After many years, I've noticed some gaps and am finally studying grammar. But I always advise people to do the other things as much as possible.

I found this to be one of the best introductory language-learning videos I've encountered...and I've watched scores of them, concerning many different languages and/or language-learning in general. Muchas gracias!
My girlfriend's parents are from Ecuador and speak almost zero English. She has to do all the translating when it comes to business related issues. I was fluent up until the age of about 6 or 7 then forgot about 90% of it. It's a long story. My mom still used phrases on occasion so some things were burned into my brain but I figured it would be nice to be able to understand her parents and also not always speak to her in English. Plus there are a lot of Spanish speakers from all over Latin America and Cuba where I work so that would be cool. Speaking to someone with multiple decades of vocabulary when I essentially have the vocabulary of a 8 or 9 year old is frustrating. I'll text simple sentences but often the responses will require looking up some words I don't know. Oddly, I tend to understand more what I read than what I hear. Spanish speakers may use +/-300 words but that's enough to limit a non-speaker from being able to communicate effectively. Not to mention the verb conjugations and proper use of pronouns. By communicating, I'm not referring to simple questions like asking for directions. I'm talking about being able to discuss day-to-day things. I often find myself saying sabes que no conozco todas las palabras que me dijiste no? We all have a good laugh about it. I'll sometimes watch soccer matches on the local Spanish channels. They speak about 100mph ans subtitles can't really keep up so I just listen. Some things I pick up most escape me. But it's entertaining because they get so excited as they call the game. Being able to recite what I just typed in Spanish would be nice 🤣🤣
Spanish language soccer announcers (especially the Argentinians) are the absolute best. Its a whole other vibe conpared to the rather staid (in comparison) English announcers.
Great tips! The one two that have been most beneficial in my journey in advancing from A1 to B2 in less than 12 months are: 1. Figuring out the best way for me to learn. I am great at math and decided to apply math reasoning, pattern recognition, and problem solving skills to Spanish. It was like unlocking a cheat code. And, likely the reason i followed through with learning, unlike the previous times i attempted. 2. Immersing myself as much as possible. I only watch TV in Spanish and am slowly weaning myself off the Spanish subtitles, I only listen to Latino music, I recently began reading books in Spanish, and I have gotten about 400 hours of one on one tutoring this year. I am looking forward to my Spanish journey in 2025 as I work to improve my usage of the subjuntive tenses. Gracias por los consejos!💜

Listening is THE key. Traveling, one must listen for numbers all the time. Exposure to Spanish, watch Spanish language TV. A German I know improved his English dramatically watching football in Germany on American military broadcasts.
Narrowing your goals is key. Cooking. Sports. Movies. Music. Learn those topics specifically not every word in the language, lingua---as she suggests. Have a passion or a short term goal.
It's true. I work in IT, so it's important for me to learn and know the vocabulary for objects related to this field. For example, the word computer has more than one Spanish translation. In Spain, the term "ordenador" is preferred. In various other countries, it's much more common to use "computadora." In my opinion, recognizing these differences (and that both terms exist, are equally valid, and refer to the same object) will help greatly with understanding and being understood by people from all over the world.
Thank you so much for this video. Right now, I am doing all 7 of the bad habits! I have been thinking about getting a conversation partner for a long time and your video gave me the extra boost and motivation to be proactive in finding a partner. 😊
Tengo que decir gracias por compartir :-). Son buenos consejos. Aprendí la regla sobre el infinitivo después de las preposiciones relativamente pronto en mi aprendizaje. Creo que fue una de las mejores cosas que me pasaron. Hay tantas situaciones en las que esa regla me ha salvado de la confusión.

I definitely find that grammar and expressions are the hardest parts for me. Many of the words can have so many meanings depending on context which can be very challenging. Ya is one that seems to have a ton of functions depending on its use. Alot of English expressions also don't often seem to translate well.
10:10 Is “Él llegará a las 9” also appropriate? Usually when i think of the future tense i try to steer away from using the crutch using present tense forms of “ir” + the infinitive verb to help me learn. Same goes for using “haber” + infinitive for past tense 😆

Estuve en México en enero y eso me ayudó mucho hablar sin miedo a equivocarme y si cometí un error tal vez me reían un poco a vezes pero siempre tambien me explican los errores.
Completamente de acuerdo :) No paralizarte por el miedo a hablar es muy importante. Y a los hablantes del español nos encanta que traten de hablar en nuestro idioma :)

😂 Spaniards do have a difficult accent! If you're up to it, you can start with simpler things, such as movies for kids! The old Disney movies are a great way to start!
¡Me encanta! Yo también hacía lo mismo con mis películas y mis libros favoritos 🖐🤓 La idea de usar "voice to text" es muy buena :) no se me había ocurrido
Interesting. I worked in a school where English and Spanish were taught. Most English learners didn’t struggle much with listening comprehension. It wasn’t perfect, but they generally understood most of what they heard. I noticed this across various English classes and conversation groups. As I mentioned in the video, unlike some of your students who haven't been exposed to much English, these students were highly engaged with English media-listening to music and watching movies or shows in English more than in Spanish. That might explain the difference 😊
thank God found your channel i thought I dont have a solid vocab background that is why i am struggling, started watching/listening peppa pig in spanish 😂
Para mi, la música hip-hop de latinoamericana ayuda porque las rimas tienen ritmos exagerados y palabras “de barrio”. It took me a lot of practice but I can sing the chorus of “esta vida me encanta” along with the song in real time. I can say “agarrando coto chido compa dele fuego al otro” lol 😂 It’s good practice for getting my facial muscles into the configuration conducive to Spanish pronunciation. I still cannot say the following C-Kan line, except very slowly: Normal, haciendo lo que disque no podía 24 días por hora, siete semanas al día.😮😅
Es lo peor que puedes hacer. Es como querer aprender inglés escuchado rap. Mejor ve Telemundo o Univision. Ahí puedes ver algunos talk shows que te ayudaran a familiarizarte con el español que se habla día a dia.
The only thing I respectfully disagree with is the 300 words. If you want to have conversations with Spanish friends, you're going to need way more than 300 words. I know because my Spanish friends send me short text messages or voice messages and I get stuck with unknown words in maybe half the messages. I'm pretty sure I know many more than 300 Spanish words, conjugations excluded.

i just started learning spanish i am watching your video '7 bad habits " when you use the word , llegando/arriving, i understand that, also, from what you just taught, i understand now not to use a gerunds for the present, but to use the infinitives. the problem arises when you translate it into english as to how we english speakers would say it. i think that is a big mistake. i believe it would be more helpful if you wrote it in english the same way it is written in spanish. example, " llega a las 9"/ he arrives at 9. llega is not llegando and should not be translated that way just because thats the way we speak. i think that it would be more to our advantage if we learn to think in spanish the same way it is written. i realize that isn't possible in all cases, but some explainations can be given to clear up some impossiblities if there are any. when you say/ or write "te puedo pedir un vaso de agua? i am no so much interested in the translation as i am in how you are thinking and saying it. example, " you, i can order a glass of water." because it is contained in questions marks i know that it is a question. OR "te estoy hablando a ti." "you, i am talking to you. OR "no le quites eso a ella." "no it take away that to/from her." don't take that away from her. OR when i ask the question " can i help you?" in english that would be " puedo ayudar te?' but in spanish you say " you i can to help?" all i need to know is that it is a question therefore i need to reverse i can to can i. then i have " you can i help?" translates to " can i help you?" i hope i haven't been too ambiguous or long winded. cheers bert
Strongly disagree with your part about vocab. Acquiring the largest vocab you can as soon as you can is incredibly useful to comprehension. It is possible to communicate even when you can only pick out one or two words. This basic functionality will break the ice on your language journey. The videos perspective is as if you are only ever speaking and not listening. With a limited vocab, you are unlikely to get through a single sentence as you will get hung up on the the most important thing, the subject of the sentence. The video is correct un that if you only ever study the spanish dictionary you will get nowhere. But at the very beginning, simple noun and verb translation is crucial.

After many years, I've noticed some gaps and am finally studying grammar. But I always advise people to do the other things as much as possible.
¡Qué chévere tu historia! 👏 Aprender en la vida diaria es lo mejor, y combinarlo con música, podcasts y pelis ahora es genial. Estudiar gramática para pulir detalles es clave. ¡Sigue así, lo estás haciendo increíble! 💪✨
I found this to be one of the best introductory language-learning videos I've encountered...and I've watched scores of them, concerning many different languages and/or language-learning in general. Muchas gracias!
That's so good to hear! ¡Gracias a ti!🥰
I'm learning French now but plan on learning Spanish later.
This is the most authentic and useful advice! Thank you!

I listen to soccer in spanish too but I usually just understand ''GOAAAAAL''
(My wife is from Ecuador too and I used to live there for 3 years)
Spanish language soccer announcers (especially the Argentinians) are the absolute best.
I love it! I also like to find patterns to make things easier 🤓¡Estás haciendo un muy buen trabajo con tu español!

Great video. Straight-forward and informative. Love this!
Thank you. You make a lot of sense.

Wow! Great video!
I began my Spanish journey 20+ years ago and started with a book…. Problem I found was most of that is Spanish from Spain and not Mexico that I was attempting to communicate with so a lot of words are different.
I have progressed to where I tell people not fluent but won’t be lonely, lost, hungry or thirsty….
I found being willing to laugh at myself and have them laugh at and with me was the binder that helped….. keep up the good work.
That's such a good attitude to have! Kudos to you 😊, but I'm really happy that you're seeing progress with your Spanish
@ I need to learn more Spanish for work.
As a Quality Engineer in the automotive industry we have a plant in Silao Guanajuato, the basics are god but the technical terms are not something you would practice with daily conversation.
If I could go down there and spend 6 months would help but that will not happen due to my responsibilities in the states. Any suggestions?
Tus videos son de oro. Gracias por compartir!
¡Gracias a ti! 🤓 Me alegra que te gusten los videos.
Estoy aprendiendo español por que mi trabajo, y quiero ayudar personas. This video has shown me that I have made a lot of these mistakes! I appreciate your advice. ¡Que tenga un buen día! ❤
We all do 🥲 but good that you caught them! ¡Que tengas una bonita semana!
Great content and I really like your teaching style.
Thank so much ☺I'm glad you found the content helpful.
You’ve made some very valid points and I think if I was being honest I’d sort of come to that conclusion and you have confirmed my thoughts thanks for that

Por example, write a 100 word essay or song en espanol!
Well said! 😊
This is very good advice!
I'm glad you found the advice helpful! 🥰Are you experiencing challenges in any of these areas?
Sì!
Strongly agree. I’ve been self learning Spanish for 14 months, and I’m only at about an A2 level 🥲
Thanks for the tips.
Mucha gracias
Thank you! Your video perfectly explains what I’ve been trying to tell people about language learning and refuse to listen.
😢 Well, at least you're on the right track, mi querido amigo😊
Thank you so much for this video. Right now, I am doing all 7 of the bad habits! I have been thinking about getting a conversation partner for a long time and your video gave me the extra boost and motivation to be proactive in finding a partner. 😊
I'm happy that this helped! Don't worry, we all have made these mistakes 😊Yes, find one! It's really going to help!
Tengo que decir gracias por compartir :-). Son buenos consejos. Aprendí la regla sobre el infinitivo después de las preposiciones relativamente pronto en mi aprendizaje. Creo que fue una de las mejores cosas que me pasaron. Hay tantas situaciones en las que esa regla me ha salvado de la confusión.
¡Gracias a ti! 🤓 ¡Qué bueno que aprendiste esa regla pronto! Muchos estudiantes tienen problemas con ese tema 😬y es una regla relativamente sencilla que los ayuda a sonar más naturales
Mucho Gracias. Your advice was on point and very much needed.
That's so good to hear! ¡Gracias a ti! 😊
Gracias! ❤
Saved to my favorites !!!!
I definitely find that grammar and expressions are the hardest parts for me. Many of the words can have so many meanings depending on context which can be very challenging.
Ya is one that seems to have a ton of functions depending on its use.
Alot of English expressions also don't often seem to translate well.
Mil gracias por subir el vídeo. Me parece muy útil! Recientemente no hablo mucho en voz alta.. voy a hacerlo a partir de hoy.
Wonderful advice
¡Gracias! 🤓
Really😊 good at teaching
I found your Channel today and I regret not finding it sooner.
hola señora! yo agradezco tu video y definitivamente voy a incorporar estas reglas en mi rutina de español! pero tengo una pregunta para aprender un poco más. por qué usaste el subjuntivo en el minuto 7:34? porque fue una situacion hipotético y una recommendación? entiendo la mayoria de las reglas de grammatico en español, pero el subjuntivo es uno de las reglas que me cuesta. ahora estoy tratando de repasarlo otra vez porque sé que me haría sonar más natural en la idioma. gracias señora!
First time at your channel -= subbed (you gave me no choice).
Oh, wow! ¡Muchas gracias! 🥰
Tha k you very much for the lesson
You're Awesome. Thank you so much for such great tips. I subscribed to your channel.
Mil Gracias. Ya me da cuenta de que me pusiera demás atención al vocabulario. Según Duolingo yo sé 5 mil palabras pero todavía me quedo atascado cada vez trato de hablar de algo.
¡Gracias a ti! 🤓Hablar siempre es de lo más difícil 😬pero si sigues los tips del video, te vas a sentir más cómodo
Lo correcto es: Me di cuenta que debo poner mas atencion al vocabulario. Saludos. Animo, tu puedes.

Do you have a list of the 300 words?
Escucho música Christiana de Mexico (Majo y Dan), también canciones de la República Dominicana (como Juan Louis Guerra, “Ojalá que llueva el café”)
¡Me encanta esa canción! 🤩
Gracias
Ojala que llueva café en el campo, hermosa cancion. Saludos desde México y animo. I listen Christian music in English like Hillsong worship.

Is “Él llegará a las 9” also appropriate? Usually when i think of the future tense i try to steer away from using the crutch using present tense forms of “ir” + the infinitive verb to help me learn. Same goes for using “haber” + infinitive for past tense 😆
It is correct 😊 It's just that in real life, native speakers turn a lot to "ir + infinitive" because of its simplicity
For learning styles what if I wanted to understand a song in Spanish and translate it what skills would I need?
I know alot of vocabulary but i have trouble stringing it together
This is insanely helpful
I'm so happy to read this 🥰
Great advice a personal algorithm 🎉
En las novelas, te creo a excepción de mi abuelita, ella si hablaba siempre como en las novelas jajajaja. Buen video. 🙌🏻
Jajaja ¿en serio? Necesito conocer más hablantes sofisticados como tu abuelita, ¡qué bella!
Outstanding. Do you give class on line
How do I find the link for the learning package. Thank you😊
La lección era muy importante en mí habilidad hablar español.Yo practico mi español en toda partes.Por ejemplo voy a el banco hacer transacciones,de compras en la mall o pedir comida en restaurante 😊
It’s voy al banco
I love that you try to practice your Spanish as much as you can 🙂

Hey,I tried to improve my Spanish watching movies with subtitles, but spaniadrs speak so fast its hard to keep track of and understand.
😂 Spaniards do have a difficult accent! If you're up to it, you can start with simpler things, such as movies for kids! The old Disney movies are a great way to start!
Also, watch Latin American movies, or better yet, telenovelas (soap operas).
@@kellylogan4650 As a kid I used to watch Latin American TV shows, that's why back then I knew spanish, but sadly over the years I forgot.
Omg this is very helpful!!❤❤❤
I'm so glad to hear that!
Is reggaeton okay for learning Spanish? 😅
😂😂
So what are the words that you suggest learning for daily use?
Eso depende de tu entorno, si sueles ir a un restaurante practica como pedir y te aseguro que te vamos a entender, palabras faciles y no tan formales que siempre uses. Saludos desde México.
@@draycott-music8764 Gracias por tomarte el tiempo de escribir y por todas tus sugerencias.
Where is the parts of speech link?
Este lección estaba bien hecho. Voy a subscribir a tu chanel. Tengo que irme estoy entre el espada y la pared.
Dos cosas que me gustan hacer para mejorar mi español hablado serían usar la funcionalidad “Voice-To-Text” de mi celular para decir lo que quiero decir, en vez de escribirlo.
otra cosa sería traducir mis frases favoritas de películas, por ejemplo
“me habría salido con la mía, si no fuera por estos chicos entrometidos” ~ Scooby-Doo
“I would have gotten away with it if it weren’t for you meddling kids” 😅
también para practicar más, las traduzco a la segunda y tercera persona
“ustedes se habrían salido con la suya, si no fuera por estos chicos entrometidos”
tal vez pueda ayudar a alguien 🤷
¡Me encanta! Yo también hacía lo mismo con mis películas y mis libros favoritos 🖐🤓 La idea de usar "voice to text" es muy buena :) no se me había ocurrido
como de dice "im excited to learn Spanish with you"?
Puedes decir "estoy emocionada por aprender español contigo" 🤓¡Yo también estoy emocionada!
Hm. I teach English, and my students struggle with listening a LOT. Some have even lived in the US for many years without hearing much English at all.
That’s what I’m trying to do too, what service are you watching the show on?

Para mi, la música hip-hop de latinoamericana ayuda porque las rimas tienen ritmos exagerados y palabras “de barrio”. It took me a lot of practice but I can sing the chorus of “esta vida me encanta” along with the song in real time. I can say “agarrando coto chido compa dele fuego al otro” lol 😂
It’s good practice for getting my facial muscles into the configuration conducive to Spanish pronunciation. I still cannot say the following C-Kan line, except very slowly:
Normal, haciendo lo que disque no podía
24 días por hora, siete semanas al día.😮😅
Es lo peor que puedes hacer. Es como querer aprender inglés escuchado rap. Mejor ve Telemundo o Univision. Ahí puedes ver algunos talk shows que te ayudaran a familiarizarte con el español que se habla día a dia.
Es la verda 😢
