India has summoned Canada's deputy High Commissioner in New Delhi to register protest over pro-Khalistan chants at an event attended by prime minister Justin Trudeau. New Delhi has accused Canada of giving space to separatists and extremists. On Sunday, videos of a Vaisakhi rally in Toronto showed Trudeau and Canada's Leader of the Opposition being welcomed with slogans of "Khalistan Zindabad". Trudeau has refused to crack down on pro-Khalistan elements to court the Sikh vote bank and maintain his alliance with Jagmeet Singh, a pro-Khalistan leader.
