      Yes we are fucked.
Yes we should have ordered 72 Rafael instead of 32, by now we would have had all the rafael in our squadron. Rafael should have been out last imported Fighter jet.
We are fucked yes nobody is coming to save us.
Terminate Tejas Mk1 program instead divert that funds for CATS warrior and integrate it with Tejas Mark 2 and Foucs on AMCA

The options for Iaf could be
    1) for short term options could be build up good ground based air defence and offense systems based on missiles/ drones / sensors etc.
    2) for medium term option order more of indigenously built tejas-mark-1a( possibly kaveri engine in the future) and more su-30( preferably in super sukhoi version)
3 ) long term options amca, tejas-mark-2 etc.

    What I understand : -
    1) Tejas mk2 is going to make it's rollout by 2025, first flight by 2026, expected IOC by 2028, then start it's procurement and do in service upgrades to FOC.
    2) AMCA is expected to rollout by 2026, first flight by 2028, then can be inducted with IOC.
    3) We are already working on CATS program, fast track it to get result by decade end. CATS warrior is expected to get rollout this year. The force multiplier can help IAF to get boost.
    4) GHATAK UCAV must be fast tracked in mission mode.
    5) To involve private sector, IAF need to pay more than current price for indigenous options.
    6) We can sustain a long battle only on the basis of indigenous options.

SAMs are getting better and with the Su 57 we will have much better ability to penetrate enemy air space than rafale !! If IAF opts for Su 57 than Russia may agree to supply India first to boost exports!!!

  • @avi_arihant

Subodh, given the capabilities of our enemies, we need 4.5+Gen fighters in sufficient numbers ASAP to maintain even our current relative air power strength. We cannot afford any further delays whether it has man-machine teaming & GaN radars capabilities or not (later upgrades take care of new features, at least partially) Simultaneously, we should negotiate a deal to get F-35s (check out Israel’s air power advtg, no other 5th Gen option is combat tested with promising path for future upgrades & well established supply chains) to create an advantage against our enemies.

  • @avi_arihant
    @avi_arihant 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

Also, import is of course not easy, but our defence establishment has itself to blame for losing several opportunities to acquire best available fighters. They were too sensitive on price while looking for a “perfect “ deal conducting endless negotiations without any outcome. Additionally, they caused further delays by expecting too much too soon from our indigenous fighter dev program. They should be held accountable for the current crisis.

You didn't cover the case of the Gripen E/F: they're promising faster delivery & setting up of local manufacturing. It's anybody's guess how well they will follow-through on that promise, though their performance in Brazil could provide an indicator. One additional advantage of the Gripen E/F is that it also uses the GE F414 engine, so at least we can have commonality there with Tejas Mk2/ TEDBF/ AMCA Mk1. I personally am in favour of twin-engine aircraft, whether imported or local (single engined ones will be insufficient against China), but if that's the only viable option under MRFA...

In my opinion, India should go with the indigenous option as it provides the leverage for modifications and decreases dependency on foreign players. Foreign options can lead to issues with costs and terms and conditions that may cause trouble at any time. An indigenous program, in the long run, offers better adaptability and integration of weapon systems. Yes, Tejas has been delayed, but choosing a foreign platform is not economically viable in the long run and will slow down the indigenous program.

    1. Wish Air Chief Marshal should have known these nuances of the issue when he spoke the other day!!!
    2. Anyway, as it stands, India has no option but to focus full fledged on Tejas I and II, TDBF and AMCA and get them out as planned.
    3. As a tactical response, India must build up massive missile reserves of different kinds to deter Chinese from any misadventure on land border. India should ensure that no aircraft can take off from any of the Tibetan airports. And Army can attack from different points if there is any air attack.
    4. Focus on developing variety of UAVs as a short term response.
    5. If it is viable, IAF can go for lease of a few squadrons of F 35, just like we leased Russian Akulas. This could be a good interim solution but with huge strategic costs!!!!

We are still reliant on foreign vendors for engines, aren't we, then there should be no shame in accepting that tejas and AMCA are duds without engines, If we really need to support these programs thing we as country need to do is to invest in Jet engines, and once we have an engine then we need to start thinking of building an aircraft around it,

Research mean to develop non exist technologies or niche technologies. But DRDO is developing existing technologies. Definately we are reducing import bill, but we are nowhere first in export market. ISRO is become profitable organisation, sameway DRDO should sell their technologies to friendly countries under govt observation.
HAL or other PSU's are just assembler roll. Till now HAL was assembler of Mig, SU or Engines. It is great achievement of HAL when they designed and developed Helicopter, HLFT 42, HTFE 40.
Govt should bid directly with PSUs or private companies with their aspects. It is their headache whether they manufacture with their own technology, DRDO technology or foreign TOT. Govt can give DLI scheme if technology is indigenous.
Defence ministry should give priority on T1 then L1. Procurement process must be digital that no-one can sit on file. Every process to be time bound.

    FIGHTER JETS OPTIONS FOR INDIA:
TEJAS MK1A - still stuck in its "engine issue, design tweak, and weight-loss program" phase.
Tejas Mk2 - still a figment of imagination on the drawing board.
Rafale - thanks to a massive backlog, France has bigger priorities.
F-35 - not even offered, and even if it were, India would still be at the back of a never-ending queue.
Su-57 - stuck in a production limbo, waiting for a new engine, and barely stealth (unless you count wishful thinking as a feature).
AMCA? Just another dream, fueled by flashy animations and over-the-top claims.
And what’s left for India? A museum-worthy collection of second-hand, retired Mirages, Jaguars, and MiG-21s, plus scavenged MiG-29s from around the world. Truly cutting-edge! At this rate, the only thing flying high is the imagination of their defense PR machine.
