Rescue videos take a while to put together, but they are pretty satisfying when I can finally bring a Kerbal home. That being said, how else should I strand Kerbals???
@@ReidCaptain could you launch a kerbal from kerbin orbit and land him on a planet somehow? Basically plan an orbit and landing without fuel after the launch from orbit.
Modred waited over 700 years for someone to arrive only to find out that a glorified command pod running solely on mono-propellant was his ticket back home. Then he waited almost 200 years more for Kerbal Space Center's patented mono-propellant rocket to make it back with him onboard. Many tears were shed when he returned home to his family. Thanks Reid! I look forward to more epic adventures!
As an idea for stranding another Kerbal in space, I suggest sending a giant SUBSCRIBE sign into it and putting it into orbit as a "fuel station" or something of the like at 300k subs. Thank you for continuing to make cool content. I've needed it at my lowest moments. Pls continue what you do!
Dres with RCS only is pretty impressive BUT I think your approach could've be more efficient, especially your gravity assists. When going to the outer solar system, Duna is a terrible choice for your first gravity assist, as its mass is relatively low and you will be encountering it at near your solar apoapsis. What energy you do get is essentially wasted on raising your periapsis which doesn't help you get out to Dres. Doing so many duna gravity assists to get to Dres is massively overcomplicated and just takes an unnecessarily long time. The preferable option would be to do your first assist off eve. It's cheaper to reach from kerbin, more massive and your encounter will be near your periapsis, allowing all the energy you gain to go towards raising your apoapsis towarda Dres' orbit. Any energy you lose by escaping retrograde to kerbin's orbit is more than made up for. One good eve assist might be enough, but if not you can usually get a kerbin assist from there to get you the rest of the way.
Some tips for this game: During docking, if possible, turn on SAS on both spacecraft so they hold their orientation. this makes it significantly easier to dock. Also, try to launch at the appropriate launch windows for planets to save fuel and time. Hope this helps :)
a small point i think it worth mentioning, for the benefit of the viewers: you need to have at least one Ore Storage Tank for the Miner device to work AT ALL! i actually forgot that on a recent mission to Eve's moon. fortunately, i had BARELY enough fuel to get back to Kerbin anyway. i had to use the "pass through the outer atmosphere many times" tactic to actually land!
Just one more fuel tank and we'll escape bro. I swear bro we just need one more fuel tank, just a little more fuel bro. This next fuel tank will be enough bro and then we'll escape. Just a little more fuel bro
I dunno. I felt this was a "monopropellant only" type of challenge, and not a "don't use real thrusters" challenge. I felt cheated he grabbed the Vernors and swapped tanks instead of the Puff. Still, a wonderfully painful watch as always. Keep it up, Reid
@@SiberCatLP I agree. Using the Vernor really isn't that much different than using any other LF/O Rocket Engine. I was really interested to see what it would take to make the monoprop work. It was definitely possible.
I wonder if you could make a spaceplane using monopropellant RCS. As I understand it, you could save on mass, engines, & lag by not needing to fight gravity as much!
I think it would be interesting to see you do like... a lowest number of parts challenge to rescue the next Kerbal, no Kraken drives allowed obviously.
As an RSS mod player with over 1500h, stock KSP looks so easy and empty. I was like... "You need like 9500m/s Delta V for orbit, how are you gonna do this", and then I realised, RSS is not a game, it's a mod 😂 Anywho, great vid to watch
Get to the moon with Kerbals only. No parts. Can it be done? Can you make a kerbal ladder to the mun? If you can't do it without parts, then try to do it without ejecting any propellant. First thing that comes to mind is propellers and trebuchets... really big ones.
Honestly don't know much about kerbal so I don't know if this suggestion is too easy or utterly impossible, but maybe try saving one of the stranded Kerbals without another Kerbal going onto the plantet/entering its atmosphere
Ion mission next? Surely that wouldn't be painful and slow at alllllllll (Dear god I wish you luck in leaving atmo) That or a Rapier mission would be interesting

What if we strand a kerbal on kerbin
@@MagikalKrabicalu might be onto something
try land somewhere quite far off while only being allowed to burn your engine in kerbin's sphere of influence
launch a kerbal into a low Kerbolar orbit >:)

When 900 years old, you reach, look this good, you will not.
So Modred got a 1 day break before sending him on a 3,526 year long journey to save a different stranded kerbal.

that reminds me of a really silly old video called "Hype Rocket"!
867 kerbin years in the making!

Reid Captain, I think it would be fun if you did a collab video or two with Matt Lowne for a rescue video.
Oh nice. I remember someone built a rocket from only decouplers and there was one with the big rcs thrusters only too.
Probably this guy aswell
Here's a challenge: Rescue a kerbil in a reasonable amount of time (80 years). Basically you gotta build the fastest rocket you can

This comment confuses me. What do you mean when you say:
“Everyone knows that Isn’t real!”
Here’s you getting to dres with just rcs whereas I can’t even get a rocket to the mun and back
Great, now go faster than lightspeed!
I'm not even convinced that you can get to orbit with RCS. Once in space it's just a matter of patience.
technically those are no longer RCS thrusters.

Maybe try making an accurate, in form, function and scale, Thunderbird 3? It would certainly be fitting for a rescue mission!

I'm guessing the ship was still going straight even though it's wonky cause RCS will try to adjust thrust levels to stay oriented

great video, though you did make it notably more complicated than necessary by launching from a non-equatorial pad
Eh doesn't make too much of a difference, I would've needed the refuel anyway

Try to rescue another kerbal only using the fuel vents.
