  • 40 years I visited New Orleans, Louisiana to attended Mardi Gras, but I wasn't able to visit any of the cemeteries in the city.
    So, I'm back in 2022, to take a tour of the famous St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 and to finally visit the gravesite of the legendary Marie Laveau, aka the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans.
    I also wanted to see the Pyramid mausoleum reported to be owned by actor Nicholas Cage. The classic 1969 film EASY RIDER was also filmed in this cemetery, so I wanted to see this memorable filming location too.
    Thanks for joining me today on another nostalgic road trip to the past and for sharing the memories!

    I have been there, loved it.. City of the Dead. I love going to cemeteries ever since I was a child. The oldest one I went to was a 1600 hundred one that all that was there died of yellow fever and it was in Arkansas.... Oh another thing is when you see the tomb that has several names on it, to make room for another person they take the last one that died put them in like a bag that zips up and they stack them, after so many years the body like dries up so its easier to do that. That why you will see so many in one small tomb..

  • @tommycoe1043

    My wife and I went to New Orleans in 2008 as part of our vacation trip. At that time, the Cemetery was open to the public, even though we were warned by a police office who stopped as we were parking, warned us it was unsafe to visit unless you were in a tour.
    As we walked around a corner, and elderly couple was standing by a tomb, and the gentleman was tapping on the lower tomb, telling us it was the grave of Marie Laveau. We had not seen anyone else inside the Cemetery until then, and we had spent at least thirty minutes inside at the time. We were standing there looking at the tomb, and I started to ask the couple a question, but they were nowhere to be seen. I looked down every row, but it was if they disappeared into thin air! My wife and I still discuss if we had came upon spirits from the graves!
    One other thing, we parked on the street right in front of the gate, and we're the only vehicle parked on the area in front of the Cemetery.
    Altogether, we spent about two hours exploring and taking pictures. We did not come across anyone else the entire time we were there.

    • @TheGraveyardChannel
      @TheGraveyardChannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, how times of changed. You were lucky to go there when you did. Now it’s impossible to find a parking spot anywhere on the street surrounding the cemetery on either side. It’s probably a lot safer now though with the security guards and tours. Thanks for sharing your experience with us Tommy! 😊👍
