    What other matches should I break down?

      You should break down Gable Stevenson takedowns, then apply them to BJJ

    It’s funny how there was a,ways the bjj vs wrestling debate.. but bjj has definitely started forming more into wrestling then it used to be. Even tho it’s always been wrestling in a way it’s very wrestling heavy these days. And I love it

    I like it. Hopefully in the next lets say 5 years we're gonna see real high level wrestling. This is high level grappling, but in terms of raw technical wrestling skill, there's other guys in the jj artform that are better and more explosive with their wrestling.

    What is “scrimmage wrestling”?

    • @kallepikku4991

      Probably nothing

      Put simply, scrimmage wrestling is wrestling under the ADCC ruleset, where points aren't awarded easily, e.g. where the top guy has to establish control for a whopping 3 seconds before getting his 2 points. As you can see, Barbosa's pure wrestling skill didn't help much against Ryan's playing the ruleset and just standing back up after each gas-draining takedown. Scrimmage wrestling, as I understand the term when employed by jiu-jitsu people, is a philosophy of wrestling focused on saving energy (do judo rather than shooting for the legs), hunting for the back (duck-under / throw-by), avoiding submissions (again, avoid shooting), and preventing your back from being taken (e.g. the wizzer uchi mata, etc).

    Honestly, that was no better than high school wrestling. The narrator is really over-selling their skills, riding on their jj fame.
    Just because they're good boxers doesn't make them good kick-boxers.

    He's wrestling against another BJJ guy, so it looks better than it actually is. Nicky Rod's wrestling is actual wrestling.

    • @vodginator
      @vodginator ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s nonsense. First, they are not wrestling. The rules and objectives are different because it’s a different sport. Second, NR wrestling is basically sitting down to explode for a messy scramble to double/body lock/wtf. Ugly to look at and works only as long as the engine is there. No distance management whatsoever. Watch him try standing up with Owen Livesey. It’s pathetic, like a grown up, toying with a toddler.

    I forgot how close this match was. Barbosa got some good takedown attempts and could have won if Gordon wasn't so good at standing up

    anyone who uses the most half assed wrestling technique in jiu jitsu becomes a master, because jiu jitsu guys just have too much of a ego to learn grappling that has existed and been advanced carefully by humanity over thousands of years, they insist on coming up with everything from scratch or it has to be some gracie guard bullshit from the 80's

  • @IpponQing

    You said someone who is good at Uchi Mata then put a video of Craig Jones LOL. You were better off putting a video of Fabricio Andrey. Uchi Mata has nothing to do with the knee…

    • @AmynBennamane
      @AmynBennamane 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Craig's advice actually makes sense. You're either tripping the far knee (arai goshi), or the nearside knee. If you're in the middle, the guy is going to stay balanced on your leg.
      Remember, this is no-gi, it can get very slippery and often don't have the opponent's opposite triceps. That's why they put you put one hand on the floor.

    it gets the job done but coming from wrestling this is horrible lol

    • @Petepato3
      @Petepato3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      It may be, but it gets the job done by not spending too much energy (not shooting, keeping straight standing posture...) and focusing on counter wrestling (kimura, guillotine)

      Wrestling for submission grappling is very different than "traditional" wrestling (amateur/collegiate/Olympic). The different duration, ruleset and overall objective change the posture/stance, impacts which takedowns are better, requires adjustments for follow-ups, etc. It may not look like good "traditional wrestling", but it's not trying to
