Agree!! Only an idiot would do that. The time, this blue thing came, was something. I remember new Pioneer home stereosystems with blue display. I was ready to kill to get one. I had Pioneer KEH-5800 car stereo. It was a freakin cool thing to have.

I can see all these people whining about a changed color scheme and wonder. Why are you bashing at him for such thing? It's just a matter of preference. The tutorial itself is great. both, clear and detailed. And you can change to stronger LEDs of ANY color. it's not like it won't work of you keep the previous color scheme but with stronger LEDs...

At the time this video was filmed, your odometer reading was 240K. I'm interested in understanding what major maintenance has been done to the vehicle to sustain its reliability. Would you mind making a video about this topic or replying to this comment with that information? I see in a couple of your videos that you performed a lot of cosmetic maintenance that does not necessarily fall into the category of sustained reliability, but is still nice to have, and was performed with a high degree of care and attention to detail which I also appreciate. I'm the original owner and only driver of a 2004 VW GTI VR6. The car has 151K miles currently and my intent is to keep it running reliably for 300K miles. This of course requires a lot of maintenance. I'm prioritizing everything under the hood and undercarriage first, for reliability purposes. Cosmetics will be second in a couple years.

If you are doing this because of a faulty LED (and not to change colors) and you live near any salvage yards you can grab a used instrument cluster for 30 - 80 bucks usually. Eye Doctors report that little extra brightness in white lights helps prevent pupils from fully dilating, helping your eyes adjust better to those hideous LED headlights that blind everybody. Also love the fact I can read my dash during the daylight. Great job on the video so where do you get the work light for savaging white leds?

He used SMD 5050 for his project, but if you want to use original size for this dash i think that is SMD 3528. Also be careful to buy right led with right white color temperature. For me "Cool White" look much better for dash.

Neither of my plastic rods work and the LEDs do seem quite dim, I've just bought the car recently so if I'm going to attempt one I might aswell attempt both
Would this not be an issue with the button behind the rods though?

I think the white light is better. But that it is too bright. It makes the numbers less visible and it looks like it's making it blurry. Nevertheless, your skill and hard work is appreciated. I thought it was much harder to do. Soldering can be tricky, but with a clean tip you can do a lot.

It seems that all of those comments are more likely from people that uses the car for short trips on daylight or even shorter at night. I drive a T4 Transporter with the same dash like 1200km in day an night and I can tell you that it is after a while of driving in the night, it will disturb you! Those blue colors will become annoying after 4-5 hours of driving in the night without lightning on the highway. Your eyes will also see blue on the highway and the darkness. Because of that and for my safety, I dim those lights and it is less disturbing!
After that, I saw some video's from Volkswagen some time ago, they have them own testing facility where they test the lightning on the dash and also the instrument cluster! After some research of VW, they said that white and red are the colors that are least disturbing and more clearer to read. So why are those people commenting here screaming about originality!? Yes they are original and beautiful, but even that is no reason to scream here. And ather that all, why do you think that VW has changed them to white/red?
The owner of this vid didn't upload it so you MUST change it!? He is like you and me free of modifying his car and he's doing good here! I came here to check how the cluster is been removed, changing the leds of it and putting it back on it's place!? It's a freakin' good helpful vid!
