After Piri they released a Japanese track called Breaking Out. A lot of Insomnia call that the end of the Nightmare series; it makes the 7th song for seven members, the m/v shows them successfully working to reunite after being separated, and also the last line is "bye bye to this nightmare". Piri was the first time Gahyeon rapped, and she learned largely from Dami yo can see how fiercely she does it here and in Scream and Boca. The next major Korean song after Piri was Deja Vu which got them LOADS of attention and a whole thing how they should have won on a music show but points mysteriously disappeared losing by only 11 points... natural for their previous song Piri to get looked at too.
Considering the last point, "Dodging Disbandment and Other Extreme Sports: A History of Dreamcatcher" is still a very worthwhile video to watch. A well narrated videoessay about Dreamcatcher's history (in the industry) which explains the whole alleged robbed music show win towards the end.
@@Friedensp4nzer Apparently a lot of information in this video surrounding the 'The Show' incident is false and the math actually checks out. Dreamcatcher still scored a lot lower in the 'Expert Preferences' than the other two groups which is ridiculous but the win wasn't 'stolen'. It's best not to dwell on it and keep the hopes up for the next comeback.

Most of the Nightmare series is up to interpretation (which I'm sure you've heard before).
What I get from 'You and I' is that after the girls escape in 'Good Night', they try to live in the normal world thinking they're in the clear. However, the spider witch/spirit finds Yoohyeon and traps her back in the mirror/dream world again. The girls capture Yoohyeon's physical body and JiU exorcises the spirit from her, but Yoohyeon's spirit misses the portal to return to the real world. Their attempt to save her fails.
In 'What', the girls decide to move on with their lives and move back into society. In her loneliness, Yoohyeon unknowingly haunts the girls dreams which causes them to feel guilt and "see" her all around them. They ultimately decide to find the book they lost and figure out a way to reunite with their lost member.
With 'Piri' we see the girls have figured out a way to reunite with Yoohyeon. They tell her to find a magic piri (korean flute) and blow it. She does so and it brings the girls into the dream world where she runs off to find them. They are all scattered but ultimately unite with one another.. however, the only way to unite with her is to stay in the dream world. (yes, they are stuck there now)
In the beginning and all the way through the storyline they were witches, so now they actually are ghosts.
Their storyline is so cool!!! And I love how much of it is open to interpretation 🙂

Dreamcatcher is so good, I'm still trying to find a song that I don't like
I think the closest I've come is some of the Japanese tracks like No More. It's an actual anime opening so I know they had a different production company and it just doesn't quite grab me as much. And some of the other Japanses tracks like Endless Night are amazing so maybe it was just that one.

"What" is probably my favourite title track in the Nightmare series and it feels it sometimes is forgotten so I am glad you love it! (:

I love the choreo for You and I, Dami’s magic stick is iconic. I love Yoohyeon’s grey/silver hair. What is very underrated by most, love the chorus and Dami’s rap. Siyeon’s jawline and the start of the “wolf” charisma possibly. Ah, Piri, my favorite title track. Love the choreo, the melody and vocals, Dami’s rap. Dami and Siyeon’s hair.. i am weak, the red and black outfits. I believe that Piri is where Siyeon found that charisma and embraces the “wolf”. There is technically one more, Breaking Out, their first Japanese release is an alternate ending for Nightmare series. They once did a performance of You and I in the rain. Their official site typically has captions.
The lady in the You and I video is “spider queen” (as well call her) and she curses Yoohyeon again after she realizes that the girls have been freed in a sense.. as they still torment people by using the pictures they take and some still have some darkness in them. Yoohyeon fails to escape the “white world” that I am referring to as a dream/nightmare world. In What, Yoohyeon tries to make contact with their girls as the girls also try to make their way back to Yoohyeon. Yoohyeon is only with the others in choreo shots. It seems like JiU can see Yoohyeon’s “ghost”. Piri, the girls are in the nightmare world to save Yoohyeon, but instead get stuck in that world together. Piri is a Korean flute so part of the song is saying to blow the Piri in an emergency. Or that is how I interpret these MV’s anyway.

Piri was the first song I ever heard by Dreamcatcher, as well as the start of my obsession, and it still holds a very special place in my heart. It's one of the only choreographies I've ever learned from start to finish, 1 of only 3🥰

What' is really a great song the reason it has so less views is it that it is one of the most underrated song by insomnia since it has more hard rock it might not be everyone's cup of tea but surely that song is hella amazing!! you should try breaking out next time its a japanese release after piri which fully ends the nightmare series! thanks for reaction!

I love this part of the story simply because Piri & You and I are my favorite nightmare series tt’s. And as you mentioned this does get a little more abstract but the best thing about any of DC’s tt’s that happen to be part of a storyline is that they can definitely stand alone! You don’t need to know the story to thoroughly enjoy them.
I can’t wait for your take on Deja Vu, an absolute masterpiece & for my money their most aesthetically pleasing mv! And don’t even get me started on their b sides!

Since you like their formations you should watch their dance practices. Their MVs are so story driven that sometimes their best dance moments aren't in the MVs at all. Their relay dances are a lot of fun, too. Even if you don't react to their dance videos I'm sure you'll like watching them.

What i think is going on:
YOU & I: Yoohyeon is singled out because she is the main target or the spider's curse. She is attacked and sent back to the dream world, trapped in a Neverending nightmare once again. The others attempt to save her before she is cut off from the human world entirely but they run out of time.
WHAT: JiU and the others head into the dream world on their own accord in an attempt to save Yoohyeon but the curse is keeping them from reaching her. (Hence the rewinding scenes) Yooheyon has given up on being saved until she suddenly felt their presence. The curse doesn't like and tries to separate them even further.
PIRI: Yoohyeon is aware that her friends/sisters are here somewhere and wants to find them so they can all escape. The problem being that the curse had now warped the dream world into a nightmare labyrinth leaving all of them trapped running in circles trying to find Yoohyeon and eachothers. How this one ends is up in the air.
Aw thanks so much for the shout out in the description! And girl, you are literally me when it comes to Dami lol XD I'm very in love with her too. What is absolutely my favorite of all their songs, partially because of the overall sound and partially because of what a badass Dami is in it. It's kind of a polarizing track of theirs though, people seem to love it or hate it, because it's one of the very few that Leez and Ollounder didn't produce so it sounds a bit different from their other stuff and has a very different dance style.
I'm glad you watched the explanation video!!! Tbh there are a lot of small things I have different theories about, but it's SUCH a good basis for understanding what's going on so that when you rewatch you can pick up on the little details and figure out whether you agree with their interpretation.
Btw, there is one more song that's part of the Nightmare Series: their Japanese song Breaking Out! A lot of people will say it's not *officially* part of the series, but it is-the girls said so on the behind the scenes dvd that accompanied the album release. Personally I view it as part of the full storyline and taking place after Piri, but a lot of people also think it's supposed to be an alternate ending instead of Piri, so I'd love to see what you decide!

4:05 There are captions on the MVs of their official channels (Happyface's channel for these older videos), but personally I think that unlike the Dystopia trilogy, the lyrics for most of the Nightmare series aren't as specifically connected to the videos, just some general themes. I think the lyrics for You and I are just Dreamcatcher's version of a love song.
7:45 I believe I commented this on your last Dreamcatcher video, but they trapped him in a burning room, in the mirror. That guy is most likely very dead.
There are a lot of ways to interpret all the videos, and as creative as SuA's SinB interpretation is, much is very wild speculation; which they also acknowledge. So that's not me saying it's a bad or wrong interpretation, not at all. There are parts I disagree with or don't necessarily subscribe to, but it's the beauty of art that different interpretations can all be equally valid.

you know what drives me crazy, dreamcatcher has over 50 songs and nothing i don't like and it's on my playlist.
Main reason why I love reaction videos is the moment I see the genuine shocked and amazed reactions of the people first time hearing and seeing Dreamcatcher. For me it feels kind of nostalgic as of when I first saw and heard their music. Thank you for the amazing reaction and the way you admire them is just amazing because it felt the same way for me. I mean I discovered and stan them years ago but going back with someone and sharing the same emotions and reactions feels nice. Anyways I was hoping that you would be reactiong to the video theory of nightmare by sua's sinB. It would be great and awesome to see your reaction on the theories and how it all make sense and you realize that evert small detail has a meaning and you missed some so you try to go back and see that particular detail 😂 again thanks for the priceless reaction and hope to see more Dreamcatcher reaction vids. Haha! Okay, this was a ride! Short version:
You & I: The girls walked out of the nightmare world they'd been trapped in by the spider lady/goddess, who cursed them (Fly High), in Good Night, then came here, thinking the spider lady couldn't find them again, only she did. She re-captured Yoohyeon (who killed her/her avatar before) and JiU and the girls try to get her back by opening a magical portal back to this world. She doesn't make it to the gate.
What: (Thank you for the What love, it's so underappreciated it hurts!) This is Yoohyeon's nightmare. She's trapped in it after the spider lady put her there. It again shows the other girls trying to find her/get her out, but they don't succeed.
Piri: Yoohyeon is still trapped in the nightmare world the spider lady put her in. Instead of trying to get her out, the girls accept that if they want to be together, they'll have to go to her instead, so they do, locking themselves back in the nightmare world.
The Japanese Breaking Out is anternative ending/continuation of this storyline where they, presumably, although you don't 100% see it, get out of the nightmare world, finally. With Yoohyeon

According to the album description, what is the story of mordern nightmare, so times has passed from You and I. During You and I, Yoohyeon was possesd by the spider lady and was trapped in the nightmare again. So the other members try to do a ritual but fails, so they had to leave Yoohyeon behind in the nightmare. What is the story of Jiu, who started this story(by catching the spider) and feels responsible for Yoohyeon being trapped, so she dreams about Yoohyeon

I guess tipp for future reactions: the MVs on their official channel (earlier ones - happyface ent, recent - dreamcatcher official) have captions, even You and I (I believe you watched the one on 1thK because it has more views somehow and yt recommends that first😔)
So it might take more time searching the MVs but you will definitely get subtitles 😊
It seems pretty common that in the early days of a group, it's the affiliate channel (1theK, Stone etc) that pulls the majority of the views, and that as the group gains popularity, eventually their own channel takes over and becomes the more viewed source.
As a for instance, the same is true of Mamamoo; if you look up Mr Ambiguous, or one of their other early videos, the one on Stone's channel comes up first, while their own is barely anywhere to be seen. I just tried it, and sure enough, Stone's was at the top, while Mamamoo's was _22nd on the list,_ after a bunch of reaction videos, the 1cm MV, some _other_ performances of Mr Ambiguous, and some that weren't related at all...

The Korean mythology of the Piri is that it's sound will wake the dreamer from a nightmare. Sadly at the end of Piri the girls are together, but still trapped in the darkness of nightmare. Their Japanese release Breaking Out takes them to a happier ending where they finally free themselves from the curse that fractured their souls. Most Koreans have some level of belief in reincarnation so the effect of the Curse of the Spider was to doom the souls of the 7 girls to be forever denied being reborn into new lives. They have to wander the earth forever as unhappy spirits.

If you're open to reacting to b-sides, a nice trio of early videos (they''re in their special clips playlist on their yt channel) are: Sleep-walking, Wonderland, and And There Was No One Left. They're not only great songs (albeit different from their title tracks), but also interesting videos.

Yes girl, as another married woman who’s older than the entire group, Dreamcatcher be trying to steal my heart (but it’s been stolen for 3yrs now so lol), like, how are they doing that? 🤣
Also, “What” is my first and favorite DC song but it’s severely underrated. I think there were a number of reasons. For one, it’s the most abstract MV of the Nightmare series. The styling is different as it’s more modern whereas the previous MVs had a vintage vibe. It has a heavier rock sound that many rock/metal fans liked but turned off the more poppier fans. And the thumbnail for the MV is so basic that I think a lot people overlooked it and accidentally skipped it. Lol
I’ve been a fan of kpop since 1999 but was on a 6 yr hiatus until DC brought me out of it in 2018. That’s how powerful they are.
I loved watching your reactions for Dreamcatcher and I'm still very slow to understand the whole storyline, but I thought you were doing so great catching many details and all! And I agree with what you said once that these girls are really great role models for other girls to feel inspired by them. I also wanna be like them when I grow old 🥺 (and I'm older too but who cares 😅)

as a metal head What is the most under appreciated song from the most underrated group.. the song didn't vibe w/ the Korean somnias and their international fan base was small back then. i personally think international fans love What more...
so, after Good Night they escaped into the real world and opened a photoshop (taking photos has always been linked w/ taking ppl's souls etc). but the spider lady comes back and takes Yoohyeon and she's the only one back in the nightmare. The members couldn't save her while they did try...
What: Yoohyeon is showing up in their dreams, nothing much more i guess... love this song, just need to say this one more time.
Piri: the piri is a warning from old Korean times. Yoohyeon is blowing the piri to warn the members or call out for help but eventually all are captured back into the nightmare cuz it's never ending and repeating...

LOVE THE REACTION, don't worry, their mv are so wow that it's always hard to focus and you discover something else HAHA about the storyline, You and I is based on yoohyeon who was caught by the entity (spider) released in fly high, comes to steal her power and trap her again in the world of nightmares, that's why you see them all running, or in a kind of ritual, trying to join their powers to free her, this same entity can hold more grudge towards yoohyeon, since she was the one who killed the spider from the beginning to obtain its power, when they studied witchcraft in fly high. The actor from chase me I don't know will see him anymore, since he has already fulfilled his function, they managed to trick him in good night, locking him in the world of nightmares so they can go out into the real world. In What, it happens that they all wake up disoriented in a very modern world, for that reason they seem so lost walking, since yoohyeon, being possessed again by the entity, trapped them in a loop from which they barely managed to wake up after years. There are party scenes in the mv, which symbolize the celebration of having woken up but confusion when seeing that they don't know where they are, and yoohyeon was always seen far away from everyone except jiu, who after her is the strongest of all. Creen can continue to be possessed and they hide, that's why handong was in the closet, despite everything and pohyeon is seen entering the world of nightmares so that at the end of the mv, she manages to kill herself completely and go there. There are 2 theories here. 1. YOOHYEON got trapped again or 2. Yoohyeon is still evil and caught them in a time loop, that explains why at the beginning of the mv jiu she wakes up and at the end the same, the danger signs and security tapes may refer to their deaths. The complicated thing here is that they initiate time travel, since in Piri, the phrase blows the piri, it is to indicate that if they meet each other, they make the piri sound, since each one was scattered in what, From here a chronology begins that would go to his other "breaking out and deja vu" mv's, it may all be very confusing KDJ but when you see the mv's you can start connecting the dots. i’m just here to recommend the ‘R.o.S.E BLUE’ mv ! it’s not connected to the main storyline (i don’t think?) as it was made for a mobile game but it has its own story and is honestly one of my favourite music videos EVER :]

The Japanese MV "Breaking Out" wraps up the storyline. Many see it as an "alternate" ending. My thought is it was a management decision to not release in Korea as it would detract from the Kings's Raid collaboration for "Deja Vu".

They have sooo many great songs and im so happy you're getting to know them! Dreamcatcher is such a talented and amazing group that deserves so much more attention. In my opinion, Yoohyeon should be the center, she has a lot of time in many of their songs and it doesn't surprise me because she's terribly talented

oof yes! all dreamcatcher songs are masterpiece. what is such a good song but dcc and duekae basically act like it doesn’t exist anymore and haven’t performed the song in so long T-T i hope that once you’re done with the title tracks that you can check out their dance practices as well! dreamcatcher choreo’s are amazing and you barely get to see them in the mvs.

I really love the styling for both Piri and You and I. And you are absolutely right, they are doing a great job with acting and conveying emotions in their MVs.
Sadly someone (either from the girls or the company) seems to seriously dislike What, as far as I am aware they have not performed it a single time after their initial promotions for that comeback.
After this I definitely recommend checking out Breaking out. It is one of their japanese releases and an unofficial alternate ending to the Nightmare-Series. If you want you can also check out some other japanese tracks by them. There are quite a few to choose from, every title track from Chase Me until Deja Vu has a japanese version. They also have more original japanese songs tho, Endless Night is probably their "heaviest" song, and Eclipse was an Intro for an anime!

Thanks for the video. I'm really happy that you seem to have "What" in the top running for your favorite in the Nightmare series. It's definitely the underdog in their discography. It seems that they and their company don't give it anymore love. It was the only title track not performed in their 2 day online concert. it's on the bottom of a lot of fans lists as well. So was really happy to see you smiling and rocking out to it.

Are you planning to maybe do album listens as well for their discography? Or maybe just a few b-sides special clips? Heads up, there are also their anniversary releases "Full Moon" and "Over the Sky" with their Japanese releases.
Also the MV's on their offical channel has subs if you're not aware. Some special clips don't have them because of a recent TH-cam policy not allowing non-official sub uploads. Another place you can look is on their official vlive channel which allows fansubs!

‘What’ having such low views is because the comeback lowkey flopped among the casuals listeners, though the song is a huge fandom favourite.
though album sales wise it’s one of the most sold albums because their company miscalculated after the success of You and I, thinking the next cb would sell way more albums than it did. this did work in dc’s favour because it meant new somnies could buy the album and the sales for that album have gone up a lot the years after (esp since most of their other albums are out of print).
funfact, every dc title is composed and produced by the same ppl (leez and ollounder) except ‘What’ and ‘Fly High’ aka the two dc cbs that have the lowest views on youtube. kind of fascinating

Not to overload your schedule but you will LOVE this recommendation: Mamamoo. They don't share the same sound as Dreamcatcher, but they share all the same qualities that make Dreamcatcher great. INSANELY talented (best vocals in kpop full stop), destroying boundaries opening new opportunities for younger groups, wide variety of songs and subjects and genres that are always amazing, easily distinct attractive personalities, crackheads that are hilarious and inappropriate in all the best ways. Their rapper is a serious problem for all deep-voice Dami lovers. Since you watch in threes I'll recommend Hip (their charisma), Starry Night (vocals AND visuals), Yes I Am (underrated anthem). Egotistic as bonus.
A reporter asked one of their members Wheein if she is gaining weight. Wheein replied, "Yes I am. I am a woman that's a natural thing as we age." A little later they release a very positive song but one calling out and leaving behind the beauty standards that idols and women in general are subjected to, called Yes I Am. The music isn't rock genre like Dreamcatcher, but they are SO rock n' roll.
Once I wrap up with some other groups Mamamoo is on my list!!
@@laurenclaire There is a huge crossover of Insomnia and Moomoos, you're going to love all 4 of them. Mamamoo also has the BEST-made guide on TH-cam by Purplehawke; it seriously looks professional like the label put it out. Another trait these two groups share that other groups don't have are their crackhead m/vs.
Dreamcatcher enjoys self-made m/v's for their b-sides (Sahara, Break the Wall, Poison Love went with Scream, Boca, Odd Eye respectively) that are hilarious videos to great songs and give as much enjoyment as any of their m/vs. Mamamoo makes entire songs from how they tease each other about height (when they're all really short and within 1cm of each other), sleeping in the car in full make-up during overnight m/v shoots, an entire song of dad jokes, a song about puppy love... to their dogs (Taller Than You, Sleep In the Car, Aze Gag, Waggy).
Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but this explainer seems to cover a lot of the bases even a lot of details from much more confusing parts like What. You could make the argument that there's a lot of reliance on production details that might not have been deliberate but it's fun to speculate if nothing else and if you don't mind some dream logic I think it paints a pretty good picture of the whole story.
