Murdeshwar is a town in Bhatkal Taluk of Uttara Kannada district in the state of Karnataka, India. The town is located 13 km from the taluk headquarters of Bhatkal. It is famous for the world's second tallest Shiva statue, the town lies on the coast of the Arabian Sea and is also famous for the Murudeshwara Temple.

In 2020 I visited Murudheshwar. Stayed a night at RNS hotel. Excellent location. Enjoyed the trip. Went to the top of the marvelous temple tower and wondered the panaromic view.

In the year 2012, we went kokarna for 11 days Rudhra Parayanam. That time we have arranged one Van to visit this place and Mugambigai Mandir also.

The story of this temple starts from gokarna.The place is where ravanan handed over the athmalingam to lord vinayagar while he was returning to his palace from himalayas. Legend goes as the devas were worried upon knowing that ravanan has got the athmalingam from Lord shiva and they requested lord vinayagar to help them as he may gain more power. Lord vinayagar promised to solve the issue. While all were wondering what to do, ravanan landed at gokarna to do santhyavanthanam as its sunset time. To make use the opportunity vinayagar went near him as a small young boy pretending to be a casual by goer. On seeing the boy, ravanan requested the boy to hold the athmalingam in his hands till he returned back after finishing the santhyapujai,as placing it down is not possible as it will get installed in the place where it's placed and the boy told him that its too heavy for him to hold and so he has return upon his call otherwise he will place it down, but tricked ravanan by pretending to call him thrice and placed the lingam here. Ravanan ran back after his pujai to see the athmalingam placed down and tried to pull out but went vain and exclaimed hay maha bala. ,meaning of Lord you are so strong that I cannot pull out. And thus the temple at gokarna. The main deity is the athmalingam of Lord shiva worshipped as mahabaleswarar.ravanan pulled the lingam and the lingam got broken into 4 more pieces and fell at karwar,dhandeswar,murtheswar,and one more place.visiting all these 5 temples on same day brings moksham to oneself.

I had been there in april. It was very sunny. I too had been to the top of the temple tower. The view was awesome. And beach activities were superb. There was balloon roller, speed boating etc.

Bro pls do visit Gokarna. Murudeshwara I dont think it has link with Ramayana but Gokarna temple has link with Ramayana. Gokarna is only 77km away from Murudeshwara. There u can see Aatma Linga given to Lanka king Ravana to attain immortality. Even there is a Ganesha temple. That temple has a very big history. That Ganesha is so cute. Pls don't miss it.
