Thank you for the dreamcatcher reaction. I recommend the Japanese tracks Endless Night and No More for the following songs. These are Dreamcatcher's heaviest songs. In Endless Night, Dreamcatcher shows their willingness for a new beginning (dystopia series). I think No More is part of the dystopia series because of the meaning of the lyrics.

Breaking Out is the best happy ending the girls can expect. They've overcome the powers of Fate, represented by the red threads, which because of the curse have kept them trapped in nightmare and separated from each other. They are free to ascend to the afterlife where they will await rebirth into a new life and hopefully stay away from spiders. Piri ended in darkness while Breaking Out ends in light. The circle at the end reminds me of the old country song Will The Circle Be Unbroken which promises that everyone will be reunited with their loved ones in the afterlife. Traditional Christianity is very strong in South Korea so that meaning is quite possible. No one involved in the making of Dreamcatcher's MV's have ever tried to explain them in detail if at all, so viewers are free to draw their own conclusions. English is a language that demands everything in existence be completely explained. Korean is almost the complete opposite. It primarily conveys emotions which leaves you free to imagine what the emotions evoke in you.
Deju Vu is a piece of Art and stands on a different level from everything else they've done. Nothing more needs be said about it.

12:16 LMAO i relate to this on a spiritual level. i ascend every time she sings. if you really wanna hear her go off, check out dami and siyeon’s ost called ‘shadow’. there’s two versions, a normal and a slow one. it’s probably better to check out a lyric video since the official mv is just scenes from the kdrama the ost is for

Deja Vu lyrics are more related to the game King Raids storyline, while during the collab they allowed DC to build their own storyline for their MV (note there's also a official Kings Raid MV). it's really Yoohyeon who betrayed all of them for the throne. so in the opening, GH is killed? Handong is imprisoned and SuA is exiled etc. the MV is a Deja Vu or nightmares of Yoohyeon from the past and present. You can notice in the 2nd scene of JiU vs Yoohyeon the palace is a mess (torn apart due to the fight) but in the 1st scene its more of a Deja Vu of Yoohyeons guilt (she's the queen but have nightmares)... When JiU's in the coffin everyone's there but when YH is there's only JiU etc... anyway, this is classic... no other Kpop would be brave enuf to pull this off...

    • @roseblue_
      @roseblue_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Also the "Holding this pain" part, sung by Dongie, never shows her, but instead, JiU and Yoohyeon are shown alternatively. Because, it's actually the thoughts of both the two actors, having to fight with their former dear friend. However, in the end, Yoohyeon the Usurper finally betrays and backstabs Queen JiU as she walks away, after having spared her life.

Déjà Vu is such a masterpiece. The song, instrumentals, vocals, choreo, MV, performance.
And their Japanese tracks tend to go harder for the rock instrumentals
Anyway, I hope you do explore their b-sides. That's a Dreamcatcher flipside world. You'll be taken into an Alternate Dreamworld Dimension. The duality, the variety of genre blending sounds. And you'll hear more of their vocal abilities. All of them.
Their rock sound in their songs are in all their title tracks, as it is their signature sound.

  • @_vkos_

Thanks for the Dreamcatcher love, as always! Only reason I'm going to point this out is because it's relevant. Siyeon was the member being crushed by the wall. That's the first time Siyeon's nightmare, claustrophobia, has been shown. The other cool thing that I've heard people theorize about showing contrast to Piri is the part where Yoohyeon is standing there with the less opaque version of herself moving back and forth over her. Towards the end it eventually merges with her. Some folks pointed out that might be the direct opposite to the scene in Piri where Yoohyeon looks up to the completely separated version of herself. I like the idea. No clue if that's correct though. lol
Bruh. "Deja Vu" is an actual masterpiece. Not even fanboying or over exaggerating. The visuals, music, symbolism, lyrics. I have to distract myself while watching this MV because I will legit start tearing up. The way I interpret the literal events in the MV is super sad. If I'm being real, I had kind of a shit day and don't feel like typing a thesis. Just know that, in my opinion, Yoohyeon fucked over everyone. By the time she gets the throne, there's nothing left to rule. No one by her side. She's completely filled with sadness. Dami's lyric is actually what fucks me up every time. "If through wet tears, through belated regrets..." (No joke started tearing up typing this...fuck.) With no physical means of making her happy, she looks towards the memories of her friends. However, every time she tries to pull those feelings of happiness with those she cared about, she's immediately confronted by her transgressions. That's her deja vu. She has to relive the horrible shit she's done just to find any shred of that happiness. I pity her.
That guide by Mera is almost a right of passage for InSomnia, from what I understand. It only goes up to 2020, but it gives you some great insight to their early years and all of the bullshit that went down. 😂😭
You could also hit up "BEcause" to prep for *THE FULL ALBUM COMEBACK IN APRIL!!!* If you haven't see their limited edition album versions they've been doing since "Boca", you should check them out. They're pretty dope.
If there are a billion typos and grammar mistakes, my bad. Again, shit day. Thanks for the reactions!

One slight addendum: Siyeon's nightmare _was_ kinda referenced in Chase Me, where she trapped the Nightmare Hunter inside one of the hotel rooms (all of the girls inflict their nightmare on him one way or another, but only some of them have it reflected back on them)... 🙂

While there are songs I like better than others it’s impossible for me to find a bad song in their discography…..but Deja Vu is a tour de force (in keeping with the song title language)! A true masterpiece in an art gallery full of fine works!
The story has already been explain (quite well & rather succinctly I might add) by other commenter but suffice to say it’s a story of betrayal & the reality of living with one’s own decisions after the fact.
It’s a collab with a game called Kings Raid hence the increased budget & mind blowing visuals in the mv.
Dodging disbandment is a very good detailed look at their early years & the struggles they’ve had to endure because they break the norms of kpop convention (& boy do the big players in the game hate it!) but keep in mind you will run across some spoilers in it but we’ll worth a look.

'Breaking Out' was produced by another company, in collaboration with DCC. That's their Japanese distribution company, Pony Canyon aka Ponican. The styling is evidently different. The clothes, hair and makeup are clearly Japanese fashion, aimed at the Japanese market. 'What' also has a similar styling.
Showing Siyeon in her Nightmare series nightmare (walls closing in), Yoohyeon being recovered in the end, the lyrics, and Dreamcatcher breaking out from the Red Threads of Destiny, to free themselves from the curse of the Spider Queen, shows a strong connection to 'Piri' and Nightmare in general..
Later on, on a following album, DC even released another song called 'The Curse of the Spider', long after the Nightmare aka the Curse of the Spider Queen Series had ended... So yes, Breaking Out is connected. And corrects the unsatisfactory ending in Piri.

Breaking Out is one of my favorite of their Japanese tracks! That and Eclipse, which they did for an anime opening! And I love how many lines Dami has in it 😍
I like to think of Breaking Out as more of an extended ending than alternate, because at the end of Piri they’re all together but still trapped in the nightmare world, and Breaking Out to me seems like their final fight to free themselves from their fate and actually escape. And it is an *official* part of the Nightmare series! The girls have said so on the dvd commentary that came out with the album.
Deja Vu is soooo cool. One of the popular theories about the events it shows is that the red/warm toned scenes are reality and the blue ones are meant to represent false memory/perception. So a lot of the things you see are the same scenes just from two different perspectives-JiU’s (reality) and Yoohyeon’s (false perception). Like the last supper scene. In reality all seven of them are together and happy, but then you see things from Yoohyeon’s perspective (and we know there’s a change because the drinks on the table turn blue) and in her mind, she and JiU aren’t side by side-they’re facing each other at opposite ends of the table.
The same thing happens with the sword scenes. In both, JiU is the one holding the sword at Yoohyeon. But while Yoohyeon seems to perceive herself as an innocent victim, the reality is that she was a tyrant who exiled all her friends and drove the kingdom to ruin. And when JiU offered her mercy after overthrowing her, Yoohyeon stabbed her in the back.
There also seems to be a theme of resurrection, like this story is a loop that the two of them are caught in. JiU in the white outfit seems to be poisoned or die on the banquet table but then is surrounded by golden butterflies and opens her eyes at the funeral. And then later we have this imagery of the sun and moon that reminds me of a lot of poems that talk about the two constantly chasing each other, and we have JiU’s lines that she’ll never leave Yoohyeon. So like maybe they’re immortal? Maybe JiU is a ghost who’s gonna haunt Yoohyeon forever as punishment for killing her? Who knows.
I already can’t wait for your reaction to Dami in Red Sun 😂😂😂 she’s UNHINGED-they all are, honestly. But also another one that’s gonna wreck you as a Dami stan: her cover of Havana with Sua.
But also yes omg her singing is AMAZING and if you want to hear more, I highly recommend her recent cover of Palette with Yoohyeon and her OST Shadow with Siyeon. There’s an original and slow version and PLEASE if you watch them, watch the lyric videos, because so many people don’t and then they miss which parts Dami is singing.

Yeah, Breaking Out's a tricky one. Some people view it as _the_ ending to the Nightmare Saga, others view as an _alternate_ ending; maybe it takes place _after_ Piri, maybe it _replaces_ it...
Personally, I'm more in the "alternate" camp, for one major reason... its Japanese-exclusive release.
I've made this analogy once before, but imagine watching your favourite TV show every week, same time, same channel for six weeks... then the final episode is on at a different time and day, on a channel that doesn't even air in your country. To me, this is the kind of logic that would have to be in play for Breaking Out to be the official end of the story... 😉
To stretch the analogy from the _other_ side, in Japan, they only saw episodes 5, 6, and 7 of the series; they have _no_ idea what's going on. 😜 (There were Japanese single releases of What and Piri, before they started focusing their Japanese efforts on singles completely separate from the Korean market.)
5:35 I mean, that _is_ a perfectly fair response... 😋I have to say, while they all look incredible in the white outfits, Siyeon and Dami are _especially_ 😙👌 to me...
But yeah, ultimately, I view Breaking Out as an alternate ending. Piri is the official Dreamcatcher-style "not quite happy ending" ending, where they're still stuck in the Dreamworld, but they _are_ at least back together.
Breaking Out feels like a much more abstract video, but they're implied to actually be _freeing_ themselves, giving them the _happy_ happy ending.
I'm not surprised that _Deja Vu_ made you think of Ateez... there are a few crossover titles between the two groups.
_My Way_ (Dreamcatcher have track on their first Japanese album by that title), _Utopia_ (Dreamcatcher don't actually have a _song_ with that title, but the references are there in their Dystopia storyline), _Wonderland,_ and, of course, DV.
And, of course, Leez and Ollounder had a hand in many of the tracks for both groups (they're part of the Edenary team that produces Ateez' discography on top of producing Dreamcatcher).
Siyeon's also declared herself an Atiny.
9:55 That line hits almost _everyone_ that way. While Dongie's _always_ been loved by InSomnia, I think that line is where even more _casual_ listeners sat up and noticed her.
Then she buggered off to China for a year. 😜
So, yeah, Deja Vu is based on the storyline (or some of it) of the mobile game _King's Raid,_ which I don't fully understand because I haven't played it much.
_But,_ here, the first part of the video is played through Yoohyeon's eyes. She's the good guy, and JiU betrays her.
Except we realise that's not what happened. JiU is the ruler, and Yoohyeon had clearly _already_ transgressed somehow. JiU was about to pass judgement, but relented, then Yoohyeon thanked her by stabbing her in the back with JiU's own sword and seizing her throne.
We can probably surmise that the other members all posed some kind of obstacle to Yoohyeon, so were either killed or exiled. And now Yoohyeon sits on the throne... ruling over what?
All she has left is the memories of the friends she betrayed.
Dodging Disbandment is a definite must-watch, so I'm glad that's on your to-do list. As Vkos mentioned, it's a couple of years out of date now, but it covers a good deal of their history, and really shows what they went through to get where they are today.
I always say no matter how you already feel about the girls, by the time you've finished that video, your respect for them will have increased tenfold. _Guaranteed._

Believe it or not, but Breaking out is the softest of their Japanese releases. 😉
Deja Vu is nothing short of a masterpiece. It is a beautiful, fragile ballad that kicks your teeth down your throat in the chorus. It is extra difficult to sort out, because it tells the story from two perspectives. You know how even evil people think they are the good guys? This is reflected here. One perspective is Yoohyeon's, who gets corrupted right in the beginning. She thinks JiU is bad (does not want to share power) and backstabs her and kills, imprisons or banishes the other members so that she can rule alone. The other perspective is reality, where we can see JiU be kind to Yoohyeon, but she gets killed for it. It's not exactly a Deja Vu per definition, but I believe this is a commentary on the different perspectives people can have about the same event. The lyrics seem to hint at an abusive relationship, where there are usually two perspectives as well, and the abuser usually finds excuses to justify their actions.

Even though the lyrics become more hopeful and obviously it's very clearly titled "Breaking Out", I feel like at the end it's even more clear than in PIRI that even though they found each other and are together, they are still trapped. Which is why I always feel like it's more of a retelling of the same story of PIRI (just with red strings instead of a scary maze) rather than an alternate ending.

  • @loreleileong4071
    @loreleileong4071 2 ปีที่แล้ว

To give more context on Deja Vu, the MV used the meaning of Deja Vu (i.e. the feeling that you have already experienced something, even when in reality you never have) to tell the story. Basically, there are two main character which is Yoohyeon (the antagonist) shown at the start of the MV, and she converts Jiu's (the protagonist) throne (shown by the darkness enveloping her when she sat on the throne).
The usage of Deja Vu is through the various reversed scenes, for example, the first and second sword scene where in the first (representing a fake memory i.e. Deja Vu), Yoohyeon see herself as the "victim" in a normal dress with Jiu is in black pointing the sword at her and in the second sword scene (representing reality), where Jiu is in the pretty dress and Yoohyeon is in black, the opposite happen and Yoohyeon backstabing Jiu instead, and getting rid the rest of the members with her only remaining on the throne. Other examples are the switching of the person in the coffin with the other pointing the sword towards it.

  • @insomnia9436
    @insomnia9436 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

yes the meaning behind jiu leting go of the hair is the literal act of let go of the nightmare. Breaking out mv is kinda cheap not gonna lie, their budget for japanese stuff isnt as big as for korean stuff but i like the ultimate result (and it's getting better). One more thing about it: The red lines in the white room... Red lines in japanese culture usually means fate. You know the legend of the akai ito? The one that says two lovers (soulmates) are connected by a fateful red string in their pinkies. So in this MV, fate itself stands in between the girls, but they slowly find a way towards each other.
Oh, one detail to blow your mind: Dejavu by Ateez and Dejavu by Dreamcatcher were BOTH written an composed by the same people. Leez and Ollounder are Dreamcatcher's main producers as well and they did a fantastic job crafting two different and amazing songs

Breaking out is one of my fav original Japanese tracks as they also have Japanese versions of some of their Korean songs. I consider this as one of their more underrated songs. Endless Night, Eclipse, Don’t Light My Fire and My Way are other Japanese tracks I love. I probably enjoy the Japanese tracks more then some fans as I use to listen to a lot of Japanese Rock (Gackt, Miyavi, Hyde, An Cafe, Gazzette, LM.C, Dir En Grey) and anime music in high school… I still listen to most of those Japanese Rock artists.. Dir En Grey was always a “have to be in a certain mind set” group for me. I love Breaking Outs chorus and Dami’s rap.
As for Deja Vu, it was my 3ed song when getting into them. This song should have gotten a win.. Dodging Disbandment and Other Exteme Sports: History of Dreamcatcher does go a bit into a theory in why it did not get a win. That video is a recommend watch just for the history of gives of the group and all the stuff they have gone though. “Holding this pain” is an iconic Handong line and her voice delivers it perfectly. It’s also their first mobile game collab and it’s also the same series that Eclipse is used as an opening for the anime. Siyeon with the fire behind her is one of my favorite shorts. This was my fav until I watched Piri a song later.. Course the girls serve visuals along with their rapping and vocals as usual.

I have to be honest, for "Deja Vu" I thought Yoohyeon was the queen, only for Jiu to come and try stealing the throne, in which she did succeed. Then, later on, Yoohyeon comes for revenge(since she wants the throne back) and Jiu gave her mercy-running from there. And everyone else thought of Jiu as the villain since she stole the crown but...
There's the scene were Yoohyeon was surrounded by black fog, so perhaps that could mean she was consumed by the power-leaving her no personality? Although Jiu knew it was a dangerous thing to do, she went to Yoohyeon and take the crown/save her friend. Which caused her to be backstabbed by Yoohyeon in the end and well... die(?)
And then in the end, when Jiu dies, the truth is revealed. Perhaps, Jiu finally being "free" means she won't chase Yoohyeon anymore? She won't have to worry for her despite knowing it would only give her more troubles?

One thing I really enjoyed during this year of Dreamcatcher content was Dami's hair being longer and longer each video after Piri.

actually non of the reddit or comments were correct because first of all this is a collab of DCC (Dreamcatcher Company) and Vespa. At this point of time Vespa is promoting a game called "King's Raid" and this game is actually opening up it's latest chapter storyline which revolves in the characters named Kasel and Frey in which corruption takes place and DCC incorporated this in this MV in which vespa took part in creating visual effects and production set. How do I know this? because I played King's Raid and I actually read the storyline of Kasel and Frey in the game and I know for sure that this is the storyline of DejaVu because the lyrics says so. There is actually no betreyal in this MV this simply shows the symbolism of JiU or in this case she was Frey in the game asking the hopeless guy Yoohyeon portraying Kasel in the game as to what kasel wants to do to his destiny. In the story, Kasel was just an ordinary guy who only wanted to be a knight in order to follow the footstep of his beloved brother but kasel is too weak and naive so he was just a squire meaning he cannot be a knight unless he shows a talent or he does something to become one. One day his brother was sent to patrol the forrest because the monsters activity are growing stronger in that area and were causing havoc to people who comes and lives in that area. Unfortunately his brother did not return and one of the knights returned badly beaten bruised and barely alive came to the king and told them that all the men or knights they sent were all dead and wiped out because of one strong monster. hearing the news kasel cannot believe that his brother was killed and he somewhat believes that his brother is alive in the woods waiting for a rescue of some sort. Kasel being a squire was denied by the kingdom to find his brother meaninh they abandoned all hopes of someone being alive out there. And so this is where he secretly left the kingdom but he's not alone because he was accompanied by Frey, his childhood friend to find his brother. Along the way kasel met a sorcerer who actually knows his father and in some way connected the dots and made him the new hero because his father was the former hero who sealed the demon king in the past. knowing that he can become powerful if he obtained his father's sword he went on a long journey to find it only find out that the sword was corrupted and he became corrupted as well but his friend Frey can reach out to him despite being corrupted this is where the MV comes in when JiU pointed the sword at Yoohyeon this symbolizes JiU asking Yoohyeon in an agressive manner if is this what you really want? will you give in or fight for it? and threw the sword at Yoohyeon giving her the chance to decide on her fate but unfortunately the corruption was really deep and it was too late to save her from corruption. And so they reversed the sides where it shows Yoohyeon wearing black meaning she was already corrupted and picking up the sword in a manner in which it looks like she's about to stab JiU at the back but it wasn't shown if she did it or not only for us to see that Dark Yoohyeon sitting at the throne while JiU sitting at her side and what does this symbolizes? this means that JiU is on Yoohyeon's side and that's how the story goes Dark Yoohyeon deatroying everything in her way including friends in order to get the throne as shown in the MV that Yoohyeon was surrounded by friends only when she is alone with no one in her side except JiU. there are lots of elements shown and this comment is too freaking long but this last fact is shown in the MV, at the beginning of the MV Yoohyeon sits at the throne wearing white but was surrounded by dark clouds meaning that corruption is taking over. And so wether you read this long butt comment this is actually the true story behind the MV. they also sang the game's anime adaptation titled Eclipse ☺️☺️☺️

Yes Deja Vu and Scream 🤘
Siyeon actually covered an english song from King's Raid OST titled Blind Days. Dreamcatcher did an actual anime opening song for King's Raid anime, song called Eclipse.
Dodging Disbandment would the the best info video there is of Dreamcatcher journey from Minx to Deja Vu era.
Red Sun would definitely be an experience.
