Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

Despite it's issues, the little bit of imperfect wobble helps to sell the effect. If everything was perfectly, rigidly locked together, it would look less like independent ships.

in real life formation flying would be pretty much rigid

I still want to see a 2v2 race where each member of the team is controlling a different vehicle but they're tied together with the power couplings. I believe the term is called a chain race, or something like that.
Oh and everyone has to build their own vehicle for the challenge without really communicating with their partner, so there's a chance that the vehicles perform wildly different.
Kinda like NASCAR where they push each other?

I made a neutron bomb with them, but you did care right? It's important to keep in mind, in general people don't know who you are unless they are your friends, and thus have no reason to care about your accomplishments. Don't waste your energy trying to show off to strangers, it good to be proud of your creations but you should know where to draw the line.

I have an idea, Get 3 people in Trailmakers, 1 person with a light tank, (9 movement power cores 100 blocks and 3 firepower power cores.) 1 person with a medium tank, (8 movement power cores 150 blocks and 4 firepower cores.) and 1 person in a heavy tank, (6 movement cores 200 blocks and 6 firepower power cores.) it would be interesting to see if one is by far more or less powerful... Maybe a good multiplayer Monday?

Challenge Suggestion (Day 5 i think)
Broadside Challenge:
Build dogfighting planes, however your weapons must be facing sideways. Bonus challenge is using gunpowder canons
In real life formations are in pairs, all modern fighters operate in pairs and squadrons are rarely used
I think a great idea for a video would be invisible jousting where you have power couplers set to invisible and have dynamite on your vehicle and you need to blow up the other person but you can’t see what’s happening until someone explodes
Hey Scrapman here is a fun idea
instead of cuplers use remote control using glitch ox gate and make a delay like .1 or .01 or something and do a battle
the delay is to make sure not to crash into your own squad but not strong enough to remove it completely
i think your idea of having different controls for each plane was the best decision because they get out of sync once they start getting damaged
Wonder how the couplings would affect the space train. Also need an add one vehicle every round challenge with the couplings.
When using mini guns, scrapman's planes resemble A-10s
Helicopters with floating propeller blades using the power couplings would be awesome to see!
honestly, independent controls is extremely useful because aslong as the plane your in doesnt break you still have full control. the other 2 planes could be gone but youll still have controllability to save yourself
You need to do this. 2v2 combat. One towing the other with the power coupling (low strenght so it acts more like a rope). The one being towed can not have any propulsion, and the one towing can not have any weapons. Win by destroying the opposing team or cutting the connection between them. You can use cars, planes or boats.

I had an interesting idea for a challenge with the power couplings: build some arresting cables, set them up on the carrier and try landing with a plane that has an arresting hook

this challenge with a lot more people is gonna be amazing.
what could fix most of the issues with pitch and having controllability on each plane still for pitch and roll would be changing the attachment of the flex put a tube on each side underneath the front to the same place on the back planes and doing that same thing with the back so youd have four flex total but the connections would make it more stables and keep all planes in line regardless of pitch or roll (no more flapping like a bird)
It seems that scrapman has forgotten about the existence of flap wings.
Also i realised that the reason why its hard to get a good shot is because the centre of mass was in between the planes!

Here's my idea. You have these, but now you and the guys each make a "bomber group" (4 bigger planes in a diamond formation with loads of weapons) player that does the most laps and bomb drops at target area is the winner

Make a glider but the controls are moved by using pistons, rotating servoes, and couplers to manually move the controls like the wright brothers.
All controls have to be powered by something on or near the cockpit

I have an idea for a version of this, have the wing man aircraft use a dampener gyro system to help them stabilize better.

I think you should do a spider web with those And maybe by applying pressure you could curve it end You should also try to make a slingshot.
The really bad near-crashing wobble at the start is an accurate recreation of if I was one of the pilots
You could have added power couplers connecting the main wings of the 2 back aircraft (10:58). Or a power coupler extending from the central aircraft to the power couplers connecting the back of the 2 rear aircraft. There are a number of solutions to the stability problem I think, you just gotta look for possible connection points. Still, the triangle (10:30) was actually one of the better ones. Triangles are geometrically one of the strongest shapes.
The flex when you pitch up is g force. Pulling -g has a 1g delay and therefore is less immediate acting to flex the wing(planes)
Dampen: To make moist.
Damp: To reduce vibration or oscillation.
Scrapman you should recreate the space train concept that failed before, now with power coupling. To deal with the train twisting, you can put 4 power coupling connections per train car

Turns out Scrapman's fleet did have redundancy. It was just built into each plane rather than shared between them.

Is it possible? Idk.
The problem is: when you pitch, the front of the plans goes up, and the back of the plane initially goes down. This way, when you conect the tail of the front plane with the nose of the back planes, you cause wave effect. You need to conect front to front in order to make the wabble better
Linked Flying course? Two/more planes tethered with loose couplings, each with their own controls? Might be rather difficult after figuring out just how chaotic they can be with physics, but maybe?
That went way smoother than I thought it would.

I wonder if the sensors can detect the invisible connectors… if they can, you could use logic to change its control schemes depending on which planes are remaining. I know it’d be hard and complicated to do, but it’d be suuuupper cool to see.

I just realized you don’t even need sensors, you just need logic gates that power into each other in each plane that when each plane is destroyed, they change the controls.
To potentially solve the wobbling, you could've tried using logic and detachers to make it to where each plane is independent. Don't know if it would actually work though
Now we need a fleet of space ships. A mother ship, and like 2-4 support ships or whatever.

Imagine the power couplings just going spaghetti mode while they were fighting.
What you could have done is connect the rear planes by the top of the rudder, so the upper connectors cancel out the bend of the lower connectors
If you added power couplers perpendicular to the existing ones, then it would've counteracted the change in momentum coming from the two back planes, which would have eliminated the wobble effect.
use this formation idea but with cars, do a convoy style car with attackers trying to stop the convoy from reaching the end (airborne map)
same issue you had with the rope bridge, you need "ropes" going the other way too, make a grid. you have support left to right, but not forwards to back, no wonder it flexes front to back

how has nobody noticed that triangles are gods when it comes to structure. look at any bridge ever built and you can find triangles

You should do a battle using wrecking balls connected with the power couplers on planes

This would be cool with the transformation feature where you make a small power core creation and each time you get destroyed you respaen eith the next creation that has more and more complex creations so hopefully by the end most people will be in the best creation
The fact the building took up over half the video shows how difficult these can be

( future video idea) 7:47 .The way the couplers moved. it kinda resembled a bird flapping wings. maybe there could be a way to make a bird. using the couplers
I feel like a vertical triangle would have worked better. When flying head on, your center of mass would be the empty space in the middle, and there would be less chance of a rear gun hitting the lead plane.

What you should have done is set to the power couplers nose to tail with three planes in a straight line and hinges on toggles for left and right echelon.
You can take off and manoeuvre in a trail formation, switch to left echelon for shooting to the left and right echelon for shooting to the right.
The wobblyness could make for a awesome bird build.
A tranformer battle could be epic!

How about having a 4-way battle using the Cylon light fighter from Battlestar Galactica. The one with the forward-swept wings.
Since they were built for space, I'd like to see how you guys figure out the aerodynamics and control surfaces/thrusters for atmo.
Believe me, if the build mechanics behave like I think, thruster-roll and/or pitch will throw you for a loop.
You should do a plane battle, but the wings are attached with power couplers.
