    People in India stare at foreign girls and boys(also) It's not because of sex or rape intention but curiosity towards other ethnicity : how they look different.People here even look at Asians, africans.
    because people here seen european americans only in Hollywood superhero movies that's why i think.

      Your comment is more comparable with people in China. India, on the other hand, has been open to the world much longer. And has much more exposure to westerners so I can't agree with you completely that it's about curiosity.

    I feel your video is more applicable to rural areas and villages. Because in metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore etc women pretty much wear anything and everything we like. I'm an Indian myself and I don't have any restrictions on what I wear. In the cities, our dressing sense is very similar to Western dressing. We wear skirts, shorts, dresses, tank tops, halter, backless, crop tops and what not. I'm from bangalore and all the people I know dress up in a liberal way. But yes if we do go to a more conservative place, or a temple or any rural area then obviously Indian clothes or jeans or something more conservative would be the norm. But this video does not apply to all the cities in India.

    Wearing short sleeves is not a problem. Also, anything but a low-neck works even without scarf. You’ll see plenty women who wear what they like especially in cities, and it’s rarely a problem but because you’re already a tourist, best you go safe (safe & comfortable are not oxymoronic lol). I, as an Indian woman who wears ABSOLUTELY what she likes, would still suggest you to not think too much. Loose short sleeves t-shirts & baggy pajamas are the best for the climate & ofc v v comfortable! Great video tho.

    • @ramlalsaha1947
      @ramlalsaha1947 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheWorldnUs yeah it's kinda conservative but so much like those middle East Asian countries. You haven't any strict restrictions about clothes. But people and society will criticise you if you wear revealing clothes and sometimes these can make you feel uncomfortable. And also Indian weather also don't support revealing clothes because you wil get tan in sunlight. Moreover if you have white skin tone.

  • @tulika_9519
    @tulika_9519 6 ปีที่แล้ว +46

    I belong to a small town of India. Still i can wear sleeveless & starp tops. But not too tight & low neck cut because the weather doesn't allow me. I don't want my skin to get more tanned. I wear knee length dresses too & it's not at all a problem in India. But if I go to a temple & a village are..I wear traditional cloths. Infact most of the Indian women prefer wearing traditional cloths only because we love it..not because these are imposed on us. So most of the things you said were correct but not everything. Infact I never cover up my head when I am in any temple because I am not a married girl.

      From an Indian perspective it is ok to wear short revealing dresses in Cities. While you travel in towns and suburbs its better to cover up since people will stare at you. And if you go to villages it is a big no no to wear revealing dresses, the villagers are quite brutal and straight forward in their criticism about not meeting their conservative standards.

    It is simple.
    Cover your shoulders and knees and avoid skin tight clothes in most parts of India.
    Mumbai you can experiment a little and in Goa wear what you want.

    • @sushmitharavindra5659
      @sushmitharavindra5659 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      this is not true at all.
      You don't have to cover your shoulder, or knees or wear baggy clothes in India.
      Just wear decent enough to go out on the streets.

    • @aman5428
      @aman5428 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sushmitha Ravindra
      That advice is for foreigners who don't want to get attention from people.
      Otherwise you can wear anything in any part of India, there is no official dress code in place.
      If you don't cover your shoulder and knee, you might get stared a little. So it is more of a precautionary step.

    All those Indian people who say that 'India is not a conservative country/you can wear whatever you want' - I think you are forgetting who Aly's audience is. Her viewers are usually people who travel alone (or in pairs) on a budget. It means that we are not staying In 5 starts hotels, don't limit our India experience to going to 'posh' places only such as theatre or some rooftops bars (someone mentioned this example below), we want to get a better feel of the real culture so we go to a food markets, walk downs the streets, travel to more rural parts of India. Also, I am a white woman and I always, without a fail, when travel outside of Europe attract people's attention no matter what I wear. So wearing modest clothes is a very smart thing to do as it gives me a chance to be a low key traveller.
    You don't put yourself in western traveller's shoes but instead, get offended for no reason and post stupid comments just to make yourself feel better. Being conservative does not mean being retarder or outdated or not developed - stop taking it so personal and look for a moment on what's around you. Giving comments that western women can wear in India shorts and tank tops can be very dangerous.
    I see those types of comments under so many videos that in a very gentle and respectful way describe Indian culture -seriously get a grip!

I did wear a sleeveless dress but it also went to my knees so it wasn't revealing or inappropriate. My friend told me to just wear what I normally wear in Canada but I think he just knew I don't ever wear revealing or scandalous clothing haha.

You can wear any dresses in metropolitan cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Agra etc. Nobody will stare at you for very long time. Though, you may need these stuffs if you go the rural areas of holi places like varanasi, mathura or rishikesh etc..

    I'm a big fan of your videos. And if you're planning on visiting India again, do visit the North East India. People from the mainland India doesn't know many things about this region. Its mainly a hilly region with a beautiful natural beauty. The food, culture, people are completely different from what you experienced from your first visit. More than 200 tribes lives in the north east . In Assam, we've got Kaziranga national park, it has largest population of one horned rhinoceros. And Rakh mahutsav ( it's a kind of festival happens in October or November ) in Majuli , bihu dance , Satria dance are few things you should experience while you're in Assam. You should visit Tawang in Arunachal. It has the Asia's largest Buddhist Monastery. And I can't describe about the Arunachal's natural beauty. It's almost heaven. Nagaland is the home of the famous head hunters ( they used to collect heads but they left that practice years and years ago. So don't worry). The hand woven shawls by the different tribes of Nagaland are legendary. And they are rich in natural beauty. You got to have one. In Meghalaya, we have Mowlindon(don't know if I got the spelling right) Asia's cleanest village. Then Mowsynram, world wettest place. In Mizoram you can visit Phawngpui Hills. Sikim also offers a great amount of natural beauty. Just visit Gangtak, Darjeeling. Tripura also provides a lot of things. And if you think dresses from the mainland India is good, just wait till your eyes rest on the hand woven traditional clothes. I guarantee , you will be blown away. Mahatma Gandhi, (if you know who he is) one famously said , the weavers here can craft dreams in hand looms. And I can't brag enough about the food here. You can literally have a different food 3 times a day, and you'll be nowhere near finishing everything in 365 days ( Not spicy also. Oh did I mention, north east India is the home of the hottest chilli in the world, the Ghost chilli or Poison Chill. ) Its like a totally different country inside a country . It not as much develop as the rest of the country , so you might not get highest level of accommodation, but the nature here is very much virgin. Just watch few videos of north east India here on TH-cam, and yeah, welcome to India

    Um, wait is this video meant for rural India and villages? I'm confused?
    I've been staying in India for the past 30 years or so and trust me Indian women don't have any restrictions on the clothes we wear. I hardly wear Indian myself expect for temples and stuff, other than that I mostly wear modern clothes, short dresses, low cut tops, tanks etc! you get the drift.
    You shouldn't be making such a video if you haven't spent more time in India and without making an effort to explore THE ENTIRE COUNTRY. Just visiting a few shady, down trodden areas (yes I've seen your vlogs) even the places where you stayed at were cringey and shady, doesn't give you a true picture about the other side of India. Dont make generalizations about clothing when you haven't even visited any modern urban areas or localities.

    I'm a foreigner living in Mumbai since 5 years. Enjoying the luxury to be able to wear whatever I please. Though I must say I am not the age anymore to even want to wear shorts or mini skirts/dresses XD. They are super normal for young girls in many parts of Mumbai though.
    Around my area and for everyday errands I wear kurtis and leggins just cause it's insanely comfortable. For Bandra, Juhu, town (aka Churchgate) and malls I go for western clothing though I won't go for low cut tops (mostly I go for girly cut t-shirts or blouses).
    In Mumbai I never wear scarves/dupattas except for functions (bigger poojas or weddings) cause else the outfit won't look complete. Else I just don't cause I am super clumsy and keep tangling the dupatta in stuff or having one piece drag on the floor hahaha...
    You don't need to even when visiting a Mandir (temple), only if you visit a Mosque or a Gurudwara (Sikh temple) you would be required to wear one.
    I do wear a scarf though when traveling long distances in trains or going more rural places where people might be more conservative. Just nice to be able to cover up a bit when you feel it's more appropriate.

    Nice and informative video for those who are travelling to India........And yeah, not all places are same in India regarding dressing......SOME places do allow wearing western clothes without much trouble, and SOME don't.............and like she said, it's good to be always ready.........And most people stare at foreigners because they are curious and don't see foreigner everyday.........For example, you will have a look at a lambo in a place where there are normally shit cars roaming........and also you will stare at a trash car in a place where everyone has a ferrari...
    Hope U won't feel weird when visiting India from now.....

    In small villages of india and small cities , people don't allow girls to wear any short cloth.only rich people wear these kind of cloths . When i was 12 years old , i saw a girl wearing Western cloths and i asked my mother ,i have to wear these kind of cloths , she said ,no you can't wear .
    I can wear shorts in my room but noone allow me to go outside with those clothes.but one day i went outside , a woman said me ,hey how can you go outside like that.
    Here a female is interrupting another female ,not a male
    I did not go to fresher's party of my college because dress code was a short dress
    This mentality of indian society should be changed

    How's your rib pain? Some quick fixes for the health problems when you find yourself in situations like the airport where you had to haul your luggage, or when you don't have access to medicines: For any bone-related pain, or pain in muscles holding any bones, just touch the tip of your middle finger to the tip of your thumb...as tightly as you can. The pain should subside and the problem could also get resolved without medicines or doctors within 5 mins to a few days' time, depending upon how much damage the bone or the surrounding area has suffered. I once slipped on a staircase and hurt my last vertebra so bad that I couldn't even lift myself up to a standing position. I sat there for 20 minutes doing this hand gesture and I never had to go to a doctor or take a medicine.
    Similarly, if you get an upset stomach, diarrhea, or something like that, just press the tip of your ring finger to the tip of your thumb and walk for around 15 minutes keeping your fingers like this. No matter how grave the situation is, 15 mins is all it takes to cure such stomach related problems. Again, no medicines and doctors. I once suffered from my worst upset stomach when I traveled to another city for a marriage. It was embarrassing for me to tell someone to take me to a doctor or even a pharmacy (medicine shop). I did this hand gesture and walked for 15 minutes and I got completely cured. This was my first experiment and experience with "Mudra (hand gesture) science" (an ancient Indian health solution like Yoga) and I was surprised with the results. You can find all Indian statues in temples and caves doing various such hand gestures.
    You can do these finger arrangements on one hand or on both hands. If you want faster results, do it with both hands. Try these two and see if they work for you. It isn't going to cost you anything and it has no side effects either, so why not try? If this "therapy" works for you, reply to my comment and let me know. I will tell you what to do about cough and cold too. :-)

    Just because multiple generations co-existing at same time doesn't make Indian culture conservative. I live in Delhi and girls wear shorts and skirts all the time. I don't blame you because as a tourist what you experienced do make sense, because that's what indian streets are full of hawkers, beggers, other tier 2,3 cities immigrants. You should've visited few pubs in Delhi, girls wear whatever they like. I have watched other videos also and feels like any one from a different culture needs to spend considerable amount of time in a country they are visiting to get to know the whole story. I work in a MNC and there are clients visits from US, UK, France. They spend much time with urban working class Indians and attend office parties. Their experience differs.
    All in all, I love your videos. Keep Rocking
    All the very best

    What she said is completely true, may be large population in cities don't care about a girl what she wears which is good, but there is a section of society including women who stares at a women based on her dress. The worst thing is even some women criticize the victim if she fall in to some trouble for the dress she wears or for the time she was outside. The vlogger could have explained this subject in any manner but she choose the positive side which is appreciable. As Indians accept the fact and try to behave better to the visitors regardless of their country or states from which people come.

    Only Sikh Gurudwara you need scarf for head cover.
    We use scarf because in India bright sun light.
    In northern India there is sand and dust. So use scarf from dust.
    Otherwise as a hindu we never force to cover head.
    Because we born naked.
    Our hindu god accept as we are.

Store free helpline number in your mobile of police ambulance etc. If someone behave badly with you or try to harass you shout loudly for help, people will help you immediately, if don't know something or puzzled about some places ask people freely most people understand english and will help you

    Hey lady first of all big thanks for sharing your honest opinion and thoughts I appreciate that, but I would like to mention that India is not so conservative, there's no certain norm about any dress code unlike the Arab or Islamic countries. Here women can wear anything they like to, no one can stop them, but women who wears decent clothes can roam more comfortably and inviting less stares from stalkers, it's not that women who wear short get less respect from society, its just an stereotype of indian society that concludes, short clothes = suspicious character. But everyone can wear anything except roaming nude, that's not allowed in India. And by decent clothes I don't mean only indian clothes, rather jeans and top are the most common attire for women's here, around 70% women in my area wears that only, just a thought that wearing too short clothes like mini skirt or shorts looks bit disgraceful according to our culture but we value and understand everyone's culture too, we know westerns wear shorts there, so its normal for them, that's why we take it easily, we know its common in west.

    The dressing is different I'm South & North India. In South India, cover up, I wear short sleeves tops (loose top not tight) with long pants. Whereas it's different in the North. But best to cover up, it's to protect yourself, respecting the Culture & Traditions & not get harassed as well. It's one of the BEST ways to protect yourself.
