You're a superstar!
Thank you, you saved the day!!!!
Thanks!. I couldn’t listen… gets me crazy when someone goes on and on. And these look like some good tips.
The quit while you’re ahead might be the one best advice I haven’t heard anywhere else but might be life changing. When I finally get started decluttering I think that I won’t be motivated like this ever again. So I go super hard for a few days and then crash. I’ve ignored everyone and everything else, still feel like I’m not done, have cabin fever and feel lonely, and think I never want to do it again. I tell myself next Time I’ll pace myself but I’m scarred so don’t declutter for a while. And the cycle continues until I get so sick of piles that I want to declutter EVERYTHING all at once. 🙄.
Thank you that’s the best way to use a timer really. To make sure I stop while I’m ahead.
Tip #2 was an A-HAAAA for me!!
It’s SO easy to sabotage myself by switching from space to space cuz if I find something that doesn’t belong there, then I MUST go rehome it where it does belong…
Soooooo… having this “barrier box” to place those things in until the focus space is completed will absolutely be a game changer for me!
Thanks so much!
Sometimes we just need to hear a different perspective or idea that can minimize some of our ADHD chaos…
Appreciate this!
Within 60 seconds i went through:
I cant wait to get off work so i can get home and start decluttering, i am tired of living in a mess.
I can pre-organize, what are some craft materials i have that i know i can get rid of?
Polymer clay. Havent touched it in 2 years, dont have the time to dedicate.
I can sell it or gove it away If i decide to try again later i can buy more.
Well actually, some ofbthe stuff i made years ago was actially pretty good. Maybe its a natural tallent. And if i get rid of the clay then i cant make xyz that is clay AND resin...
Hmm, i should probably keep the clay.
Like...DUDE WTF. How do i live like this 😭💔
Dear parents!
When Your kids are very good behaviour all the time and always taking good care of their things, keeping their rooms very clean, loving their favorite things and want to make nice childhood collections of their things: books, clothes, toys, video games, clothes, DVDs and etc, then donataing is very wrong thing to do. If You have few space then storage boxes and shelves will help You out and Your kids will be very happy and thankful then, if they can keep their favourite things. Childhood things are very valuable and it is very sad, if they won’t see them anymore in their life. Every child should have the right to keep their things, if they can take good care of them all the time!!!
Respectfully,
Astra Viil ☺️🙏
When you make a video for people with adhd and wait 2 minutes plus to get to point #1, you've already failed many of them.
it took so much strength to not scrub through 😂 im glad i didnt but holy cow
I actually enjoyed the beginning (i was also doing my laundry at the same time so maybe that’s why?)
OMG! You have got that right. I though she'd never get to the point. I had to play the vidio in double time speed. By the time she got to tip 0:01 number one she already lost me . I was switching to another device so i could write under your comment. I can hear her chattering in the background but I'm wrapped up in writing this 😂 I've had ADD since before they had a name for it. 70 years. Thanks for your comment. it gave me something to do.
Amen!!!! I couldn’t finish!
More than 6 minutes....
Honestly, ADHD has ruined my life
It's scary how you are describing how I am every day.
Awww, don’t beat self up. Peeps with ADHD are incredibly creative!! I bet you can find a ton of great accomplishments in your life that stemmed from having your unique creativity. ;)
@@GigisGems8 the adhd undermines the creativity. And ritalin destroyed mine still havent recovered. Its nice of you to see the positives, but disorganisation often prevents the creativity from either happening at all, or from going further than our heads or house. And trying to be normal (functioning in ways others take totally for granted, eg domestically or body care,) can drain us too far, to be creative.
Men traditionally had slave type wives. They could be the mad scientist or artist . They never had to run a house as well! They didnt have to even pick up after themselves!
Adhd people need a "wife", in that sense. And they are hard to come by... And deserve better treatment than they / we traditionally got. I have been a wife, but i needed one myself! I am straight. Not talking about sex. Just the overall domestic and life management help.
Being my own wife, has wiped me out : ( i miss my artistic and musical abilities..
Yup, here is an ADHDer that used to have a big clutter monster at home 😅 Still have some mess but it's better than it used to be.
Sometimes, a 15 min "clean with me" video works pretty well as a timer. You can put some video as background noise, and when the video ends, you stop what you are doing. Or it could also be a 15 min podcast episode, or 4 songs, or something like that... All those things can serve as timers and help to keep attention
I watched because of family member, but I learned some great tips even for me. Thank you.
I do and it got worse with the years ( ADD) this hoarding.
The strange paradox is that I do a job that demand a lot of concentration and precision.
Same…accounting and now an analyst. It’s a struggle😅. I hope things are going a little better for you!
Step one clean out a laundry basket.
#6 and #8 are my biggest decluttering barriers, but ALL you mentioned applies to me. I have implemented some of these tips, but I am going to practice them all. I have also found that listening to audiobooks (free on Libby app) helps me to stay focused while I work through my to-do list. Thanks for these great tips!
Thanks for your comment - so glad you found it helpful!
#2 and #7
I'm a professional. I never heard better more sound advice in my life or career. Thank you. You just helped a helper.
Your advice might be better than what a medical doctor could provide because they are simply not equipped with the data and experience you are.
❤
Do you have help in oregon?
With that loooooooooooooooooong intro my adhd brain is already zoned off at min. 1.40..... if you know so much about adhd you would know to keep your intro short....plz just give us the tips already. Patiently waiting.
For me, the most difficult part is working up the willpower to just start. I would know there are so many things I need to do, I can break them down to small manageable tasks, I can write it all down in a satisfying list, but I simply can't make myself start. Apparently, binging decluttering videos until those routines are projected into my brain helps. Even more so, it helps to find an actually inspirational person to emulate (like there's this one quirky wonderful artsy guy who can talk for hours about ironing his damn vintage kitchen towels with such passion and love, and guess what? my home is a mess but at least my kitchen linen is ironed (I hate ironing and only do it under duress otherwise) )
looking for inspiration is super helpful, i make moodboards etc. for example and hang them as motivation (but im also ok if i don’t achieve it perfectly, îm past that stage 😂)
I give myself up to 5 seconds to start the next step on something after i have the thought. Often helps
The biggest problem I have with clutter is not knowing what to get rid of and what to keep. I'll look at each individual thing and feel pangs of guilt for buying it and not wanting to get rid of it but not wanting to keep it. I only have a two room apartment with one closet so limiting myself to one room is not the problem. Setting a timer doesn't work because it can take me 10 minutes just to get started and then what am I supposed to do, just stop and put everything back in the mess that I started with? I think clutter is more psychological than physical and your solutions are more physical, going around the problem rather than getting to the heart of it: WHAT do I get rid of???
I've Just watched/listened to a podcast from Clutterbug and she interviewed someone about how you can use your personal core values to declutter your home.
And I also find a lot of great advice and tips in the videos of the minimal mom. For example: the real cost of clutter, fantasy self items, what if thinking, etc.
There are many Videos on ADHD and Decluttering with different coaches/TH-camrs. Keep watching, learning, trying, you WILL find things to help you
👍🏻 I like the basket and the time limit strategies! It’s less overwhelming. And once you break the inertia, you can build momentum.
Yes I’m super creative. Lots of interests. I’m wanting to start a business but I have some many things I love. And niche is key 🙄😊
I wanted you to know that this is the absolute best video I’ve found (and I’ve searched high and low) on decluttering or just task accomplishment in general. I really am blown away with how practical and encouraging this is.
It’s really too hard for me to journal. I can’t focus. I have a dozen notebooks all over the place. I can never find the one I need.
I took a full dose of Adderrall for the first time and I cleaned, cluttered, caulk and re painted some baseboards.
My home appeared so unkempt that I couldn’t stop cleaning from 8am until wee hours of the night
My body hurt so bad then I ended up with the flu on top of the soreness I had.
I’m still recovering but I feel better about all the little gross areas and bothered me so bad.
I’m wanting to throw my whole life away. 😢
Thank you for the video.
I just want to start again and do the things I'm interested in.
7:00 if timers are unpleasant, put on a playlist and declutter for one or two songs.
(Any longer and you might drift into distraction.) 😘💞✨
Wonderful tips, thank you.
FYI- video was a bit long for an ADHD’er
Very good advice, thank you! 😊
Wow, I came across this video a just the right time. I am going to be spending a lot of time watching your videos .
Thanks so much!
Oh my goodness!! I can’t tell you how much this helped me today!! I am at a loss on what to do and where to start to get my home in a comfortable environment for myself and my family! (I am diagnosed ADHD, as well as my 9yo son, annnd I’m pretty sure my fiancé is too 🤪)
Our house is just filled with random doom piles everywhere; when I’d try to make a change and then get burnt out VERY quickly.
I had hit that dreaded wall, and it SUCKS. But the tip you mentioned that is helping me right now, particularly, is to quit while I’m ahead. So that’s what I’m doing….and scheduling time tomorrow when I get off work to pick up where I left off.
Thank you so much! Looking forward to more of your content!
Thankyou! Am starting...
this video was too long for someone with adhd
I agree. I want to say, “too late” when she said she wanted to keep it short and sweet. I couldn’t listen. Thank God for the list someone put up.
These tips were super helpful, thank you.
😅It never ends!! THE clutter laundry, dust!!!
I feel that! On that train of thought...I'd also add dishes. 🤣😭😂
Great video! Thank you very much :)
Really good advice
Great video!
Thank you❤❤❤❤❤
Yes
my favorite is journal
All great tips. 👍
Keeping Track: very effective for me.
Added Keeping Track tools:
Weigh everything that leaves, keep track on a fridge door tally.
20kg to charity, 10kg to the tip....
Also helps you analyse - are you unrealistically saving too much for charity?
My favourite:
Photograph the focus space beforehand and WhatsApp it to your Clutter Buddy, clearly stating your 10-minute objective ("my bed will be made and all the clothes on it will be in the wardrobe or the laundry hamper").
Send an update photo at the 10-minute mark, and if you continue, send them at 10-minute intervals. No text conversation permitted, but your Buddy can send you a heart or a thumbs up, and congratulate you later!
You can stop any time and start again the next day.
I totally agree with "quit while you're ahead"!
When you finish, journal and share it with your Clutter Buddy - it's a good incentive to journal.
First video out of 3 I’ve watched that stated get straight to the point…all other 3 video were made by folks with adhd but just rambled and talked about setting 50 million alarms. 😂 what?!
No 8 but all are helpful! Thanks. Revere Bigham 🌞
Not ADHD but mom and sister to ADHD.. it drove me nuts as a kid and still does with being a parent. I have to live with my family members having it and it is a real struggle. I have my limits because my kids have ADHD and I know I have to be patient and calm and let them discover what is best for them.. I find myself struggling with the clutter.
It's a challenging situation to be in, for sure. Have you been evaluated as well, since it often runs in families? If your sister & your children have been diagnosed, there's a real possibility you have it too. There are multiple types, so it can appear very different between individuals. Especially between genders. It's generally much more externally obvious in males, through displays of hyperactivity & behavior "issues". Females tend to have more internalized "quiet" characteristics, such as a lack of focus(& staying on track with what's most important), organization, planning & task execution/completion. I apologize if I'm rambling on about info that you're already aware of. However,I do encourage you to reach out for support if you feel you're really struggling(whatever that may look like for you). I wish you peace, happiness & the best of luck! 💙💜💙
13:33 🙏💞✨Thank you so much! In the past, I have killed passions with hyper fixation followed by burn out! 🔥✨ This is great advice for most of my tasks, especially ones I want to continue to love. 😅💞✨
I think all of this information is great. But I think it could be broken up into a couple of videos because I already know the benefits, I just want to hear the tips 😭
Glad to find you, & appreciate.. & that you said short & sweet.. Seems long winded to me so far.. Yes, more stuff/clutter can be more distractable. 1 sentence, point made. Did anyone make a list of the points please.. Or I have to listen to it all? Thanks anyway & good luck everyone
Start at 8 minutes. If you move your finger across the line at the bottom, it tells the tip she is talking about then
Nothing seems to work for me anymore….
And I am all or nothing which is overwhelming
6 and a half minutes until the first point?? You’re talking to ADHD people here, for the love!
my home is my pack back
I eventually gave up and scrolled through the Chapter headings.
Visuals would help
A room:
1. Throw away al trash in the room
2. Do the dishes
3. Move all clutter to a box
4. Clean
5. Empty the box
I THINK this might work... today
i was told that iam hyper active and to move slow reall inside my mnd moves a leval slwer then normal somethng once ago inspired to move move foreawrd and wanted to move fsast wth time and was told a mini segnebt on im and patiemce bit to stay normal hyper to me is normal ok
Feedback: You should make bullet points of your main talking points before you make videos for your own reference. You're repeating points because you're free talking...people have busy lives. To build a following, value people's time and become and expert at being concise.
👍
❤

Good video but not applicable to ADHD. Please meet people with ADHD and see how they operate.
7 minutes to the first tip, way too long for me!
oh….my ….word ….she did not get to tip #1 until 6:39. That must be some sort of record.
I have adhd and I had a very hard time with this video. If you’re making a video for someone with focus issues, it needs to be short, concise, and to the point. The second thing I had an issue with is just because we have adhd does not mean we are children. I found the tone to be very condescending. We are fully functioning, intelligent people. We just have trouble with clutter. As someone who just applied to PhD programs, I found it hard to watch because this is how I would talk to a four year old. I would never tell a colleague what she can put in a basket. 😂
Anyone else here a continual low electronic hum through the entire video? Making it difficult to concentrate.
Too long. Im at 4 mins and im done watching. Im sure you have great tips but theres to much talking
🤣🤣🤣 You’re not off to a very good start, first of all you talk way too slow & take too long to get to the point. People with ADHD are not only extremely creative, we are usually incredibly intelligent. Probably shouldn’t talk to us like we’re two year olds.🤦🏻♀️😅 Hope this helps. 🥴✌🏼🤣
You can always go to settings and speed it up!! ❤
11? How bout like 5....
ADHD is not just being easily distracted.
I get the feeling this content creator doesn't have ADHD themselves because they don't seem to understand that.
Wow i thought this would finally help…
1 min 57 secs in and I’m already over it.
Sorry you maybe trying to help but get straight to the point…
And the plants…….
Too much talk
Oh my tooooooooooo much talking before you get to a tip to help 😢
"Special breed"; wow, how patronising. "11..count them"; just to let you know that people with adhd can numerically count.
I Love it IT IS very helpful. One of the best and clearest Video in decluttering🎉❤Thank you😊🌸🤹
