I think one of the best attributes of Gordon is the respect he shows his opponents on the mat. You never see him holding a submission for any longer than he needs to; once he feels the tap, he releases all the tension immediately.
Very true. He can be a cocky fuck outside the mat but he’s as class as it gets on the mat
I trained with Gabriel Gonzaga and he mentioned that
respecting the tap is like the most basic element of being a decent jiu jitsu practitioner

@@barancalisci372 From what I know, you choose to go either the armbar route or the backtake. So they start there and then continue until a submission or until the opponent escapes
I just love the fact he never cranks or tries to hurt his opponent. Especially on the leg locks

Yeah his locks are smooth. If you watch him closely it's like he's just gently but firmly setting it in, no cranking with with excessive force.

Honestly Gordon Ryan is amazing for the weight class, he’s inspiring. When I do what he does sometimes it’s so cool, like freeing your leg with another leg.
Barnett is huge and he's a badass grappler too that was a crazy win.
One of my fav Gordon matches for exactly both of those reasons.

Best No Gi BJJ grappler yet... I like the fact is going to work on his Gi BJJ skillset as well, and he has worked on freestyle/folk style wrestling. Hats off. I think Danaher has him working some judo as well, not sure...thought I read that somewhere.

He did 100 situps, 100 pushups, and 100 squats followed by a 6.2-mile run every day untill his hair turned white.
Gordon's finishes seemed more exciting when he was "skinny Gordon." When he gained mass he became an unstoppable smashing machine but less fun to watch. I'd say it was a worthy tradeoff for him though. :)
