Hi everybody! I'm really trying to grow this channel, and will be increasing my content production in the near future. I could really use your help in letting the TH-cam algorithm know my videos are good, by watching, liking, commenting, and sharing my vids. Your support is much appreciated!
I have several cast coins for sale on my etsy store: www.etsy.com/shop/MadeByFarmCraft101?ref=seller-platform-mcnav.
Thoughts and suggestions always appreciated! Have a great weekend!

      Nice coin.
Good luck with growing the channel. I did share your cannon build on Facebook a while back, but a good idea might be to work on a joint project with another channel several times because you tend to pick up the other viewers too. For example, Joerg from the Slingshot channel worked together with Mike from Explosive Science and Mike multiplied his viewers by a factor greater than 10 in roughly 4 weeks of joint projects at one each week.

This process obviously it lends itself to preparing several molds at a time. Even if you aren't going to fire them all at once if every time you did a dip and dry cycle you were dipping five molds and setting them you would get more efficiency.

I came back a few weeks after seeing this video to tell you a little piece of info I found that may or may not help your casting small intricate objects.
I recently was able to be a fly on the wall at a goldsmith's workshop.
He makes rings and intricate gold and silver castings. He uses the lost wax method plus the vacumn method of removing air bubbles from the plaster.
Here is where he then diverges. He uses what is called centrifugal casting. Simply stated, roughly a 24 inch arm having a crucible just past center on one side of center with the arm having on the other far end a jig for holding the plaster mold is utilized. The center of the arm is attached two what looks like a garden tractor blade spindle that has a strong spring within it.
When he is ready he winds the arm so that the spring is wound tight and he then places his plaster mold HOT out of the oven into the centrifugal device. He places small chunks of silver or gold with flux into the crucible. He heats with a torch the material in the crucible until it runs like water at which point he releases a catch that causes, by spring power, a rapid spining of the arm causing the molten metal to quickly flow via a connection from the crucible into the mold.
The entire spin lasts perhaps 40 seconds but the claim is that the molten metal flows into place in milliseconds and the rest is just to keep it in place until it is sure to be solidified.
The process is rather neat and the detail is amazing. I am sure if you Google the method you have all the right stuff to make the centrifugal casting machine.
    Good luck.

Noice! I see your onion layer dipping helped with bubbles and the larger taller spru channel helped fill in more of the lettering, though it ended up being still not quite enough pressure, If you want to try this again, try attaching the main spru channel on the top, see if that gives you enough pressure to fill in the rest of the letters.

  • @robsterturbo

Hi great video. I am attempting something similar if a little bigger and more complex in shape. I was wondering what you were using to glue the vents to the model - a glue gun? it looks like this burns out ok? I ask because I was worried about introducing other materials into the 'wax' model. I'm actually using a product called 'polycast' in my printer to create the model. It prints really well though I haven't had a chance yet to burn it out, what do you use? Polycast actually glues together pretty well using isopropanol but a glue gun would be much better for gap filling and quicker. Last thing, I'm guessing the ceramic shell is not porous therefore using a vacuum would not be an option after pouring? Thanks :)
