*Great product. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend I have never used a baitcaster before and did a lot of research before buying this one. I bought it with the Torrent casting rod as well and it works very nice.*

I am an avid fisherman and reel a spinning reel 'backwards'. The eyelets are facing up and you cast with both hands where it is kind of like a bow and arrow motion. I know how to reel and cast both ways very well. I tend to keep the reel side up because you can detect what the line is doing from the spool to the end of the bait more than if it were facing down. People might think you are crazy or dumb fishing this way but they are wrong. You usually know if a fish is on by rod tip action but when you have the spin caster facing up you are really looking for the very subtle bites almost undetectable with the rod tip. Fishing by observing the line more precisely is good when wacky worming for bass. The reason being is that bass will bite your bait on the fall and you really need to pay attention to the line instead of rod tip. If the fish eats your bait with slack line by the time you notice the rod tip move the fish may have spit the bait out.

I would love to see an instructional video about how to work top waters, jigs, soft plastics etc! I have so much fishing equipment but I think my technique is what really needs to be upgraded.

You are correct.. It's 50% if not more about working the lures once you are on the fish. If the fish is not in a frenzy(eats everything and supper aggressive) everything needs to come together to have a good bite on artificial lures. Retrieve, angle, depth, action, speed, etc. I will make a video once I get clear up some time the next couple weeks.

this is a very good video. i fish with baitcasters, spinning rods, my big cat round reels. once you learn how to cast, they're pretty much all the same in technique. some variations tho with your baitcasters, i.e., pitchin, flippin and so forth. but safety is always important! thanks for the vid. i learned some tips here.

Sam, don't forget ... closing the bail by hand, then a little tug on the line to be sure you are tight to the spool ... no loops, and the bail spring will last a much longer time. Ya gotta do it fast when sight fishing. Oops, I see that Unitaper already covered this.

Good info...one thing that doesn't fly however is not reeling your leader through your guides(At least when using braid). That is absolutely necessary when using longer leaders. Especially the braid-mono/fluoro connections. All you have to do is use an appropriate knot....like the best braid to leader knot there is, the FG knot. If there is a swivel involved(needed for lures that spin)...ya don't reel through, that is murder on the guides.

Every time you think he's about to give you a useful piece of information about how to cast a spinning rod, he frustrates you with another minute of BS, before he gets to it. Fast-forward to 2:00. Cut about 75% of the verbiage out of this video, and it would be tolerable. Ended up moving on to another video out of sheer frustration.

I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well th-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

Shorter doesn't translate into accuracy. Trust me. I do a lot of fishing. A lot of time it is b/c of your rod. Some rods will allow you to make those accurate throw over and over...and what I mean by accuracy is putting it in your hand or right off the bankline. If you know what I mean. Sometimes the lure makes you accurate too.

3:00 minutes in and I’m still waiting for you to show me how to cast a spinning rod accurately. - [ ] - [ ] Your finger should never touch the line. The bail (as mentioned) is down when you open it. Your finger should be touching the edge of the front of the spool to keep it from moving. You release your finger from the spool to control line feed, put you finger back on the spool to stop line feed, very similar to a bait casting reel. Your finger should never touch the line. Try this I think you will like it.to control line feed, put you finger back on the spool to stop line feed, very similar to a bait casting reel. Your finger should never touch the line.
