Even for us, Spanish speakers, it is difficult to understand or explain to someone the meaning of "se". You have done a wonderful job explaining this tough word. Bravo!
He didn't go out and intentionally burned the rice. The rice got burnt while he was cooking it. Spanish really gets deep and covers every aspect of a situation.

As a professional teacher myself, I want to compliment you! Your vibrant style of teaching keeps me focused on the screen, even during the most boring of subjects. Muchas gracias!, very well done! 👍

Your mannerisms are just so fun to watch, you make learning spanish entertaining!
In a U.S. city with many Spanish speakers, we frequently see signs that say “Aquí se habla español”. That helps me remember one of the many uses of “se”.
That uses to bother me because the English equivalent is “Spanish spoken here” or “We speak Spanish,” none of which literally translates into normal Spanish. I had to learn to think in terms of the ideas, not the literal word for word phasing.
@@larrytruelove8659 Yup, that’s what happens when learning any other language. Me gusta/te gusta/le gusta, etc. is a similar concept. The hardest for me is (if I’ve got this right) “me rompió el brazo (en mi) “.

@@larrytruelove8659 , Spanish is difficult to remember all these!
"Se habla español" because the important thing is the action (verb), not the person that doesnt matter
I've watched 2 other videos and met with a tutor over Zoom. This is the only resource that has made any sense. Thank you, Anna!!

I've taken Spanish lessons in Spain and Mexico, but I never had such a great teacher - tan simpatica. I'm going to follow the entire series. Thank you Anna.
Imagine you in a conversation and you have to rapidly go through in your mind these four variations of when to use the word 'se' before responding. By the time you figured it out the speaker has shifted topics.
I had never noticed that Spanish is very difficult to learn, agradecido con el de arriba por haber nacido en México

@@julesfranko52 Almost. It is a literal way to translate it, but not accurate. The right way is: Muchas gracias maestra, tengo 11 años de edad y amo/me gusta aprender español con usted, muchas gracias. It's a common thing in every translation (in every language), that's why colloquial words or ways to say something in other language are so important. uwu

Ana, I have really enjoyed your videos and go to Butterfly Spanish before any others! 🙂 Now only are they very instructive and helpful, I appreciate your manner of speaking. Sometimes I get a little frustrated with "oversplaining" certain things, but I also stay mindful that the students are at different levels of proficiency. Thank you, Ana, you are the greatest.
Ana, this has been the best lesson that I've seen on the topic of 'SE'!
I really appreciate your effort and intellect!
She’s the best. I have been on this journey for a long time. She teaches in a way native English speakers can understand Spanish.

As an ardent learner of the Spanish language from far off India I would like to thank Anna for her wonderful efforts to help me. For the life of me I DO NOT KNOW how i never noticed this channel before today!!! Truly a remarkable personality and splendid teacher. BRAVO!
just one of the best ever fun methods of teaching "real life" Spanish. Ana, this is just so easy to understand the way you express and show us how to say and understand this beautiful language. I wish French could be taught with a similar set of videos like this as that is a language I just can't get my head around and also would like to learn. Spanish seems so much easier to remember but the real skill is in training the ear to understand the sounds. The additional words you are speaking is an added bonus to us as it really helps in picking the sounds of words up and to relate this to the lesson. Keep up this super work. Tu eres una estrella.

@@BobMarley-bp6sh Hi,
because this is a video dedicated to things like grammar, I don't think it's really inappropriate to correct something someone is saying. I realize that I didn't use the correct accent but I'm well aware that it belonged there. Often times natives don't add accents for whatever reason. In my case, It becomes a hassle. I know how to add accents, but I'd rather get my point across when I'm writing without spending so much time. It's another story if I'm typing in word. There, it is very easy to add a accents and you don't need to memorize 7 number combinations to do it.
For me understanding se is the final boss of Spanish. You explain it really well, thanks! I'll come back to this video if I ever need a recap.

"Se" is the bane of my Spanish learning experience. That and the "personal a". And remembering indirect object pronouns. Oh boy, I think I might be the bane of my Spanish learning experience. Anywho, great video as always!
Lol. So many "if it wasn't for ____ I have this is the bag" situations and it changes like the wind.
For some reason I haven't figured out how to think of the object pronouns. I know they come before the verb but when the sentence continues past the verb I get confused. Like "te voy a ir dejando" that I heard in a song.
I'm going to go you I'm leaving?
I'm going to go I'm leaving you?
I'm going you to go I'm leaving ?
In my mind putting them before the verb breaks my English brain.
@@princelenca524 Thanks for the reply. After making that post I really came to the conclusion that songs are a bad way of gaining grammar but a good way to remember vocabulary. Just thinking about how bad the grammar is in English songs makes it obvious. Grammar is secondary to song flow and sound. You have to hit the rhyme at all cost. lol

Not to be confused with the verb meaning "I know": Sé (with accent over e)
Yo sé tu sabes el/Vd. sabe nosotros sabemos vosotros sabéis ellos/Vds. saben
You just stress it it sounds like you say seeeeee but in se its simple se
Sé is also ser tú command
Or "Sé" of I taste myself. Yo sé a sal means I taste myself like salt
Sé una buena persona.
