BUMMED I missed wheeling up there with ya! I don’t do Instagram so I never know when your going up…. I’ll fix that! I’m headed up this Saturday with about 5-6 rigs to do some fun stuff!! Can’t wait to get back in the woods! Vid looks GREAT! Looks like fun was had by all.!!
Looks fun! Nice right! How many automatic transmissions have you went through? Cause i have a 92 tracker with the auto trans and getting 3:1 t-case gear and twin sticks put in it right now and I have a spool in the rear and have a suzuki samurai 3rd member with a special bracket welded to it with a locker in the front and runnin 33 12.50s on it. I'm just praying I don't start goin through transmissions cause I heard they suck!
Do you change the fluid and filter ever so often like a few times a year or how you do your 3 speed? What lockers did you run in ur tracker before u put the yota axles under it? Sorry for all the questions lol I'm just curious about the lockers cause there are so many different ones and didn't know if you preferred one over the other
@Dust1220 I don't change the fluid that often because the Tin Top tracker (Trash Panda) is a trail rig only. It doesn't see many miles. If i think water may have gotten in or something feels wrong i will mess with it but mostly I leave it alone. When it was on the factory axles I just ran a spool in rhe rear and an open front. Spooks are cheap and I didn't want to lock up the front for fear of breaking something since I was running 35s
1. I like the vid quality from your phone . 2. OK, that Sami really needs to do something about those U bolts, lol, gotta be frustrating. 3. You pointed out that it, Rides Rough, Loss in turning radius, you brought it to the trails on a trailer, and you seemed to be fighting it on the trails. Can you drive it on the road anymore? Safely and at what speeds? Doug I know that I am taking the long way around it, but was the SAS swap worth it in your opinion. There were costs involved, perhaps some frustrations, tracking down parts ect. Was it worth it to you, I value your opinion. It looks cool as hell...but its a different machine now.
This rig never went on the roads before. When it had the 35s on IFS it became just a trail rig. It did a fair amount of gravel road driving on this trip and it did well. I always stay under 25 mph on gravel for safety. There are still some more things I want to do to this rig to make it better but for me it was worth the time and expense. The rig isn't to big that I get bored wheeling with smaller tire rigs and I now feel confident enough in the parts to try more challenging stuff. Hopefully that answers your question. Feel free to give me a call sometime if you want to discuss it. 😉
You have way more experience with these things than I do, If you say it's cool, then it's cool. Wanted to see if there was any remorse. It does look cool though, congratulations you're going to have so much fun learning all of it's new capabilities. @@trashpandaoffroad3548
Forgot, did not realize it was always just a trail rig, so because it was not a road car in the first place, the modifications did not effect it's road-worthiness anyway. Zero Sum...even better. Have fun with it and keep making vids...luv'em.
Might be a dumb question, but which toyota axles are these? I want to price out parts for my rig. The diesel swap is first, but this would be a nice compliment to the additional power
It has 5.29s and a spool in the rear end. I did a video discussing the details once the SAS was complete if you get a chance you should check that out.
@trashpandaoffroad3548 I'm supposed to be picking up an FZJ80 Landcruiser with the full floating rear, triple locked. If those axles can withstand the weight of that 90's landcruiser, I shouldn't have any issue with my tracker on 38's.
@@trashpandaoffroad3548 looks like it does pretty well for power then. Assuming you have the 4.24 transfer case gears? I seen somewhere you have 5.29's in the diffs
Yes. It has the gears in the transfer case. It does well on the trails. I have not taken it on the road yet to see if it will actually keep up with traffic.
I think as I get more seat time in the new set up I will learn more and decide if I want to make adjustments to how it rides. Now I was just comparing it to what I was used too.
Looks awesome dude! I can’t wait to get my big one back together.
Looks so fun and the tp looks tough as nails

Have a great time. Gonna try to get up for the poker run in a couple weeks.
EXCELLENT
Looks great. What tire pressure were you running? That could have been a contributing factor to the ride quality.
True. I was at 12. The more I used to it the more dialed in it will get.

Only had to do one transmission so far but it wasn't from the tires and all the wheeling. The 3 spd auto is notorious for going out over time.

As far as I can tell these are 85 mini truck axles. They have 529s in them and a spool in the rear. Paid 2k for them here in the PNW.
What gears in the axles? Is it locked in the rear?

@trashpandaoffroad3548 yeah I watched it but my memory is terrible. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Thanks the the support. Eventually I want to add an E locker to the front.

Is this still with the 8 valve in it?
Yes. This rig still runs the 8v engine.

I think you should continue filming from your phone. Way better quality. Kenny’s samurai struggled way more then it should have I believe.
The trip was also a test drive for the new owner of that samurai. This trip was his first time driving it and his first time wheeling like that.
He sold it?
@@TrailTrekmedia yep. To his uncle. The championship tuff truck driver.
Hard suspension is not favorable to grip !
