore, I sold it, after 3 months, for a little over 3 times what I bought it for. In the mid 80's This thing was THE CAR. Everywhere I went, EVERYWHERE, people wanted to buy it. If I parked it anywhere, it was always within my sight. Red with White Ralley stripes, Black interior and Cowl Induction. I put 2 sets of rear tires on it, in 3 months! LOL. Loved that thing but, could not justify the insurance as a High Schooler. It went to a good home, someone that was vetted by my Drag racing neighbor, and he still has it!

This was always at the top of of my wish list for looks and drivetrain - a Chevrolet musclecar Icon, had a 70-1/2 Camaro 4 speed but I liked the full frame cars much better
My old boss at the chevy dealer back in like 1999 went to Barett Jackson and came back with a 1970 Chevelle SS LS5 4 speed manual in that same color combo. Was an awesome car. He had it brought into body shop right away and had it totally redone to perfect.😊

It was hugger orange with white interior , the L78 375 hp motor, 4 speed. At that time it was a 3 year old car with 17k miles. This is my absolute favorite car. In a perfect world mine would be dark green, white stripes and a vynil top. Of course the LS6 and a four speed. :) Very cool video and even cooler car.
My dad had a 1968 Z28 Camaro RS (hidden headlights) and then got a 1969 396 Chevelle. I have had 7 Mustangs. 1980, 2 1992s, 2000, 2005, 2012, and then the 2015.
There should not be any real difference between one to the other as far as gear whine if so it had something wrong with it the difference between the m21 and m22 was a shorter span from one gear to the other in ratios for racing
@@GlennManchester You are confusing the M20 and M21 which are wide ratio v close ratio gear boxes respectively. The M22, also close ratio, is a straight cut gear design made to handle greater torque and new out of the box they are significantly louder than the M21 cousin.
My first car was a 10-year old beater 69 Chevelle with a 327 and automatic. It had sat in a driveway for a couple years but I got it running. I had to wire in a bypass switch for the starter and a manual choke control and the ignition switch was wore out so it could be started with almost any key. It was a filthy beats but I wish I kept it and cleaned it up. It wasn't really special but it could have been restored nicely.
Such a cool car my dad had a 1970 Chevy chevelle ss convertible 454 ls6 with Muncie 4speed with a bench seat cowel induction he had no idea how rare sold it in 80s missed the hype and huge house buying values
I took my driving test at the age of 16 in my mother’s 1969 Chevelle Malibu. It had the basic 350 engine, but the carburetor was badly in need of a rebuild. The car almost stalled while I was making a left turn, but I kept it going by keeping my left foot on the brake and hitting the gas with my right. When I let off the brake the car lurched forward, and I made the turn without stalling. But I got marked off for ‘lack of smoothness’ or some such thing. But there was a happy ending. The minimum passing score for the driving test was 70 and my score was a 71. I got my license, and I’ve kept it for the last 51 years.
April, We are all hoping that you help, guide, nurture, and support our Hoovie to make good decisions moving forward on this channel...😁(❤) Nice Chevelle, By the way. My oldest brother bought one in 1970. I don't know the proper name for the color, It was a light sage green, with a green vinyl top and white stripe package. And as a 9 year old, I was scared to death of it, but I also thought it was effing' awesome at the same time. That's my book for the day...
Slight correction here Tyler. In 1964/1965 a True SS will have the numbers 138 in the VIN. My first car was a 1965 Chevy Chevelle Malibu SS. A good friend of mine from high school had a 1964 Chevy Chevelle Malibu SS. And they both had 138 in the VIN's. I'm not sure when they stopped putting the 138 in the VIN.
Oh man, back in highschool a friends dad owned this in yellow and black stripes. He gave it to my friend and let us take it out, we had taken it to the city one night and it was just a day... Even pulled over and the cop let us go. Something about that experience , always makes me appreciate muscle cars from that era.
I owned a 1972 Chevelle Malibu 350 with Crager SS rims in High School through College. The biggest thing I remember is that the drum brakes all around were terrible. I would love to own your friends 454 beast.
Magnificent! Pure happiness. And its Black with white rally stripes, perfection. However, April is an amazing distraction, almost forgot there was a car there. Mmmmm...
We had a drag race between a 1970 Chevelle with a 454 and a 1968 Camaro with a 350 back in the 70's when I was in High school. The Camaro didn't want to race for obvious reasons. The guy in the Chevelle said he wouldn't leave till the Camaro hit 2nd gear. When he left, you could tell the Chevelle was going to catch him, and beat him in the 1/4 mile. Which he did. That was one of the fastest cars I ever saw.
In 1970, my uncle came by my parents home with a 454 Chevelle in a metallic blue-grey colour. I was six at time, but I remember it as "the car where the back end kept wanting to pass the front end." I know it was a 454 because there was a raised metal 454 logo on the dash in front of the passenger seat that I ran my finger along repeatedly, In my memory, it was a notch-back, but since they didn't make notch-nack Chevelles in 1970 or put 454s into the earlier cars, I'll put that down to the Mandella Effect. He stayed with us for a bit over a week, just long enough for me to fall in love with that car. Today I have a 1:18 scale die-cast model of a 1970 LS6 in approximately the same colour which my wife bought me as a pre-emptive measure, and I have promised never to have more 1:1 scale cars than I can drive in a week.
I owned a 1970 GM A-body for 31 years. They are simply right, in a whole lot of ways. Easy to drive, easy to fix, easy to modify, and uncomplicated. Solid engineering as well, and durable. At least mine had very high build quality from Flint. A 68 to 72 GM A-body is extremely popular for a reason. Not to mention GM Design was hitting it out of the ballpark with physical appeal.
My dad had one of these before I was born. Someone stole it, stripped everything off of it, and threw the body off a cliff, which ironically now sits right above the neighborhood I live in.
In high school in the early ‘70s. The bench seats were not as cool as buckets, but we called the bench seats s-o-b seats because all it took was a hard right and it was slide over baby
The El Camino version of this is even rarer. Grabber Orange W/Black stripe package, bucket seats, console and a 4 speed would be my particular choice...
I just looked and no one have done a syclone/typoon swap was like a Lutz development car . that is what you want for your king cab elky gnx tribute to truly be one of a kind
The 1970 SS LS5 (360 hp) with ZL2 option package (hood pins, cowl induction, racing stripes). The LS6 shares the same block as the LS5, being 427 c.i. stroked to 454 c.i. with a compression ratio of 11:25:1. A total of 4298 LS5 equipped Chevelles were produced in '70; 91 of them being convertible. The 454 LS6 also had the upgraded 800 Holley carb as opposed to the LS5's Rochester Quadrajet from factory.
My dad had ine of these. Worked a whole summer truck driving long haul from New York to California fast hauling ironically jet engines. He could get there in 3 days and that fot him a huge bonus. Then some old lady running late to a doctor's Appointment slammed into the side of it whike he was at a red light. She went up over the median and hit him doing about 35. Actually launched him out the other side of the car and into the grass. Then she tried to claim the accident was his fault somehow. My dad being a former USMC scout sniper was about to snap her neck when she came up yelling at him that he just stayed there parked when she came over the median, he could have moved safe,y past where she ended up. Like the mental gymnastics.....but ultimately she was given a ticket and then my dad got a 72 Barracuda.
The “rock crusher” was the Muncie M22 close ratio. It had the same close ratio as the M21 but the 22 had a different degree of gear teeth for 1st through 3rd gear. And 4th was the normal. Anyway the teeth change allowed it to handle much more torque but it did make the transmission have a distinct grinding or winding sound. Hence the name Rock Crusher. So if you notice the sound from the trans distinctly change from the first 3 girls than 4th then it’s a rock crusher. If it doesn’t then it’s an M21. But no one makes aftermarket 4 speeds with the close ratio gears of the M21 M22 muncie. 2:20, 1:64, 1:28, 1:00 are the gear ratios. It’s the closest ratio trans ever made by a manufacturer.
Love your enthusiasm about the car April but boomer paradise no it’s not. I’m an 80’s baby and that’s my dream car!! Down the the exact spec I would have it. I’d love to take it and just rip it through the gears!!! Might go with an automatic but it would be so fun with a manual. Keep practicing with manuals so maybe you can take it out and go on your own. I drive a manual daily but only learned about 2 years ago. Being stuck in traffic sucks but being able to get up and go is fun!!!
I look forward to every upload to Hoovies Garage and have seen every upload I think. Now to fill the gaps, we have this channel. Love y'all so much. Every car guy dreams for a girl like April. She could turn this gay car guy str8 for real! 🤣😍
April talking about an "iconic body" is funny to me. I'm also 60 years old so she would get my attention in this car. Honestly, difficult to focus on the car in this review. 🤣 I have a 1970 Chevelle LS6 w/an M22 tranny in this same color combination, which I think is the best. Having a pretty girl that's into muscle cars is also a great combination. I heard the 1st gear whine of the rock crusher so I'm pretty sure its an M22 (not an M21). Fun review guys.

My dad had a 1968 Z28 Camaro RS (hidden headlights) and then got a 1969 396 Chevelle. I have had 7 Mustangs. 1980, 2 1992s, 2000, 2005, 2012, and then the 2015.
Omg the most beautiful car in the world, my one true love car. Also I love the new hair April.
Great video!!! Keep up the great work you two & Jake!!!
That's the M21, the M22 "rockcrusher" is a howling banshee! I had the LS5 M22 El Camino, a wheel hopping turd that only my dentist liked!
Agreed. Had one and mine howled a bit more than that I think.
@@rsanford446 Yeah, those straight cut gears are anything but subtle jajajaja
There should not be any real difference between one to the other as far as gear whine if so it had something wrong with it the difference between the m21 and m22 was a shorter span from one gear to the other in ratios for racing
@@GlennManchester You are confusing the M20 and M21 which are wide ratio v close ratio gear boxes respectively. The M22, also close ratio, is a straight cut gear design made to handle greater torque and new out of the box they are significantly louder than the M21 cousin.
@@chele-chele ok my bad
Weird! it was about 28 seconds into the video until I noticed a Chevelle. WOW
What Chevelle? 😂
I am callin you out! 72 was the best year with the round taillights and the ribbed grill
Such a rad car!! That is right up there with your C2 Corvette.
Tyler's Dad was on playgirl lol. No wonder Tyler is such a stud lol. But damn he's a lucky guy
Saw 3 complete 70-72's 2 are LS6's today at my cousins shop and 6 more in different stages of restoration and 5 more 66-67's being restored. WOW.
Tyler, U Sir need to buy 1 of these to drive, they are Blast to drive.
When he left,
you could tell the Chevelle was going to catch him, and beat him in the 1/4 mile. Which he did. That was one of the fastest cars I ever saw.
Ford guy here, I would own and LOVE that Chevelle.
Awesome classic Chevy 💎Great video Tyler
Best car youtube couple in the history of youtube ❤❤🎉🎉🎉😂
"It has the iconic body" April Rose
The perfect person to say that!
Perfect timing too!
Second gen Camaro/trans am with a 383 and 4 speed is one of the most fun older gm cars. I have an 81 and its a blast
My fist car was a 70 chevelle. Red buckets. Pulled the 300 hp put in a built 396. 2 months later totaled it out while still in my teens. Sad day.
In high school in the early ‘70s. The bench seats were not as cool as buckets, but we called the bench seats s-o-b seats because all it took was a hard right and it was slide over baby
The bench seat had an advantage that bucket seats didn't have!
@@kickit59 I seem to remember that from high school, make a left and she slides right over.
Definitely an iconic body..... I guess April and the Chevelle are beautiful too. 😊
I'm 42, and the 70 chevelle is my dream car. Tyler, she's a chevelle girl. Put a ring on it. Those are rare!
Gen X here. Always loved the GM A body cars. Especially 68-72.
A 1970 454 chevelle or el camino are on the top of my dream car list
The El Camino version of this is even rarer. Grabber Orange W/Black stripe package, bucket seats, console and a 4 speed would be my particular choice...
A/C WAS.. and option on the LS5.. Just NOT.. the LS6.. The GM rule was No A/C on Any engine with Solid Lifters. :)
AND ( the M22 was still available on a 1970 Chevelle )..
The one exception was the 1972 LT-1 Corvette... solid lifters and A/C was an option.
Saw this exact spec with 4 miles on it, in a San Diego showroom 35 yrs ago. $25k!
Not true .
LS6 was a 4 bolt Main Block
Beautiful car!!
The 70 Chevelle SS 454 is definitely one of my favorite muscle cars of all time.
I seem to grow extra eyes when April is smoothing about…..saints above - Mercy April…!
The only transmission available with LS5-LS6 Your choice T-400 or an M22.
My dream car. I have a few Chevelles in my time but not this one. I will get one. I have to
Kudos to your producer's wardrobe dept April. Those leggings just added several hundred pairs of eyeballs, but you already knew that. ;-)
The chop is amazing.
Shes just as quirky as him.. Good match🎉
A lot of the time when you meet a woman and they’re trying to get close to you they pretend to be more like you than they really are a lot of this is just window dressing and acting trust me it’ll all come out once I’ve been in a relationship for five years.
