Sorry mate, but the reason for them to block the A 23 is doesn't it still go under the south terminal mind you, it has been over 30 odd years since I was up there and love seeing you going through my old places stay safe, and keep producing good TH-cam

So glad you popped up there when you did!! That gridlock will be very difficult for the additional emergency vehicles to access, and it will take hours to clear that tailback!! Lovely to have missed it!! Happy passenger willing to pay well for their ride...makes for a happy Tony!

"That gridlock will be very difficult for the additional emergency vehicles " Why would they need so many emergency vehicles of one "suspect" item in a passenger's baggage. Why didn't they shut the exit off the M23 if it was such an issue. The North terminal was fully open. Why should people with flights make their way there and people who arrived make their way out of the still open terminal. Why are the authorities so cagey about what the suspect item was?

As Jack Frost (TV cop) said "people are creatures of habit", so make any changes to the normal road route and most have no idea how to do it differently
Complacency, along distraction, patience , and stupidity seem to be cause of most dash cam incidents world wide

Sorry to say, but quoting the Independent: "At 8.20am on Friday, staff at the South Terminal discovered a “suspected prohibited item” in a passenger’s cabin baggage. By 10.55am, police had ordered a security cordon and the evacuation of the building and adjacent railway station." So no, did not just happen lol

      @kevinrayner5812 15 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

A bit puzzled by what a “suspected prohibited item" is. Since what is prohibited is specified why was it suspect. Then two and half hours later it goes to a full on bomb scare. But at the end of the day turns out is was nothing.

Incident started about 10:15 ISH when the south terminal was evacuated. A23 was shut because it passes directly under the south terminal hence they were sending the south bound traffic up to the M23.

OK just seen the bit where he went up to the M23. The A23 was closed so why is traffic to Brighton sign posted via the A23? So the incident, something found in baggage, happened at 0820 and the cordon wasn't in place until 1100 ish hours. You're driving round at 1200-1230 and police are still setting up road blocks, that's getting on for 4 hours after the suspicious item was reported according to the newspapers. Surely they practice scenarios like this and have a response time and targets they have to hit but if they're blocking roads to the S terminal 4 hours after the initial report of a suspect bomb they missed!!

My guess would be that Sussex Police do not have the depth of experience of the Met in regards to shutting down, evacuation and all that. I think it all went down about 10.55 so at 12ish they still would have been in headless chicken mode, getting folk out and resources into place, getting the chain of command sorted and working out what they dealing with. If it had been serious ( it was not in the end ) then I expect they would have closed Junction 9 of M23. You then have to consider that you have regular airport police and then bringing in extra resource from wider area who are not up to speed with the airports operations.

    1. A23 goes partially under South Terminal. Any explosion could've caused a tunnel collapse.
    2. They can't let cars in to the South Terminal due to the risk of a second attack. Someone could drive any old car bomb in, or just start ramming the large crowd of people standing outside.
    3. They didn't "let" people block up the road. People just do it. No matter how many you tell them to move on, there's always another car just round the corner that's going to try and stop there. There's clips on twitter from that very roundabout, showing those very officers trying to move cars on, yet more kept piling up there. People just refuse to be inconvenienced.
I know you wouldn't have known this at the time as well, but one of the evacuation points for the South Terminal is the drop-off/pick-up area, as far as I can tell from amateur videos. So letting in cars would've been useless, as no one would've been able to get back out anyway due to the giant crowd of people standing in the roads.
The rant about the police does clearly seems to be a rant for the sake of ranting about police, rather than a rant based on anything factual or logical.
Everything you said about the car park however, I completely agree with. Why on Earth they send you up to Level 4 for a pick-up I don't know.

  • @sueedgar8825

I'd rather pay £6 to drive in, drop off and drive out again than pay nothing to sit in a queue for three hours to get in to a layby full of people parked up waiting for delayed flights to arrive. Without the charge and time restriction, that road would always look as busy as that.

The German Police aint better. About 17 years ago there was the so called NSU murders (NS underground). At that day we planned to have a work gathering in some club. Well, 3 ppl came as the police completely locked up the whole city and questioned anyone in a car if they had seen something. I was going into the city, parked somewhere a kilometer or heck even a mile away. Went partying up until midnite or so. And until then all questioning was done.
Well, the murderers escaped anyway. Or couldve been partying with me, who knows. Result: Absolutely zero. Only years after in an unrelated incident it was found out that the NS trio was also responsible.
And why did the police do all of that? Because a colleague of them was also killed...

Far too often I find the police or the British workforce have closed a road and sent a diversion directly to... another closed road. The number of times I've been on the M25 and unable to use the A3 as it's shut, only to find the M3 is also shut and then no messages on the boards until the M4 - which is also shut - is unbelievable. I once ended up looping round by Oxford to get from Reigate to Basingstoke at 3am, and that's ignoring the M25 being shut for a bit, sending everyone north on the A3 (south was shut) and back out on the M3 (which was shut past the M25 so had to get back on the M25, which was down to a single lane and 20mph - at 3am!). I'm fucking sick of the whole lot of incompetent fucks. Months now I've been stuck on the M3's 50mph average limit due to a lane closed and I have never seen any work vehicles, let alone workmen - and I've driven the entire length in both directions at all times of day.

      Terrible reporting lol
Everything he said about the police in this video was wrong.

      Useless?
And what would you say had they not closed the A23, it was a real bomb, the bomb detonated, and dozens of people got trapped in the A23 tunnel right below the South Terminal? Hell, maybe even LDC got trapped down there. I bet you'd be one of the first kicking and screaming about how they should've anticipated it.
Besides.. not one of the police vehicles here were traffic police, as far as I could tell. There was Armed police, and what looked like some sort of Rural Crime Team Ford Ranger.
Budget cuts and a belief that Traffic Police should "focus on real crimes" has led to a lack of police trained in properly managing traffic. People only have themselves to blame for that one.
Then again, even if they were there, they'd probably get called racists for daring to tell the driver of a black car where to go. Or "fascists" for telling you what to do.
**Although, at the end of the video there was a National Highways Traffic Officer on scene, who should've been managing traffic, but we all know those police-rejects were incompetent anyway.

I just just think after such a thoughtful previous video that youve really hit rock bottom here with a thoughtless video criticising the police at the very early stages of containing an incident where you have little or no appreciation of the scale of the problem. The police have in no way caused traffic. People wanting to go to the South Terminal have caused the traffic. Its also been pointed out to you by two other commenters that the A23 goes under Gatwick so thats why they had to close it off. There are NOT an endless supply of traffic officers to direct traffic and thecploice do the best they can with very restricted resources.
I just dont see why you can have empathy for your passenger with the pjs and tea cosy, but you have a cheap shot at the police force!!

I do, our country have been through the utter devastation caused by years of a Labour govt, where the Police no longer serve the people, they serve politicians with the dire ideology, and yes, the coppers on the ground are just taking orders, but Hitler's vicious "police' troops said the same thing, and the govt could not be implementing their awful dictates if the Police at every level said NO. If all you can do is empathise with Police making a pig's ear of a serious situation and not someone who is actually there having to deal with that situation, then just bugger off!
