    This man's work ethic is something to behold. His knowledge and physical ability to drop out the gear boxes like they are paperweights shows just how strong he is. Most people would say this is a two man job. He does it all himself and makes it look easy. The price quoted for the work done was extremely reasonable. It was a pleasure Kevin I will be recommending you to friends and family. Anyone that is in need of a clutch replacement do not hesitate to choose this man.

    Excellent video with no BS music or waste-of-time intro where we're all forced to stare at your face. This man is extremely skilled. I drastically underestimated the weight of my trans and ease of reinstallation after watching this 😂. Stellar. Your one hour to my 3 days is outrageously funny.

    This is soooooo helpful. I'm a 70 yo and I will be doing this job soon. I have the confidence of a 2003 TDI ALH timing belt so I'm ready. It is surprising how forgiving the motor mounts are. I'm going to support the engine just the way you have but will use a strap of some kind and my cherry picker engine lift to support the transmission as I guide it out and down. Thank you so much for sharing your excellent work!

    I found this video while searching for info. My daughters VW Bora 1.9TDi has just lost 1st & 2nd gear. Looks like it's a common fault with a rivet shearing on the 1/2 selector drum, this means the box has to come out to fix it.... your video is most helpful, thank you.

    Nice job. Years ago I replaced the clutch on a 1985, 1.6 diesel. What you did here was way more work than what I had to do. I like the way you don't waste time with a torque wrench...just do everything up tight 😃

    I used this video, along with a couple of others, as a guide to replacing the DMF and clutch in my 2008 Golf Plus 1.9TDI. It's a very straightforward job, the real issue is the weight of the gearbox. I had no idea of just HOW heavy those things are until I'd reached the point of no return getting it off. Gravity helps getting it out, but it also made it impossible for me to lift it back into place while lying on my back, so I had to call a mobile mechanic to do that part for me. One of those low-profile transmission jacks aimed at DIYers would have made it a one-person job - or months in the gym building up muscle tone :)

    Cooool! What a job mate! As always, love watching you working.
    I did a small welding repair earlier for a friend, he's really happy with the fix.
    It's very satisfying completing a good job, mending something broken and not let it go to a scrapyard.
    Know matter how old the vehicle is surely scrapping them is more detrimental to the planet, keeping making new ones like.
    Keep it going Pal, top work.

    Great video as always! How would you compare this to a Peugeot 3008 1.6L Diesel? The Peugeot was straight hell, so I hope my Golf will be somewhat easier😂

    Nice video, but I have to ask the question, why did you drain the gearbox oil, there’s no need to drain the gearbox oil as the two driveshafts are bolted to flanges by 6x large bolts on each driveshaft and the drive flanges stay in the gearbox after the box is removed..

    • @WMCS
      @WMCS  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The flange was removed.

    • @Rayfaedundee
      @Rayfaedundee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WMCS but you don’t have to remove the flange, the gearbox can be removed by turning the gearbox and tilting it to clear the engine block , although removing the flange does make it easier,

      @@Rayfaedundee he drains the oil because it’s much lighter to lift and when he takes the shaft flanges out it won’t spill 👍

    Kevin, another wonderful job and informative video. I do have a question. I did the clutch job on my 2000 golf 2.0 mk4 following your videos. I drained and filled the gear box once before and again when I replaced the clutch. On both occasions it only took one and a half quarts of fluid, not 2 quarts. My question is, do I need to fill from the reverse sensor to get in the additional half quart? I know you're the most experienced person who can recommend the best solution for this issue. Thanks for your continued instructions.

      Yes. Sometimes if it’s not on a flat angle it will spill a bit. So reverse switch or my preferred method is through the breather at the top of gearbox. But you need a syringe for that.
