I’ve always wanted to return to existing places in WoW. Seeing an Outland with all the changes would be amazing! I also always assumed there’d be more Outland refugees as they pour into Azeroth from a dying world. Where would they go, what would they do, and what challenges would they bring with them?
Mostly the Arakkoa, Sporlings, Mok’nathal, and Sand Gnomes.

They should just say "Guys we are slowly going to update the world. Fix some lore problems while we are at it. We are going to contact people like Doron & Nobbel etc... to make sure the fixed lore is in line."
Then Every x.x.5 (or x.x.7 who cares) patch there is a quest line with an updated location. This can be an entire zone or just a sub part. Add some catch up mechanic in those zones for the people that don't have tons of time and it has a function outside of just being updated for the looks of it. Or add something else, maybe a new faction or something where it takes some time to get exalted but once you hit it, you get a unique mount.

If we see revamps of any zones, I'd rather see them treated like BFA with Arathi and Darkshore instead of Cata. I'd rather see nothing than more Cata styled revamps, as those removed the old versions so that anyone who hadn't experienced them could no longer become as invested in these areas, thus making the new experience in the zone less impactful. Have a toggle, keep the old version for those who wish to go experience it, and then apply updated versions where it makes sense to, giving life back to the world itself, rather than just visiting a continent for an expansion and then leaving it behind, never to be involved again.

Outland is such a great setting overall, great lore, mystic and potential for future stories.
I would love to see a single player RPG (Skyrim style) set in Outland years after "we" left. Could be that the portal had been cut off from azeroth because maybe it has been to unstable. You could explore the world in an singleplayer experience. Having an over arching story of trying to stabiliz Outland , while you explore you see the cultures that still lives there, meet broken, orcs, alliance and hord. You fight remnants of the few fel orcs, Naga and burning legions that still exist. Explore the demon Hunter lore and how Outland was ruled by illidan.
There is so much potential in an singleplayer experience like these only set in Outland, maybe 15-20 years after TBC.

If Outland becomes relevant again, I’d like for that “falling apart” aspect to be focused on. It’s denizens could be divided between fleeing for Azeroth or stubbornly staying ‘till the end and it’s factions trying to slow or even completely stop the deterioration.

Imagine an entire full game revamp of zones we've already been to in a new expansion, just an adventure that spans Azeroth and the Outlands it would be sooo sick. I've wanted to play in an updated Broken Isles (specifically updated Suramar) for a few years now.

I don’t think that’s the case, since cata they’ve always done some updates with a time walking npc to go back to the old version. The issue with Cata wasn’t that zones were updated (people love that), it’s that you couldn’t go back to the old version

    • @kyleellis1825

@@prestonrasmussen1758 I also think it was the extreme terrain changes that was hit/miss. Most people wanted the quests in the classic zones to just get updated to the same timeline as the current expansion.
I think if Blizzard just updated some quests with new quest givers/mention the recent events from expansions. maybe throw some Vulperra in the Barrens, make the Dark Iron dwarf mobs non hostile (or at least explain these are rebel groups). Have some Horde/Aliiance settlements in Pandaria and get turn the World PVP objectives into PVE quests(since the war is over and everything).
Swap out the mobs for quests/rename them. Call the Defias still in Westfall, the Defias Diehards and now it's mostly zone maintence while leveling, with the newest Expanson being where we reserve the world ending threats.

Outland was always my favorite place. Because of it, I spent a lot of time in AU Draenor exploring the differences and similarities between the two. I really, really wish they would have allowed the red Fel Orc as a customization option for Orcs. I really loved their look.
But Outland could be saved. Maybe. We have the blueprint of what Outland is supposed to look like in Draenor and enough Titan magic on Azeroth to "loan" some to Outland to maybe get it to slowly reset itself. Just thoughts that will never come to pass.

Lordaeron can return to normal, but its people are still the Forsaken and the Scarlets. I think canonically the Alliance took over Plaguelands in Bfa? Not sure... sadly that area is still ripe for conflict. Then again, the Alliance had so many refugees to Stormwind - mostly thanks to the Forsaken, that a new capital could be established for the living in W. Plaguelands. And I think there was info on Gilneas slowly returning to life, too. Which would mean the Forsaken are now stuck between 2 Alliance kingdoms, 3 if Dalaran were to return to its original place.

You know, visiting areas that we've been to previously and seeing how they've changed since we did our heroics there is a great concept; Blizzard might want to consider it. Heck, they could do a whole expansion based around the concept in theory---imagine revamped zones where, every day during the expansion, there are random incursions of elementals/void beings/demons/etc that we have to push back, and you never know where the story will take you.

I would love to visit Outland again in modern graphics!
Lorewise I prefer it to merge with AU Draenor(which might be a timeline about to stop existing) and get some features of both realities ... like a natural look Draenor, where you move around a corner to find yourself in the Twisting Nether! Plus the different races!
Speaking of, I really hope they bring back the Fel Orcs some day. I love their style and their history is rather tragic, as they stranded on the wrong side of the Portal and were fully enslaved by Demons. Imagine playing a red orc with spikes! ;-)

A major problem with WoW is that the expansion format eliminates old content. The problem with this is that non of the work compounds over time. Because of this, old zones and systems die out in 1 years time.
A solution is to revamp everything that exist now, and make a new expansion model that lets Blizzard continue on the work they made. This way, old zones does not become ghost towns in 1 year, but instead can become a living breathing world that continues to grow.

Maybe we will return to Outland, but it won't feel satisfying. Honestly it's possible they just make the new black dragon aspect's first act with the aspect powers to go to ourland and pull most of the planet back together and stabilize it somehow, maybe with the help of the elemental lords of Outland. And it's going to be wrathion because blizzard has no sense of storytelling. (He fucked everything up so far and never got punished, at most he got a punch in the face for causing WoD and Legion expansions to happen, leading to thousands of people dying). That'll be how he "proves" himself to the other black dragons who lived there for a while, despite that making no actual sense. Main reasons I'm thinking this'll happen is 1. Thrall lived in Nagrand and showed that even though it looks pristine it's still bad and falling apart and 2. Sabellian is from Outland as well and told us a bit about what's going on in Outland. If neither of these pan out into black dragons helping outland, this is a chekhov's gun that never gets used so it feels weird - but totally within blizzard's writing capabilities, of which to say there are very few.
