I have seen Rush live in concert with some friends during their Time Machine Tour in Oct of 2010 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Even at older ages, Rush rocked that night!
Tom Sawyer was the song that brought me to Rush. 40+ years later my energy still improves when I hear it. I'm forever grateful to these three dudes for their music.
Hi, hope you're doing well. I am a stagehand in Calgary and have been for 30 years. I have set up and run Spotlight for only about three or four shows. Before show you have soundcheck and run through and get sound levels on all the instruments you will be using that night. This is the riff and the author hand way the check the sound. On the day one of the Roadies said this is really good !. Neil took that and ran with it. A soundcheck for the instruments became Tom Sawyer. If anyone wants to correct me go ahead but I'm positive that's how the song came about
I’m confused over whether this was the actual recording or not. In many interviews Geddy stated he moved to his fender jazz bass for moving pictures, specifically Tom Sawyer. So seeing his Ricky in the video, I’m wondering what he really recorded the song with.
Lots of things going on in this song. I’m so used to a cappella that the instruments seem noisy, in a good way. As always, I enjoy the tidbits of information you share!
@@theindustry4747 just use your eyes, not everything you read is true, yes Geddy did play the Fender on some of this album but the video clearly shows he's playing the Ric on this song.
@@scott4482 Geddy himself has said he used the Fender. the Ricky could have been used just for the video because that was what he was famous for but eh... I honestly don't care if he used a Music Man Stingray, it's his style...
This is just " intro to Rush " if you want to truly " get " Rush you have to go much deeper. Try Natural Science or Jacob's Ladder from Permanent Waves.
I've been a fan since 1977... Don't worry we'll be getting to more of the catalog soon. This was our 1st outing with Rush on our channel, I did the old marketing ploy and went for the video with the most hits. We'll be diggin deep in the near future 😉
Only 108 ? We Had 121 degrees up here in British Columbia Canada a couple of summers ago , just a 3.5 hour drive east of Vancouver in the valley desert areas , Even The Rattlesnakes hid , And yes though many Americans don’t know we have desert in Canada 🇨🇦 .,
It's currently 120 in Bullhead City which we just moved away from lol. Actually I think the original 3 piece band was created somewhere around the 4th century BC but eh, apples and oranges right? 🤣🤣

Excellent jam!! Neil plays stick tricks too. They all solo. 😊
This was my first concert back in 83. Good times!
my first concert was Steve Martin in SLC back in 78.. :)
I never saw that video on MTV. They always played the live version, which they titled "an MTV Concert".

🏆🏆🏆🏆!!!
Flip the panning of your voices so it matches the video. 😊
@mdu2112 🤔
Geddy is playing the Rickenbacker bass on this not his Fender Jazz
According to the Wiki he used the Fender for the recording.

Rush is great but Emerson Lake & Palmer are the original 3 piece band. Neil Perth looked up to Carl Palmer……✌🏼❤️🇺🇸🇺🇦 it’s 108 here in California……
