I ran in the 2012 hurricane race as well, and I just went back for 2023. Unfortunately, 2023 was very humid to start and then it got pretty warm later in the morning. Many runners didn't finish (I barely made it myself). If you have any doubts about the weather, I would bring a bottle or belt with you - there's plenty of water stops, but better safe than sorry. They have a water stop on the mile 20 bridge now, but it's only to refill bottles (no cups), so you can get an extra water stop if you have your own bottle. Other than that, your course advice is still pretty much spot on. I would add that the course is really crowded for about the first 4 miles - you start on 4 highway lanes, but it gets narrowed down in Roslyn, so it's like a funnel. Try not to stress out about this though - it will force you to conserve energy early (which you'll appreciate later). In good weather, this is a negative split course.
I was just on their website and looking at it.. No mention of a lottery. I have a couple friends that have run it and said just go sign up. So I don't think the lottery part is accurate.
So happy I came across your video. My husband just retired in June last year 20 years USMC and he’s running it with his buddy from boot camp/deployments. We are SO excited for him! I was wondering, any advice on where to stay as far as distance to the race? After registering we were given a list of hotels that are participating with discounts. As a family we want to be able to see him start and finish. Any suggestions on how best to do that? I wonder if we stay “too far” traffic ect might be bad. We don’t want to miss seeing him. Thank you in advance!! 😊💕
This was so helpful yesterday! Thank you for your video and tips 😊

Lottery? I just went on their website and signed up for 2024...took 2 mins and got my acceptance email.
Same here.

Thank you so much this is so very helpful. I'll try to come back after Sunday & share my thoughts on your great tips.
Have a great race!
The start is no longer at the pentagon. It's at Arlington Cemetery near the blue line metro stop.
Awesome knowledge drop! Do you think I should bring my own bottle? or are the water stops pretty adequate
You’ll be ok with the water stations, but if it’s warm I’d bring a bottle just in case.

How long does it normally take to start the race?
