More proof that TONS of great music is still being made. People just need to go out and look for it! Thanks Pete for bringing more attention to this fantastic band.
been waiting patiently for this...these guys have carried the torch for many years, if they made this a full time project...good things could happen...
Demons was my introduction to the band. I can see why that was your #1 at one time. It’s a killer album. You made a Monster Magnet reference during this ranking. Would be interesting to see your ranking on them. Like Monster Mag a lot. Great ranking Pete of a really cool band.
This is a band I`ve been meaning to explore for a while now. What I have heard I like, and your ranking will give me some direction. Thanks, love the ranking shows.
I'm pretty sure it was Ken who had the blurb on his website, along the lines of "if these guys were around in 1974, they'd be headlining the California Jam"
I love Spiritual Beggars and great band Pete!! I myself need to get the catalog of them and yes Rick Labonte get their material they are killer and right up with the best of them as Pete and me can tell ya! I have some songs compiled on cd when I had about them and well made sure to have some tracks that of along lines mentioned and some not but yea. I as when I can be sure to get the actual cds when I see them and I am able to get. Thanks Pete. Happy Holidays. Take care everyone.🎶
This is why I appreciate the 'ranking" series. I've heard a couple of their albums and own Ad Astra, but never listneed to anything past Demons before. I think it's time to change that.
I remember picking up "Ad Astra" back in the day when it came out. I am sad I never followed Spiritual Beggars since then like I should have, because this band has always been brilliant. Michael Amott is a monster riff spewing machine, whether it was when he was with Carcass or with Arch Enemy or Spiritual Beggars.
Hey Pete, took me a couple months to find some cd's. I really like this band. So far I have On Fire, Ad Astra, and Earth Blues. I agree with most of your rankings. Of the 3 I have it 1. Earth Blues 2. On Fire 3. Ad Astra. If AD Astra had a little less distortion it would be #2. Thanks for your help.
Well, it happened that i came across this youtube video , may be a couple of weeks ago, in August 2024. It called my attention to see the logo of Spiritual Beggars, so i thought : what could this be? lets give a try and see what it is about!!! So I decided to listen to your ranking of Spiritual Beggars. I havent had any news about a new album so I said to myself. lets see if I can learn sth new about this band. I didnt know that they have ninth albums, so It was great to know their whole discography Pete. I have listened to three albums: Return to Zero, Earth Blues and Sunrise to sundown. My favourite is Return to Zero, so i couldnt agree more with the ranking that you made. As far as I know, this band is not usually mentioned here in Argentina. . You speak quite fast, and I am not accustomed to your accent but nevertheless i managed to get what you say. Anyway Pete, thanks for the ranking. It is really appreciated. Long live to Spiritual Beggars. Wish they keep on rocking!!!
Really hard to pick a favorite, and all 3 vocalists are great. Earth Blues On Fire Mantra III Ad Astra Another Way to Shine Demons Sunrise to Sundown Return to Zero s/t
Of the bands that Michael Amott was or is in (Carnage, Carcass, Arch Enemy, Spiritual Beggars, Candlemass in '98, & Black Earth) Spiritual Beggars remain my favorite. That being said... Another Way to Shine. On Fire. Ad Astra. Earth Blues. Demons. Sunrise to Sundown. Mantra III. Return to Zero. Spiritual Beggars.
Before I make my selection I have to add album to #27 Eva under fire- love, drugs & misery. Very good album who reminds me of Halestorm and has a female singer. Now at #14 Sammy Hagar- crazy times. Sammy’s best since chickenfoot. 31 Dorothy- gifts 30 Clutch- sunrise on slaughter beach 29 The ugly kings- strange times 28 Disturbed- divisive 27 Eva under fire- love, drugs & misery 26 Naked gypsy queens- Georgiana 25 Cobra whip- must die 24 Kris barras band- Death Valley paradise 23 Ugly kid Joe- rad wings of destiny 22 Dead city ruins- shockwave 21 The defaced- charlatans 20 Dead daises- radiance 19 Orianthi- rock candy 18 Crobot- feel this 17 Halestorm- back from the dead 16 Projected- hypoxia 15 Walter trout- ride 14 Sammy Hagar- Crazy times
Instantly subscribed because nobody reviews classic stoner rock records of the late 90's so I hope you review more...maybe I suggest some Orange Goblin or Sheavy??!
Loved this band so much and I lost track after Apollo joined. I will check it out for sure! :) So, since I don't know the Apollo MK my raking is: 1) Demons 2) Another Way to Shine 3) Mantra III 4) On Fire 5) AD Astra 6) Spiritual Beggars
Awesome!!! Love all of those albums as well. Ad Astra and Mantra III are my two favourites and Return to Zero is absolutely killer. Spirit of the Wind is mesmerizing. Please rank Firebird and Anathema soon.
@@seaoftranquilityprog wow. Bill Steer from Carcass’ power trio band. Same vein as Spiritual Beggars but more like Cream than Purple or Heep. Amazing band. 6 fantastic studio albums. Bill really channels Jack Bruce. It’s quite uncanny. Also features Ludwig Witt on drums on most albums. Roger Nilsson was also briefly in the band.
Spiritual Beggars are an excellent band. I initially discovered them due to my interest in Arch Enemy and Michael Amott's involvement in both bands, but it was ultimately more Spiritual Beggars than Arch Enemy that served as the necessary therapy to help me survive my high school years which were absolutely brutal as a nerdy, awkward, socially inept kind of guy who wound up working in computer science and as an abstract painter - two of the most solitary, introverted activities I could find. I don't personally care for what I've heard after Apollo joined - which admittedly isn't much, but I found it too polished and perfected and I strongly prefer the grungier, psychedelic, stoner-rock vibe of the Spice years - but these are my rankings of the albums I do enjoy: 1) Mantra III 2) Another Way to Shine 3) Self-titled 4) Demons 5) On Fire 6) Ad Astra I know that most people rank Ad Astra as their number one album from these guys, but the riffs and songwriting just don't grab me like the others. Left Brain Ambassadors, Per Aspera ad Astra, and Mantra are exceptional songs, though.
I'll definitely be checking out this band, with what i heard so far on youtube. they sound like the dogs bollocks (really good) cheers pete. p.s. what is the t-shirt?? that saying is awesome.
Great band. I own Another way to shine, Ad Astra, Mantra III and On fire. I think i only disliked On fire because of the singer. But i haven't heard them for a while. All my jewel case cd's from 15 years and back are filed in these cd cases. Only my digipacks and vinyl from the last 15 years are next to my stereo. I mostly listen to those albums.
Apologies to my regular chat team-this was SUPPOSED to air at 10AM, not 9!
More proof that TONS of great music is still being made. People just need to go out and look for it! Thanks Pete for bringing more attention to this fantastic band.
I wish Spiritual Beggars was Amott's primary band and they would tour and record more often.
been waiting patiently for this...these guys have carried the torch for many years, if they made this a full time project...good things could happen...
Thanks for the ranking Pete. I know Spiritual Beggars have been mentioned plenty on SOT, now it's time to for me to really check them out.
Great stuff. Album rankings rule. Thx PETE 👍💯
Love this band and the vocals of Spice. Thanks Pete!
One of my favourite modern bands, so underrated.
Great stuff. Another band I recommend is Firebird. It was Bill Steer from Carcass' group. 70's sounding blues /hard rock.
Oh man! I must check out Spiritual Beggars already. Thanks for this ranking.

Yes Papathanasio, is Greek. His surname is like Vangelis Papathanasiou... But he misses U in the end to make it more artistic perhaps.

Show suggestion: Ranking the albums: The Obsessed
wow... how did I miss this band? Really good stuff.
So weird I was listening to on fire yesterday! Awesome underrated band. great choices Pete

Escaping The Fools from Ad Astra is one of my 'go to' air guitar songs.
Love this band,Demons and Ad Astra kick ass!

Love this band. I was just checking for new material when I saw this. Good list. I would probably put Earth Blues first. No bad ones
Awesome!!! Love all of those albums as well. Ad Astra and Mantra III are my two favourites and Return to Zero is absolutely killer. Spirit of the Wind is mesmerizing. Please rank Firebird and Anathema soon.
Anathema is on the long to-do list. I've never listened to Firebird.

I recommend checking out Spice’s other band The Mushroom River Band. Really good stoner rock.

2) Another Way to Shine
3) Ad Astra
4) Mantra III
5) Return to Zero

Love Spiritual Beggars. Ad Astra and Mantra III are my favorites. The rest of the catalog is a toss up.
I really love this band but I miss so much the voice of Spice. Band of Spice continues the vibe of the first albums, recommend

Great band and interesting ranking. For me JB was their best vocalist and Demons and On Fire are the albums i gravitate to. All good though.
Good band.😃👍
