I'm not sure why, but I can't watch this horse without weeping and my heart pounding.....I think it must be the glory of God. Thank you for posting these videos.
Secretariat is my #1 race horse. Nobody is as good as him. I love him like my own life. And I still remember the time when I first saw him run. . .what a thrill. My heart just skips a beat once he gets the lead by 3/4 lengths. I am SOO glad that producers are making a movie about him, he deserves it as much as anybody.
Secretariat gives me goosebumps every time i watch him run. He looks so powerful and strong it kinda gives you hope and confidence that you can do anything. I
Oh how I remember this day so well ... way back in October 1973. My family and I (was a kid back then) went to Woodbine for Big Red's final race. The track was SO unbelievably crowded, the weather was cold, raining, windy, nasty. But it was worth it to see Secretariat win his final race. None of us were disappointed, it will be in our memories forever. The buzz-on at Woodbine that day was unbelievable.... everyone in the track was in a good mood, very excited and upbeat to Big Red.
The most loved, cherished, fastest horse of all time. Thank you for sharing this video, what a prividged we have to be able view history in the making.
I wonder how the Canadiens felt when Secretariat blazed by their super horse Kennedy Road like he was standing still? Classic moment when the announcer says "Here he comes and he's all yours" before he crosses the finish line. I was 8 when Secretariat retired and my grandmother told me to take a good look at him because I'll never see another one like him! How correct she was!
Just a couple of comments in response to some of the things said by others. First, I read somewhere that his stride covered 25 feet. Second, although he only ran a couple of races on the turf, his trainer said he ran even better on grass than dirt. And finally, Turcotte said that riding him was the easiest of any other horse he rode. I prefer to think that after this race Secretariat just sprouted wings and flew away to Heaven where he runs today.
Fantastic footage. Thanks so much for sharing. Seeing Secretariat round the corner like a locomotive with steam shooting from his nostrils is a wonderful sight. Such an amazing horse. I wish I could have seen him in person.
if he would have run in Europe he would have kick butts over there too he was the HORSE sent by the gods to us here in America to enjoy him, iwas 23 when he won the Belmont not knowing that history was in the making,I LOVE YOU SEC. & I DEARLY MISS YOU.
I was 13 when I saw Secretariat win the TC.. I never seen this race. Thanks for putting it up! I get goose bumps sometimes tears when I see these races. The Belmont for sure.
This video is so special. It catalogues history in all its glory and breath-taking splendour. To actually see and listen to people, to see the way it really was. Amazing. Needs to shared so everyone can grasp the enormity of it.
I don't know why but I am still in love with this guy, 54 yrs old now and saw him at Woodbine , his last race, I was 15....remember what I was wearing and remeber it was a rainy Sunday in Toronto.....I am now reading the book by Bill Nack, had a ticket for years and can't find it however I do have to tell you he was something special....There has to be a reason I still think of him..........Good Good Boy!!
I think I have watched everything on the web about the magnificent horse! I am in awe of him I was too young to remember him in his prime but wow, he was the 'man'!!
I was 13 when I watched all of the TC races as well as this one on TV. Nothing personified hard work and the drive to win like this superstar of superstars. Secretariat's trainer Lucien Laurin and jockey Ron Turcotte were Canadians and so it is very fitting that his final race was run on Canadian soil. Too bad Ron didn't get the opportunity to ride. Nevertheless those Canadian ties made Canadians very proud. Allowing Secretariat to be showcased in Canada for his final race was a classy decision by Penny. She should be granted honorary Canadian citizenship.
This is awesome. I was three at the Preakness. Used to have a poster in my bedroom of him. Awesome show you found brother. Thank you. "He'd run on broken bottles..." Awesome!!!
@cf1970 Thank you so much for posting this wonderful video, what a fitting tribute to the greatest race horse of all time, seeing Big Red run bring tears to my eyes as well...what a great horse!
I wasn't alive when Secretariat ran but I can't watch him run without getting teary-eyed. I was lucky enough to meet him twice and will always be some of my favorite memories. He was amazing.
I don't know where you find these videos, CF, but thank you so much for posting these. Honestly, watching Secretariat run brings tears to my eyes. I can't imagine what it must have been like to see him run in person. Jeannie
What an awe-inspiring, majestic being!! Truly a one of a kind horse whose first love was speed. I almost believe he could've sprouted wings!! Secretariat most certainly DOES have his wings now.
I was there on this day. My parents made the drive up from Buffalo. I was only 13 so I honestly don't remember much. I just feel fortunate that I saw his last race in person. Love your videos CF. Can't wait for the movie this fall.
I am the proud owner of a Secretariat great grandson. His race name is Apres Midi...but we call him Kelso :) Woodbine, Tbred, May 23, Race 4 My horse is number 8....races just as good as his great grandpappy :)
The part I love is when he is coming out of the far turn into the stretch. Huge puffs of steam leaves his nostrils,he looked like a big red train. That image is what I see when I think of this dude. Also Eddie Maple didn't need to use his syick, but he must have caught up with awe riding this incredible red horse.
Janice.....saw Big Red at Woodbine, Toronto, Mississauga.......Just because, I saw him at 15, 16 years old....Secritariat was an amazing animal...I bought a special hat with pin on cherries in the Oct rain...and I am so glad everyone remembers him...I never cashed in my BIG RED ticket.......But love to all the Babes Janice PS Don't forget Northern Dancer....Avelino Gomez...Seabisuit. Barbaro.Sandy Hawley or anyone...I am just a part timer with racing but I DID see him....Janice
I think it's fun that Secretariat won this race with Eddie Maple onboard and had the blanket of roses with the Canadian Maple leaf thrown over his shoulders. :)
Kennedy ROAD was the 2 year old champion in Canada he was the best there & yet secretariat play with them even with his bad legs there are many champions in their own time WAR ADMIRAL,NOTHERN DANCER,AFFIRME ALSO HAD THEIR OWN QUALITIES IN THEIR TIME BUt none had what sec.had the gift that only was given the immortals like secretariat he ran from 5 to a 1& 1/2 miles in any kind of surf in todays racing world there none comparable to him even if they made hybrid secretariat would have smoken them too people do not realize even today that secretariat was no ordinary horse frankel & other EUROPEAN horses they just don't get it because they never saw sec.when I was at Belmont I did not bet I was there to see something that I would never see again in my life time or in any other time those who were lucky to see greatness know what am talking about for he belong to us even for a shot period of time.after all what is left but memories .
you watch him.... in the stretch.... just a full gallop, not even going all out and still beat the best 3 and 4 yr olds in Europe and North America. Secretariat never raced more than 85 or 90% of his capacity.
Love your comedy... "did he steal it off his sleeping niece?" I chuckled every time I saw that coat. Also, agree what a great lady Penny Tweedy comes off as. Secretariat, what a spectacular horse.
She became a jockey in 1969, winning the Paumonok Handicap at Aqueduct in 1973 riding North Sea. She became the first woman to win a major race in the USA. At 5' 7", she was taller and heavier than most jockeys. She retired from racing in 1980. That same year, she married actor Fred Astaire. She was 45 years his junior. She remained married to Astaire until his death in 1987.
@jdp4224 I sawBig Red at Woodbine and every time I watch this Video I cry...He was just as amazing as you could have ever imagined..It was Oct 73 Woodbine...I bet 2 dollars and never cashed the ticket in....I keep looking for me and my friend marg mckenzie in the crowd...i was just about to turn fifteen and I still remember what I was wearing on that sunday at woodbine...I think he knows we all loved him Janice
I was sorry that Secretariat's career was so short. I always wanted him to go to France and run in the Arc de Triomphe and to England and run in the Darby.
GREAT , speacially touching seeing and interview to Secretariats trainner< Be proud man< hope hes doing good !! thanks for this tremendous vid !!! GBless
What couldn't this horse do? My God! He won on off tracks, dirt and turf and not just beating a bunch of nags. He beat Champions on their surface and was only a 3 year old when he did it.
someone said Riva ridge did not exist well here is the proof 1969 to 1985 , Secretariat, ridden by Turcotte, defeated Riva Ridge, ridden by Eddie Maple. During their careers both horses wore the blue and white checkers of Meadow Stable.
Boy, that Penny Tweedy -- she is as forminable as her horse. It's a fairly dull film (except for that sportwriter's coat -- did he steal it off his sleeping niece?), but she has the sharpest thing to say before the race, and manages at all times to avoid cliché. What a dame!
How strange to see Robyn Smith as most Americans knew her as Mrs.Fred Astaire. Robyne Smith was born Melody Dawn Miller. Her biological father deserted her and her mother at her birth. Her mother was 17 when she was born. Melody's mother was declared mentally unstable and Melody was placed in a foster home. She was adopted and renamed Caroline Smith.
I think the powers behind American horse racing were what... resentful? of the Turcotte's achievements w/ Secretariat. Other jockeys are fm other countries, but U.S. always looked upon Canada as our little "brother" or less than U.S. They gave Laffit Pincay the award in 1973 (can't think of name at the moment, Eclipse?) bcse he was 1st to win $4Mill, instead of to Turcotte/Secretariat for winning TC after 25 yrs, and the WAY S did it, in each race. Bill Nack made scathing comment on this.
Thank you, Penny, for believing in Big Red and YOURSELF. May you both RIP together.
I'm not sure why, but I can't watch this horse without weeping and my heart pounding.....I think it must be the glory of God. Thank you for posting these videos.
Theres something about watching this horse that just brings tears to my eyes so beautiful
Secretariat was the best race horse that ever lived. His beauty, strength, speed and his big heart will never be forgotton.. RIP Secretariat...
Greatest horse that ever was and ever will be.
Greatest horse I ever had the opportunity to see. Watching him run was nothing but magical.
Secretariat is my #1 race horse. Nobody is as good as him. I love him like my own life. And I still remember the time when I first saw him run. . .what a thrill. The horse is magic in motion. Had we never had Secretariat as a yardstick to measure greatness, we would not know what greatness is.

Very good movie tribute to Secretariat...!!!!
It bring tear to my eyes.
Secretariat deserved it ...!!!! Beautiful
There will NEVER be another Secretariat! PERIOD!!!!!!
The way he toys with Keneddy Road is incredible! Bye Bye baby!
There can be only one secretariat.
I just watched the movie; which was stunning. Watching this brought tears to my eyes. Just amazing...

Its a pitty that you are gone Big Red. ..
I love you and you live in our heart....Love you soooo much :* :(
Secretariat, just a magnificent horse. One of a kind.
This was a great documentary. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it!! What a great last race for the greatest horse that ever lived!
Fantastic footage. Thanks so much for sharing. Seeing Secretariat round the corner like a locomotive with steam shooting from his nostrils is a wonderful sight. Such an amazing horse. I wish I could have seen him in person.
I have watched this so many times and get emotional every time. It is always our hope to work like him, with a glorious finish.

8:17. Always loved Darrel Wells “there off” call. Spent many days at woodbine with my nana and even met me wells

I can hear Big Red now when he was pacing behind Kenndy Road..."I'm right here...stilll here...peek a boo.....and here I come...and go!!
What a wonderful video, thanks for the memories, he was such a wonderful horse, amazing, Michele.
What breeding, what care he got, what a horse! Thanks for sharing...it was very enjoyable and memorable.
I think I have watched everything on the web about the magnificent horse! I am in awe of him I was too young to remember him in his prime but wow, he was the 'man'!!
I saw secretariat run once and it was breathtaking.
Never before , never since, never again , a horse like Big Red " Secretariat" ...
I was 13 when I watched all of the TC races as well as this one on TV. Nothing personified hard work and the drive to win like this superstar of superstars. That wasn't air coming out of Secretariat, that was friggin diesel fuel!
This is awesome. I was three at the Preakness. Used to have a poster in my bedroom of him. Awesome show you found brother. Thank you. "He'd run on broken bottles..." Awesome!!!
"It's all Secretariat", yes, doesn't that say it all! Thanks very much for all your videos. I enjoy watching them over and over.
@cf1970 Thank you so much for posting this wonderful video, what a fitting tribute to the greatest race horse of all time, seeing Big Red run bring tears to my eyes as well...what a great horse!
He made it look ridiculously easy. :)
Yeah, this little gem is so often overlooked. Isn't this the race that he was declared "a living locomotive"?
Never before ,never since, never again,a horse like Secretariat!!!!
You know your a Super Star!! When your the only horse who comes onto the track with two police escorts..
he is truely the greatest horse that ever lived.
I wasn't alive when Secretariat ran but I can't watch him run without getting teary-eyed. I was lucky enough to meet him twice and will always be some of my favorite memories. He was amazing.

CF thanks for sharing - I love Big Red......again thanks!!

I'm sure I'll watch it no less than 5/6 times in the next couple of days.

Secretariat is awesome.

Thanks for posting this. It was great. Goosebumps.
Kennedy road might have been a "Cadillac" but Secretariat was a Corvette!!
like piloting a jet.
Love your comedy... "did he steal it off his sleeping niece?" I chuckled every time I saw that coat. Also, agree what a great lady Penny Tweedy comes off as. Secretariat, what a spectacular horse.
@09:44 And there he goes! There he goes! RIP Daryl Wells. You were the best.
I do as well. I've watched it a number of times. I can't imagine what being there would have been like!
Nice call: "And there he goes!" Perfect.
9:45. with Mrs penny’s nudge and the call “there he goes”, secretariat was off

so true about the wings
In 'person'? I bet it was fantastic!
Great Videos- Saw the Movie Today & It's a Must See for all but this video is the Real Deal . Thank You for posting.
I was sorry that Secretariat's career was so short. I always wanted him to go to France and run in the Arc de Triomphe and to England and run in the Darby.
God said " Go show 'em how it's done " and Secretariat said " Ok "!
GREAT , speacially touching seeing and interview to Secretariats trainner< Be proud man< hope hes doing good !! thanks for this tremendous vid !!! GBless
He was a "living locomotive", why not let him go out on top? He had nothing else left to prove.
I've just seen the movie....speechless

Obviously these horses were better than those in the Belmont but he still won by a large margin.....
yea i wished the queen was alive and they could produce the prince of the track
Great video. . . Bye Bye Kennedy Road!!!
10:21 I get goosebumps

Agreed
I never get tired of seeing him run. So beautiful. Someone mentioned him changing leads??? When did this take place? Anyone know?
Thank You
wow, robin smyth is legendary!

Would have loved to have pet him.
