The whole series is her journey to understand she is a person worthy to live and to understand human emotion she was neglected to experience. I'll guarantee you'll be heartbroken more than once, but with lots of things thrown at you to fill those broken gaps so you'll still be left feeling fullfilled at the end of this. Violet Evergarden is one of my favorite anime’s ever. Violet an amazing main character. Her journey is so raw, real, emotional, and beautiful. The studio that did this anime, Kyoto Animations is known for producing some of the highest quality anime. They’ve done things like K-On!, A Silent Voice, Sound! Euphonium, and Clannad. In 2019, an arson fire at Kyoto Animation's first studio in Fushimi killed 36 people. It was one of the worst mass murders in Japanese history, an undeniable tragedy. Some of the artists and directors who worked on Violet Evergarden lost their lives in that fire.
This is how anime can look, sound and feel if people actually care for what they do. Kyoto Animation outdid themselves with this show, if they didn't it wouldn't hit you half as hard as it does into the feels. The attention to detail, the soundtracks, the expressions, fluidity... could very well be considered at a level you would expect from high budget movies, not a seasonal show. Make sure you have your tissues and drinks ready, gotta stay hydrated and prepped for any eventualities ;)
Its believed by a lot of people in the fandom that Violet has autism, i caught it too and personally it was one of my favorite aspects of the series. I really hope you continue this series man, its a beautiful journey and seeing her story and development makes me tear up every single time.

You Will Cry the Anime, I've recommended this anime to a number of people that don't watch anime and they refuse because "its cartoons". If you are going to watch this on the channel I'd say one a week or your heart wont take it.

Tbh everything is great, but I did read the original novels and I have to say the music and presentation are really adding to how emotional you get with it.
So many people miss it, but the bit with her biting the 'puppy's' ear is such a painful scene to see, especially when she says that her superiors used to see her as a dog. It's commonly done in training of a pup to either bite the ear of the dog while restraining it or to hold it down by the neck and look it in the eye to assert dominance, a practice which has unfortunately been found to run parallel to the practices of many who abuse and manipulate children when it comes to these diplays of power... In other words, her handlers before Gilbert took a war orphan and forged her into a living weapon using training methods we often debate the ethics of for ANIMALS, let alone damaged and traumatized children....
For better or worse, that’s not the case here with Violet. She was a killing machine before they found her. Dietfried captured her and immediately gave her to his brother, there was no “trainer” or “handler” before Gilbert. As for putting the toy in her mouth, that’s just something certain people do, referred to as mouthing. The whole dog thing is actually pretty understandable - people love dogs, so why would she think being compared is an insult?

Yeah I completely agree. I also dont think this anime is like sad, sad. I think I actually felt more happiness watching this and the movies.
