    It sounds like battery companies are becoming the new powerhouse behind the motor industry. They could decide which manufactures get great batteries and what cost. The battery manufactures are really holding the keys.

    Zeekr remains somewhat under the BEV radar. Reviewers love the cars, but their profile hasn't blown up, as yet. If the cars are as good as reviewers say they won't remain hidden for too long.

      Ooooh...what a wonder. It took Tesla from 2003 to 2020 to really blow up...and that only happened with the help of Western media and western social media.
      Zeekr? Established in 2021...within 2 years better known than Tesla from 2003 to 2019.
      Also: ie really doesn't matter what's the hype in Western Europe and the USA. They aren't even 500 million combined.
      Asia: 4.61 billion.
      Africa: 1.4 billion.
      South and Central America: 667 million.
      Slavic countries: over 700 million.

      I can see more and more Zeekr cars on the streets of Shenzhen now. Since the price is similar to Tesla (which is very popular in Shenzhen) but it is way more luxury for the same money, air suspension etc so it seems to be i a high demand now and becoming like a 5th popular brand, after BYD, TESLA, GAC, LI auto

    Sam, the Qilin battery isn't CATL's newest battery. And it's not named Quirin as you pronounce it but XEE-LIN
    The newest battery is the Shenxing.
    By the way:
    Q in Chinese is western X like in Xenophobia.
    X in Chinese is like Sh like in shout.

    I´m a little bit confused: yesterday I saw an episode where you explained that BYD´s blade battery system was the best available on the market and that based on tests by Tesla range etc. was higher than with the CATL battery. Today I hear you telling that CATL has the best battery technology....

      Blade batteries are safer, and the energy density of batteries in the Ningde era is higher.

    Why aren't there more options for EV mini vans, EV small pickup trucks, or solar paneled vehicles? There are enough hatchbacks/sedans.

      Viking doesn't like Nio as he always compares it to Tesla and he's a Tesla fan. A big one. Nio will not launch in US but it's technology is most unique of all the makes. The only car available outside China to have Battery Swapping it's most Unique technology is one of a kind and unchallenged.

    Range is not that important for 90% of us day to day. How often does anyone need to drive say, 500 miles without a break, whether fuel or food?

    Is Geely's preference to farm out battery development to CATL and others the right approach? Nothing is certain at this stage. BYD, Tesla, SAIC, GAC, DongFeng and Toyota view battery development and production as indispensible parts of the technical and manufacturing base of a vertically integrated EV automaking business.
    NIO, VW, Mercedes-Benz, Ford and GM likewise see battery manufacturing as key to the success of their businesses. They are, however, exploring the use of JVs and technology licensing agreements to rapidly lift their battery manufacturing capabilities.
    I suspect that CATL will customise its batteries for clients but designing and building one's own might be the more economical and focused approach.

    Ev ipos should collect say $1 billion and invest that money in the stock market. A good money manager can earn $100 million real a year. If they invest 50 million in products, even if they have no revenue they can go on forever. Thus they can make an ev that costs $100,000 and sell it for $10,000 and still turn a profit off their investments. Then they can spend time to improve it. They may lower the cost to $30,000 and sell 5,000 for $20,000 and still turn a profit. Then cut costs more.

    Whilst BYD seems to taking over I would never purchase one primarily due to the huge servicing cost . There are no filters(cabin excepted) no oil, no engine, and yet their deal with Mycar showslarge servicing cost for the Atto 3 one being almost $600.
    How does this compare to other vehicles eg Tesla model 3
