I recall this happening on Dawson’s Creek, Skins UK and a lot more of shows. It was a common trope and everybody thought it was normal and cool to watch it.
I used to love them, until I realised how messed up it is. I used to justify it saying she convinced him but nope abuse of power so messed up. I love Jake and I really wish the show explored that more o loved him he was so sweet!

Spencer and Toby were done so dirty at the end of the show, the only couple we didn't actually see get back together who deserved it the most of how much both of them were put through as a couple and individually. We could've at least gotten one last hug from them when Toby knew it was Spencer and not Alex. Not to mention Toby got the least amount of screentime out of all the other guy main love interests and was never made a series regular like Caleb and Ezra were. Spencer deserved a better ending in general as well.
Yes, I thought it was weird how there was just one line at the end about Spoby reconnecting and taking things slow but we don't see Toby. I wonder if the actor was unavailable for filming of the last few scenes of the show so there wasn't any ending scene of Toby and Spencer. Though I do think the show was right to have them reconnect slowly and not rush straight back into things as Toby and Spencer just went through a lot with Alex Drake pretending to be Spencer around Toby and sleeping with him (which he didn't consent to as he thought she was Spencer) and torturing Spencer. But it would have been nice to see them hug or something at the end to show they were heading back on track
honestly, spencer had the hardest life. I totally think that A gave emily or hanna the hardest time, but spencer always had something going on I mean at home, school, anywhere she went.

I have a theory that when Mona said the liars took Hanna from her, that her and Hanna were best friends before she became part of the liars group. I think when Alison stole Hanna away from Mona, that was the spark that started her down the 'A' path. I think the show did Mona dirty too because after she got help, she saved the liars asses so many times, yet they never gave her the time of day after. All she wanted was to become their friends, but they all shot her down over and over.
i wouldn't rank ezra/aria that high, but i understand in a way. the bar is on the floor for inappropriate relationships so in comparison, with the way the show pushes them so hard, it successfully makes me forget how creepy it all is sometimes - and they get so many scenes together that they have more good scenes than most of the age-appropriate couples. i was also completely brainwashed as a high schooler watching the show even though i knew it wasn't right, which probably has a lot to do with how close in age the actors are....

I wish Arias's love interest post-time jump was Riley. Maybe they reconnected post-graduation. I think if Riley had gone home with Aria and watched her and Ezra interact he could’ve put things together and realized he was the one who broke Arias heart in high school. I also feel like his vibe seemed more laid back so I could see Riley suggesting they break up because she still has feeling for Ezra but also pushing Aria to confront the fact that their (A+E) relationship wasn’t appropriate.

They were one of the most fleshed out and longest couples so I get why it’s so high even though it’s a disgusting relationship. Like it’s hard to compare that to the relationships that were thrown in the plot whenever convenient and/or just bad chemistry but personally I’d knock it down a bit more

I’m including Holbrook, Ian, Ezra, Jason,Melissa (more as a baseline), dr. A, wilden, and rein. This highlights the year gaps. FYI all the liars are 15 at the start. From smallest to largest this is an approximation based upon info throughout the show. Jason- 6 years he’s one year younger than Melissa Melissa-7 years Garrett- 8 years (one year older in school than Melissa) Ian- 10 years (he was a senior when melissa was a freshman) Rein- Based upon understanding the British school system he is 2 to 3 years older than melissa so 9-10 years Holbrook- went to school with all of NAT or whatever it’s called so 8-10 years Wilden- I cannot remember if he was a senior or a freshman in college when Ian was a fresh so 13-14 years making him 28-9 in season 1 Dr. A is probably only 5-6 years older based on him only being a doctor for a few years Ezra- seems to be the same as Melissa so 7 possibly 8 years. Toby is one grade higher so one year older. Jenna is actually the same age as Toby but was held back.

My number one definitely is Aria & Jason, they were perfect together and had the best chemistry in the show by a mile. I also liked Hanna & Caleb, imo they are the only original couple that should have ended up together. Emily and Maya were cool but I have soft spot for Emily & Samara. Never liked her with either Allison or Paige. Probably unpopular opinion but I never cared about Spoby. I don't really mind them together but would preferred her ending up with either Dean or Marco. The only reason I got interested in this ship was because I know Miranda from a different show and I wanted to see what other roles she played.

Haleb is very good, i haven't negative things to say, maybe they could avoid the plot of caleb in ravenswood, but for the rest is very good. Emaya is better for me, but it's my preference. I have a theory that when Mona said the liars took Hanna from her, that her and Hanna were best friends before she became part of the liars group. I think when Alison stole Hanna away from Mona, that was the spark that started her down the 'A' path.
I think the show did Mona dirty too because after she got help, she saved the liars asses so many times, yet they never gave her the time of day after. All she wanted was to become their friends, but they all shot her down over and over.
i wouldn't rank ezra/aria that high, but i understand in a way. the bar is on the floor for inappropriate relationships so in comparison, with the way the show pushes them so hard, it successfully makes me forget how creepy it all is sometimes - and they get so many scenes together that they have more good scenes than most of the age-appropriate couples. i was also completely brainwashed as a high schooler watching the show even though i knew it wasn't right, which probably has a lot to do with how close in age the actors are....
love how you put ezra and ali at 71 even though he broke up with her after he found out her real age but put aria and ezra at number 6 when he fully knew her age,was his student,and manipulated and lied about not knowing her age at first when he admitted later he fully knew, doesn’t make sense.

I wish Arias's love interest post-time jump was Riley. Maybe they reconnected post-graduation. I think if Riley had gone home with Aria and watched her and Ezra interact he could’ve put things together and realized he was the one who broke Arias heart in high school. I also feel like his vibe seemed more laid back so I could see Riley suggesting they break up because she still has feeling for Ezra but also pushing Aria to confront the fact that their (A+E) relationship wasn’t appropriate.

They were one of the most fleshed out and longest couples so I get why it’s so high even though it’s a disgusting relationship. Like it’s hard to compare that to the relationships that were thrown in the plot whenever convenient and/or just bad chemistry but personally I’d knock it down a bit more
that's part of the issue, though. Personally, 13 year old me was IN LOVE with that relationship, and that caused some really bad shit for me, and I'm guessing that happened to other people, too.that's exaclty why they *shouldn't* be so high

Spoby is my fav too. They have such sweet scenes especially in season 3 and their chemistry is incredible. I also love emily and maya, aria and jason, aria and ezra and spencer and alex( that dancing kitchen scene so cute )

As much as it is shit that Ezra and Aria are in the top 10, I agree it was a very creepy relationship, however they way Lauren seems to be ranking the couples it's virtually impossible to rank them any lower than they were ranked due to how obsessed the writers were on shoving their rank relationship down our throats and how bad they wanted us to believe that they were good together
I tried to figure out the ages too based upon what I could figure out based on logic, which is flawed by the very nature of the show. I’m including Holbrook, Ian, Ezra, Jason,Melissa (more as a baseline), dr. A, wilden, and rein. This highlights the year gaps. FYI all the liars are 15 at the start. From smallest to largest this is an approximation based upon info throughout the show.
Jason- 6 years he’s one year younger than Melissa
Melissa-7 years
Garrett- 8 years (one year older in school than Melissa)
Ian- 10 years (he was a senior when melissa was a freshman)
Rein- Based upon understanding the British school system he is 2 to 3 years older than melissa so 9-10 years
Holbrook- went to school with all of NAT or whatever it’s called so 8-10 years
Wilden- I cannot remember if he was a senior or a freshman in college when Ian was a fresh so 13-14 years making him 28-9 in season 1
Dr. A is probably only 5-6 years older based on him only being a doctor for a few years
Ezra- seems to be the same as Melissa so 7 possibly 8 years.
Toby is one grade higher so one year older. Jenna is actually the same age as Toby but was held back.
they kind of mess up the timeline for this though, especially with jason. when cece says she met him at rosewood high the year before ali disappeared. that would make him only 3 years older, but wouldn't make sense with melissa's age etc. the writers basically have no consistency.

I think technically there's no way you could consent in that situation because 1. it's extortion and 2. the officer is in a position of power but Aria and Ezra is automatically worse because she's a minor and his student.
My number one definitely is Aria & Jason, they were perfect together and had the best chemistry in the show by a mile. I also liked Hanna & Caleb, imo they are the only original couple that should have ended up together. Emily and Maya were cool but I have soft spot for Emily & Samara. Never liked her with either Allison or Paige. Probably unpopular opinion but I never cared about Spoby. I don't really mind them together but would preferred her ending up with either Dean or Marco. Aria and Noel were super cute, shame they made him in a villain with zero logical motivation lol And yeah the book should definitely have been the end of Ezria, I hated that Aria forgive him so easily.

Also, I believe in the last season they bring up Toby and Jenna because she showed up for the engagement party (but like she actually didn’t go) and they show a flashback of Jenna trying to kiss Toby a year before the flash forward! So the show runner don’t forget how much of a predator Jenna is!

Even if he didn't know about Ali, he still dated Aria right after knowing she ws 16. I could be wrong on him knowing Ali's age initially though, I don't really remember that specific detail. Either way, Ezra Fitz deserves federal prison time.

I looked up the ages of the actresses who played Emily (Shay) and Talia (Miranda) and I find it funny that Shay is older than Miranda considering Talia was older than Emily but it was believable. The only reason I got interested in this ship was because I know Miranda from a different show and I wanted to see what other roles she played.

You say that Aria and Ezra's longevity has to be respected I say not really because it's based on grooming. There is also the fact that Aria cheats on Ezra with every other guy and doesn't even tell him about it, showing she doesn't really love him, it moreso starts looking like a case of Stockholm syndrome and dependency. Furthermore they had million break ups which just shows the whole relationship is a mistake. Then we have the whole thing where the show *writes in* that their first meeting was NOT an accident or "fate" it was him having stalked the girls and Aria (teenagers!) to further his pathetic hobby as a writer so he knows exactly who she is as well as her age. The show basically admits he started dating her even though he knew she was his student, this is not a big surprise seeing as he ALSO preyed on 14 year old Alison... Marlene King is a weird woman because she wanted to glorify this guy but turned him more and more weird. The man is vile and I'd put Ezria below even incest because of how psychologically messed up it is and what a degenerate he is, not to mention it was so romanticised they gave them a happy ending.

Emison is not writed perfectly, it could have been soo much better, but i love them, i prefer emily with maya in the show, but i see the potential that there's in emison, so it's at least top 3.
Same thing with aria and jason, but here we saw not enough moments of them togheter, but they had so much potential.
Emaya is first because they are a fantastic couple, and maya have a great character, unfortunately he died in season 2, but the time they were both alive they were amazing!
Spoby could have been better, i didn't like the final and some parts of the couple.
Haleb is very good, i haven't negative things to say, maybe they could avoid the plot of caleb in ravenswood, but for the rest is very good.
Emaya is better for me, but it's my preference.
